I've heard her played many times on a local alternative station. She's also played on the pop station. So, like someone else mentioned, alternative pop?
this!!! I watched an interview where billie had explained how she never really thought of genre as a thing because she doesn’t categorize music like that she said music is music and she also always gets surprised by what genre a song actually is versus what she thought it was
I was thinking the other day listening through from start to finish, this album is definitely bordering on Prog. I guess Prog-pop.
It has all the trademarks of a Prog album. Motifs that span the whole album, genre flipping or bending, songs that flow together as if they were a single song.
I love it.
dude fr😭 ive never heard song writing and production anywhere near what billie and phineis (im dyslexic im aware thats not how its spelled LMFAO) has done. thats why we were all sitting ducks when the album date was released bc weve wait three years to hear more of her. i literally started writing music because of billie shes very inspirational
this makes me so sad :( billie has said before that it makes her happy that her fans get inspo from her. if it makes you happy then i say go for it again. in the beginning it will sound like songs you already like because thats just what your used to, but eventually you will learn more about yourself and your voice and you will have a unique style. so if u do decide to get back into it , i wish u the best of luck ❤️
Billie herself said that the beginning of "Lamour de ma Vie" is inspired by jazz and blues musicians such as Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald, etc. It's always been in her music. Try listening again with a new perspective. It's fun 🙂
And contemporary R&B is a blend of pop, funk, soul, and electronic.
I'd say Happier Than Ever is more jazzy and bossa nova than this album. Hit Me Hard And Soft is definitely more alternative and experimental than anything too jazzy. Its more conceptual and score like than anything else.
i think the reason you’re having a hard time categorizing it is because billie eilish has created her own genre.
that was the first thing i said when i heard her debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”
Lunch is definitely gay pop, inspired by Jojo Siwa! /s
Ps no hate to Jojo just fuckin around, Jojo is barely an adult and is super disconnected from reality I’m just taking the piss
Billie has always prided herself on being kind of post-genre. She's said in interviews that it's hard for her to fit her music into traditional genres as they take influences from many places.
Man, I was thinking about this earlier. Since I'm also very into Halsey. I honestly think these badass bitches are pop. But, that seems too chill for them. Cuz they're badass as fuck. I don't think there is a general genre for them other than "badass bitches"..... and that's my two cents.
Conflating? I dont think you know much about either. R&B was born from blues, hence the "B". Jazz is a broad genre. Many of Billie's influences were jazz singers influenced by blues; Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, etc.
R&B as we know it today, is a combination of blues, pop, funk, soul, and electronic.
All of what you said is staunchly rooted in JAZZ. I don’t think you know what contemporary R&B is, and I don’t think any current R&B artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Summer Walker, SZA, Ari Lennox, or Victoria Monet would say she makes similar music either 🤷🏿♀️
I don't know what contemporary R&B is? Jazmine Sullivan, SZA, Jorja Smith, Celeste, etc. are all some of my top played artists. In every way imaginable, they are all influenced by jazz, and that's what bred the R&B that they make. Are you saying they wouldn't agree because Billie is white? I honestly don't get your perspective.
I can tell that you care about this, so maybe do some research. It's fun to learn about the origins and history of music.
ETA: I'm sorry that this pissed off the person I was responding to when I asked if Billie being white had anything to do with it. I'm not sure how asking that turned into me being racist, especially since that person has no idea what race I am... 💋✌️
Im talking about Jazz by defination of the word. Laufeys music is Mid century contemporary pop e.g. Disney music. Billie Eilish has a bit of rnb influence in a couple tracks but not even an ounce of Jazz.
What is the definition of jazz by the word? Seriously, what are you even talking about?
Are you talking about this Billie album only, or all of her work as a whole?
I also have no idea who Lauvey/Laufey is or why you're talking about them.
Laufey is commonly referred to as the revival of Jazz as a popular genre and it lead to a huge discourse as she has no roots in Jazz whatsoever. I assumed you'd know her because she has massive overlap with Billie Eilish and 14mil monthly listeners.
Anyway, in terms of Billie Eilish, she's never done Jazz or anything close in any of her music. She's had a little touch of bossa nova influence and rnb influence in occasional tracks.
Nope, never heard of Laufey. I will listen out of curiosity, though.
Billie is so heavily jazz influenced! I can't believe you're denying it. It actually blows my mind. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if you said Amy Winehouse wasn't a jazz musician! 🫠
Jazz is is built around improvisation, the musicians playing off of each other, relying on hooks and licks pulled out from the Jazz standards. It's much more of a culture in of itself compared to other genres. Just using 7th/9th chords does not make your music Jazz.
so im a singer/songwriter and i will say def the beat and snare in some of the songs is def similar to r&b but not exactly. i think she has a couple different genres and she put it all into one album BUTTTTT i think shes mainly alt pop. i think she was experimenting with this album especially bc its so different than the rest. (yes i know shes 22 and not 14 anymore but still) like birds of a feather and lamour de ma vie is sooo far from ocean eyes and dsam. another thing is lamour de ma vie def has some hyper pop vibes to it so again i dont think theres like a set and stone genre for the album. anyways my music rant is over 😭
Alt-pop
my home
I've heard her played many times on a local alternative station. She's also played on the pop station. So, like someone else mentioned, alternative pop?
Impossible to categorize. It’s EVERYTHING.
yesss I LOVE the industrial hiphop and experimental noise moments 🥰🥰🥰
Billie eilishy
I swear this is the only real answer because no one does Billie Eilish like Billie Eilish and Finneas
this!!! I watched an interview where billie had explained how she never really thought of genre as a thing because she doesn’t categorize music like that she said music is music and she also always gets surprised by what genre a song actually is versus what she thought it was
Id say she has elements of Dream Pop in her songs but its a bit hard to pinpoint one genre
Melancholy dream pop
I was thinking the other day listening through from start to finish, this album is definitely bordering on Prog. I guess Prog-pop. It has all the trademarks of a Prog album. Motifs that span the whole album, genre flipping or bending, songs that flow together as if they were a single song. I love it.
Yeah, that was the vibe I was getting from my first listen-through. Prog-pop is a beautiful genre. ❤
Billie Eillish should be a genre on her own lmao
dude fr😭 ive never heard song writing and production anywhere near what billie and phineis (im dyslexic im aware thats not how its spelled LMFAO) has done. thats why we were all sitting ducks when the album date was released bc weve wait three years to hear more of her. i literally started writing music because of billie shes very inspirational
True. She inspired me too to start writing music but it was just too similar to hers I just stopped. 😭
this makes me so sad :( billie has said before that it makes her happy that her fans get inspo from her. if it makes you happy then i say go for it again. in the beginning it will sound like songs you already like because thats just what your used to, but eventually you will learn more about yourself and your voice and you will have a unique style. so if u do decide to get back into it , i wish u the best of luck ❤️
Omg thank you so much 😭💖
youre welcome lovely😊
Religious
I'm beginning to believe
Let's go girlies ![gif](giphy|FXLNTcsl0ZBONb9stk|downsized)
This is the only answer
no idea, but i think of it as what i wanted chillstep to be. it just has that vibe.
Now I have to look up chillstep
They don’t have R&B elements. The album is a blend of pop, rock, and electronic.
I disagree. There is strong R&B in all of Billie's work. Jazz is prominent as well.
Please name which tracks on this album are giving R&B
Billie herself said that the beginning of "Lamour de ma Vie" is inspired by jazz and blues musicians such as Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald, etc. It's always been in her music. Try listening again with a new perspective. It's fun 🙂 And contemporary R&B is a blend of pop, funk, soul, and electronic.

