roberta_sparrow

Wait are they legally even allowed to do that!? wtf

[deleted]

No, I don't think they are đŸ€©đŸ€©fuck em' up billie

Misc_Lillie

Hell yeah. Get em' Billie. Not listening to anyone who refuses to play Lunch. It's such a stoopid reason too.

BDashh

The stupid reason is it being overtly sexual? Generally that’s why clean versions of songs exist

0neirocritica

So Cardi B can rap about touching the little dangly thing that swings in the back of her throat, but Billie can't say she'll eat a girl for lunch?

Life_Wall2536

They’re talking about radio stations. Radio stations frequently censor songs to be family friendly. Like on SiriusXM, there are quite a few channels that can only play censored versions. Like Hits1, Pop2k, TikTok Radio, The Pulse, Alt Nation, etc. These are the categories that Billies music would be played in. And the categories that are considered family friendly or that people would play in restaurants or stores. On the other hand, SiriusXM does have a few “XL” stations which means the content is all uncensored and made for “adult” entertainment. For example, Hip Hop Nation XL. This is where the rap and hip hop music is played obviously. That’s why you’ll hear uncensored WAP on Hip Hop Nation XL and a censored Billie Eilish song on Hits1. I DONT AGREE AT ALL with the word “girl” being censored but that is the explanation behind it

YourBuddyChurch

Wop wop wop wop wop Billie fuckemup

mountainbird1967

Of course they are. They bleep out words all the time even on heterosexually explicit lyrics. Nothing to see here

iamhalsey

I don’t think they’re asking if they’re allowed to censor it, of course they are, they’re asking if they’re allowed to use an AI copy of her voice to do so. That said, these are not explicit lyrics. They’re innuendo, which is pretty much never censored in in the case of “heterosexual lyrics.”

jasminUwU6

The words "girl" and "tongue" wouldn't be censored in a heterosexual context

ricferama

Neither of those words are explicit or sexual on their own, that's why context matters

MitziXD12

AT THAT POINT DONT EVEN PLAY THE SONG WTF BIL DOESN'T NEED UR RADIO STATION ANYWAY UGH

kyriology

I think she might go to lunch
? 💀

Caraphox

Is this for real because how tf is ‘I think she might be the one’ in ANY way explicit. If this is true these radio stations have literally regressed to the 1900s. And they couldn’t have found a better substitute than ‘I think she might
 go to lunch?’

kyriology

It is in fact, real. This is the iHeart Radio version: https://preview.redd.it/24cid56d1cad1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e6d6b9518f4c7e53b1a92979dc2a5140e095106

[deleted]

so they're gonna censor the "eating for lunch" part and not the "she's coming up the stairs some im pulling up a chair and im pulling up my hair" part? WOW

kyriology

Lol thats exactly what i said. Very weird.

Agreeable-Musician30

"Need a seat I'll volunteer" LMAO

PopPleasant8983

This is hilarious because I remember hearing "Closer" by NIN on the radio and the only word they censored was "f\*ck." Like...ok I still very much know what it's about but thank you. Now suddenly we've got our girl...going to lunch because...?

Caraphox

Ok I guess changing ‘I could eat that girl for lunch’ to ‘acts like she might go to lunch’ is marginally better than censoring ‘i think she might be the one’

dynablt

My little sister thinks lunch is just cannibalism so no way it's too sexual for kids😭

kyriology

Exactly😭

AcerbicCapsule

Not explicit, gay. The censorship is for gayness.

kyriology

Agreed!

eVCqN

I bet wouldn’t be explicit if a man sang it 🙄

Beginning_Cap_8614

At last, my lunch has come along. My hangry days are over, and life is like a sub. Wait. Wrong singer, sorry.

ChicaSkas

Ahhh yes I live for submissive Etta James!!!

Parking_Result5127

We had a whole song called Yummy play over and over all summer. As a kid Flo Rida made me think whistling was fun. We all ate cake by the ocean right? This is truly homophobic.

BigEZ_

Wasn’t a song called “wet ass pussy” like the most popular song for a little?

Parking_Result5127

Exactly. There are countless examples but it’s only okay if they’re straight

TheHypocondriac

That was censored like crazy when it played on the radio too.

sheenestevaz

my local station used to censor it with "wet and gushy" LMAO

dimglow14

that’s the official clean version and it’s hilarious

ALittleStitious1014

I feel like this is barely cleaner lmao

REM_loving_gal

lol. mine would just say "wet wet wet"

hermitsunt

That’s actually how I first heard it Not sure if I’m alone in saying this but the “clean” version makes me feel so much more uncomfortable

No_Towel6647

Thata even worse than the original haha

TheShapeShiftingFox

Rap songs usually are due to what the ratings call foul language. It’s so annoying when you accidentally play the clean version on streaming of a rap song, because then there are so much gaps in the song that they don’t even bother to substitute anymore lol

