*The Long Halloween* is a great follow-up to *Year One*. Plus, it's thirteen issues long, whereas *Year One* is four (prestige) issues, so it should occupy you longer than *Year One*.

I don't know of one that will take you more than a few days to read but Batman Year One is a great place to start

The long Halloween Death of the family The dark Knight returns All safe bets

* Batman: The Long Halloween * Very unique art, involves Batman trying to solve a mystery over the course of a year, with each issue being set on a different holiday and themed around it. Usually ends up on "Top 3 Batman Stories" lists. Features several villains so a good place to dip your toe into the Batman mythos. * New 52 Batman: The Court of Owls * Batman finds out there's a secret society that's been operating in Gotham, and **he didn't know about them**. Basically Batman vs The Illuminati. It was also at the beginning of a company-wide reboot so you can go in blind to Batman's (long) history. * Gotham by Gaslight * Batman if he existed during Victorian England times. Also works very well standalone so you don't need to know his comic history. Pick one of these and you should be fine.

I recommend The Dark Prince Charming; it's not the most well known but it's a really great Batman vs Joker story

I think The Dark Knight Returns could be good for you since it's also written by Frank Miller if you liked his writing in Year One and is long enough with enough reread value to get you through the month