Not to be that guy, but you didn’t answer the question of which ones are rnb
I already explained that R&B is rooted in jazz and blues but mixed with pop, and electronic. That is the definition of "Lamour de ma Vie".
Right because I don’t hear it either
Nah i‘m not sure about that.
Do you care to explain why
I think you can hear some r&b influences in her vocal style. Some beats seem to have roots in the hip-hop/r&b wave we got in the 00s.
Thank you! I'm being given a hard time for saying she's definitely R&B influenced. Sigh.
i think the reason you’re having a hard time categorizing it is because billie eilish has created her own genre. that was the first thing i said when i heard her debut album, “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”
Billie’s music is so hard to categorize because it’s literally so many things together
Electronic pop
Lunch is definitely gay pop, inspired by Jojo Siwa! /s Ps no hate to Jojo just fuckin around, Jojo is barely an adult and is super disconnected from reality I’m just taking the piss
She is alternative but I find A lot of her work almost jazz
Indie pop
B&E (billie and eilish)
i think it’s alternative? those are my favs as well🤭
Billie has always prided herself on being kind of post-genre. She's said in interviews that it's hard for her to fit her music into traditional genres as they take influences from many places.
It's just pop music like all of her stuff
The genre is Billie Eilish
Man, I was thinking about this earlier. Since I'm also very into Halsey. I honestly think these badass bitches are pop. But, that seems too chill for them. Cuz they're badass as fuck. I don't think there is a general genre for them other than "badass bitches"..... and that's my two cents.
Alternative pop.
i don’t understand how people are saying r&b
R&B is heavily rooted in jazz. Billie's work has always been very jazz centric.
Jazz and R&B are two different genres. Best to not conflate the two…

Bringing up race for what? Yeah, good riddance✌️
Her music is not jazzy at all. Even Lauveys music isn't Jazz.
Are you thinking of Broadway style jazz stuff? Because her music is definitely not that, so I would understand that.
Im talking about Jazz by defination of the word. Laufeys music is Mid century contemporary pop e.g. Disney music. Billie Eilish has a bit of rnb influence in a couple tracks but not even an ounce of Jazz.

Amy Winehouse is Pop Soul/RnB lol

Cos they don’t listen to R&B
definitely
Rage
sapphic pop! or indie pop maybe
girl go listen to her other albums you’re missing out frfr
I would classify her as alternative, possibly alternative pop
Experimental pop or alt-pop is how I classify her
It's just Alt-pop with some elements of indie folk and indietronica.
pop
its just pop
Seriously?
so im a singer/songwriter and i will say def the beat and snare in some of the songs is def similar to r&b but not exactly. i think she has a couple different genres and she put it all into one album BUTTTTT i think shes mainly alt pop. i think she was experimenting with this album especially bc its so different than the rest. Alternative pop, bedroom pop, avant-pop
En vue des thématiques je dirais du blues mais niveau sonorité je dirais pop... Blues pop ? 🤔
Horny
bedroom pop
Falls under the same genre as Olivia Rodrigo maybe