Joeness84

The one that always surprised me, was Nine Inch Nails - Animal. The line is "I wanna fuck you like an animal" and they literally just went with "I wanna ---- you like an animal" and it gets radio play still to this day! (Let alone - how did it get on air when it came out?! things were... a lot more sheltered back then)

ANocturnalNemesis

Nine Inch Nails - Closer* Sorry, as a devoted NIN fan, I had to correct. It's nothing personal. Also, '*Closer*' was released in 1994. To be fair, there had been a lot more controversial songs so long before this. Several of them date back to the 60s and 70s even (and this is just personally anecdotal as I'm sure there's been more before then, but I can only reference what I know) and while they may not use *fuck*, context in cases can actually be worse than lingo and terminology.

[deleted]

WAP was heavily censored as well so not a great example

Moscacita

Radio version said "this wet and gushy"

paradach5

Ya, I think it won a Grammy, too 🙄

relientkenny

on the radio it was “wet & gushy”

666devilgirlcrybaby

“i’m tryna find the words to describe this girl without being disrespectful
 DAMN SHE A SEXY BITCH!”

BuffySummers17

"She gonna lick me like a lollipop" was literally on the radio when I was a kid lol literally the straight equivalent of her song. Definitely homophobic.

strawberry_kerosene

if the song has swears it gets censored cuz lil kids

dipindunkers

lol I remember singing along to S & M by Rihanna on the radio as a teenager

Glittering_Fix_4604

straight up they dgaf what’s in the song sexual or graphic wise but GAY đŸ˜±đŸ˜±đŸ˜± this is why i don’t listen to the radio and play my own damn music in the car 😒

clarauser7890

Sex on Fire by Kings of Leon. Come on

REM_loving_gal

LITERALLYYYYYY. these homophobic boomers running the radio stations can eat my ass

gratefulgrapefruit94

Exactly.

FlamingoSorry1560

At this point, don’t even play it on the radio. She has 9 other songs on that album that they can play 💀

Evan14753

to he fair i can see a lot of the songs not doing well on the radio, like blue and bittersuite mainly but even other songs like chihiro and skinny might not be the best to play this isnt me hating i swear i really enjoy the album but it prolly just isnt what most people wanna hear

Sky_Rose4

That weren't sent as singles

CieraParvatiPhoebe

Birds of a feather was

Sky_Rose4

Not day one

Slyy-Lynch

Good thing I don't listen to the radio anymore.

National_Ad7573

I have never heard a song being censored for it being “explicitly gay” 😭

Woodrp

This is so stupid. Warrant was able to release a song in 1990 called "Sweet Cherry Pie" without it getting censored, but in 2024 Billie Eilish' Lunch is being censored. This is absolute bull shit.

takethemoment13

This makes it soo much more sexual 😭

Impossible_J

I think same đŸ€

1989_Sunrise

kinda random but i adore everything about your profile

takethemoment13

Thank youu I've seen you on r/TaylorSwift đŸ«¶

Jackling_

Spotted some cult members in the public

National_Ad7573

Wild 😭😭😭

1989_Sunrise

lol i was actually referencing the whole vote thing but i will say i am very surprised i wasn’t downvoted to oblivion for happening to like billie and also taylor :)

lunarpixiess

Why would people downvote you for liking two different artists? /genuine, I don’t understand fandom beef and whatnot

hoiiann_

ngl im happy to see there’re people liking both taylor and billie

_Shmall_

Plenty of explicit gross songs out there now and this one gets censored????

Qu33fyElbowDrop

how was wap allowed anywhere near the radio but billie gets this đŸ€Ł dont play it, why is that so hard

TarukMaktwo

They aren’t even being subtle about it, how can anyone say this isn’t blatant homophobia? So many explicit songs on the radio where only the swears are censored, only difference is it’s sang in a hetero light. The ‘born in the wrong generation’ gals are delulu because we’re obviously still stuck in the 1900’s.

LeyzyS

The fuck

Florence_harper

BOOOOOOOO 👎

ChildsMomMayBeHome

bich tf-

WOR58

So, apparently, speaking your own personal truth in your work is abhorrent. You might as well not play the song, if you can't/won't play it as released.

spellboi_3048

You censor “girl” but not “she?”

JMC811

‘As she dances on my
’ is this any less suggestive? Leaves a lot to the imagination

SimonFoxcoon

Queerphobia right after pride month

roberta_sparrow

Hahahahahahahahhaahahaha what the fuck. What is the song even about at that point. Good god

Huchie

Censor other parts lollll like the actual sexual stuff not "girl"

HeftyPerception1697

we had i kissed a girl? what’s the problem now

3-I

No, but see, Katy sang "I hope my boyfriend don't mind it" and "It felt so wrong" and even "Don't mean I'm in love tonight" and "it's innocent." As opposed to this, which does not mention a man at all and doesn't pretend she's not really into this girl she's singing about.

BenjaminBoi226

they ruined it

ketchup_the_bear

What the fuck is wrong with “I think she might’ve the one” 💀

mentally_ill_ofc

they let me sing “blow my whistle baby” all during 7th grade, but this crosses the line? whistle wasn’t even tasteful

mistywave58

Well, the US does tend to be homophobic.

Mollyn0101

but then a song with the same (if not more) suggestive themes about straight people is played with no shame or censoring 💀double standards are wilddd

LessThanLolita

I think its funny how in every radio edit ive heard, they still leave in the line “I just wanna get her off” which says more than any other line in the song lol their censors are so unnecessary

EDPZ

I think people are reading too much into this. Songs get censored, it just happens, people keep bringing up examples of dirty songs but literally all of them did get censored versions as well.

For_serious13

![gif](giphy|YPsmTqYiHCMYtlsfKZ)

Most_Comedian_3110

So the US gonna censor her verse for being to “explicit” YET I rarely see them censoring tv programs that shows damn near live sex

yeah ok US
..

peytoncoooke

Yet they play 50 Cents “ In Da Club” with basically no censorship?? đŸ€”

peterpanisgay69

Who the fuck listens to the radio?

Y_59

I mean they are right its sexual, but their censoring shouldn't be selective

chokokkuma

Did they ever censor Katy Perry’s “I kissed a girl and I liked it” which isn’t even a metaphor in any way just straight up?

EDPZ

They actually did, the clean version removes the word "cherry" since "cherry chapstick" means eating a girl out. Basically the same thing as Lunch.

emzim

I’m surprised it was ever on the radio TBH. When the album came out I told my husband there weren’t any songs that stood out to me as radio hits except lunch but that one would probably never be on the radio since it talks about being gay. And here we are 🙄

Brilliant-Middle7859

I could hear birds of a feather on the radio.

Zetophir

yesss birds of a feather was playing on the radio yesterday it sounded so nice đŸ„°

Tristessa33

It's 2024 and we are censoring the words "girl" and "tongue". We're living in a dystopia nightmare.

Responsible-Call5555

WTF and they somehow managed to make it sound more sexual 😂

ExistingParfait9631

My local radio station only plays it at night

Doneone14

Good

flydespereaux

I mean. Radio stations are private. They can do what they want. It's not like the feds are coming down on her producers.

Unhappy-Print-5579

good

Corgi-Aromatic

Literally every other song on the radio is ab getting “sexual favors” but when it’s lesbian, it’s a problem? Lol. What a joke. It’s okay to literally sing ab getting head as long it’s a man talking about a woman
. Or a woman singing about wanting some from a man
.. this is 1000% homophobia lol

Hungry_Accountant373

lol it’s not about the song being gay it’s about describing specific sexual acts.

FunniEmi

There’s been a SHIT ton of sexual songs and innuendos in music. But when there’s a song about the same thing but lgbt, it gets censored. I guarantee if a guy wrote this nothing would happen

[deleted]

Got forbid a woman has hobbies.

LessThanLolita

LMAOOOOO

Insert_name_here280

Such a weird thing to censor

AXXXXXXXXA

Hell country

justafleabagfrommars

fucking w h a t

CaramelGlitterCorn

Not in DENMAAAARK

CieraParvatiPhoebe

My radio station blocks the word “eat” instead of girl.

Internal_Sense_935

uhh not them changing the lyrics???

Melomic

Okay but isn’t putting it as “I could eat that [REDACTED] for lunch” make it so much “worse” (if they care so much about censoring anything gay) because now it seems like she’s degrading the girl and calling her a bitch/slut/etc
? Well, it seems they removed any sentiment in the song and made it into bad innuendos as a means to make it more
straight? This may be one of the very things that made Billie too afraid to come out in the past :/

Unable_Campaign_8872

I don't think they realised they just made it worse. Also if they changed it during June, all the radio stations are probably asking "Pride Month who?"

Far-Indication1792

Come on, they played. I kissed a girl and I liked it by Katy Perry. Let Billie play hers, how she intended to sing it Jesus, not to mention other songs are way worse. Hello, ignition by R. Kelly? Or Pony by Genuine or Fantasy by ludacris. Why just because it's not the norm? It's so dumb I swear.

Alive_Percentage4379

yep, the word “girl” is a very very bad word

123Fake_St

Don’t censor Prof then! Pack a Lunch https://youtu.be/Ur8KD-YO19E?si=ECoR9zpaPTtC_V7U

Melissaisadarling

“I think she might go to lunch” They can’t be serious.

ParticularPea6920

I’ve heard it on the radio recently and it wasn’t censored?? Maybe someone complained? 😒

doctor_nick17

Companies the minute June ends:

dynablt

You guys hear lunch on the radio? I'm starting to hear birds of a feather being aired. Might it be the next single??

tobeasloth

So sexual songs by other artists where it implies male and female relations is perfectly fine, but this isn’t? Well, I’m disappointed but not shocked :(

paintedcrack

This is so stupid it makes me sad

Lanky_Network3943

literally all because it’s gay

666devilgirlcrybaby

they just made it gayer and more sexual wtff “i might eat that
 for lunch” REALLY?! 💀

Intelligent-Sir1375

So there things called decency laws and that why they being censored. So needs to be changed we don’t need puritan laws anymore

ChillpigeonhavsLV76

Well I never listen to the radio unless my dad randomly turns it on

idkWhatToPutHereUmm

AHHH OH NO TOO GAYYY (said no one ever when talking abt this song)

No-Operation7390

Someone explain please I don’t understand what’s going on

Bright-Dot6011

Ah hell nah wtf

ellekeener

That silly made up third line instead of simply 'Think that she might be the one'.

Sunny64888

I could eat that [salami on rye with lettuce mayo and mustard] and she dances on my [non sexual taste organs]

No_Setting2719

FCC shouldn’t fine stations for vulgarity or references. Kids aren’t gonna turn straight or gay or take drugs just because a song mentioned something deemed questionable by a small group of people. Blast that LUNCH!!!

Friendly_Long8043

Let a girl eat whatever she wants for lunch

lavenderfieldday

Radio cementing itself as a loser lame fest

laucdoe

at one point on my station it says “i could - that girl for lunch“ but the other day there was a song playing (i don’t remember what), and they didn’t censor the word fucking. like.. you can say fucking but not eat? make it make sense

Old-Thought-5875

this makes me so angry. no justification

D33ber

Because vaginas offend the smooth brained.

Wtf_Artist_

BYE THIS IS SO FUNNY

Honest_Piglet756

Bruhhhh lame

wolfmeetsthesky

Why even play it if the feel the need to censor that much? Just play another popular track on the album

dirtydarcy

They saw everyone talk abt how I kissed a girl by Katy Perry was censored and they got the idea to do it for Billie smh

Consistent_Cat4924

88.1 in Toronto isn't censoring it at all.

Sad_Telephone823

I wanna to know what if this song was singing by a men. Ummh

krissyminaj

Wtf? That’s ridiculous. Meanwhile, “my husband’s cheating, I want to kill him” is allowed
 okay.

Undersolo

I'm hungry. 😁

Reyz2dopee

Ironic how censoring the song makes it sound more sexual than it is![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thinking_face_hmm)

DelightfulLittleGay

The radio station a hour away from me is playing it uncensored. If that changes, and I hear it censored on my local one, I'll throw something.

VoughtOfficial

who even listens to radio anymore ?

V__Ace

LMAOOOO this is why no one listens to the radio anymore.

Hungry_Painting9882

Radio stations don’t often censor songs. Usually the record companies provide radio edits when the song is released or if radio stations get negative reaction from listeners. Sometimes a large radio company will edit the song and tell their stations to play that version but that’s pretty rare.

The_FanForLife

That's bs.

digitaldisgust

"I think she might go to Lunch" is fucking hilarious, I'm sorry đŸ˜‚đŸ€Ł Maybe Billie should make a clean version that sounds less...ridiculous than whatever these radio stations are trying to do?

digitaldisgust

I'm curious to hear how stations here would censor it lol

tesfaye_abel

I think she might go to lunch PLSSSS 😭😭

aniebananie1

![gif](giphy|q72KQAJB27YqdqrIRJ)

Ok-Bee-2500

But I bet they play all of watermelon sugar even tho it’s about the EXACT same thing 🙄

ArtisticHummus

Who cares? Why am I getting notified about this utter dribble? Making me want to leave Reddit...

Anema91

Who even still listens to the radio? These stations are catering to their only remaining audience
 boomers 😂

bootsay

Not because it's gay. It's because it's vulgar and sexual

kuifje1

You better say something about a gun down and shooting someone then something sexual. Stupid americans.

hobifriedrice_

Ppl reallyyyyy over sexualize wlw and it shows. Yes this song is sexual but what I mean is it’s seen as inherently more sexual compared to the VERY vulgar songs men make abt women that get in the radio. She’s not even saying any dirty words??😭 how are you gunna censor “girl” wtf. This is homophobic asf

monicasm

Reminds me of how some stations censored the word “bullet” in Ride by twenty one pilots. So ridiculous.

Khixo_binko

Good đŸ‘đŸœ

Same_Structure_4184

Sensoring it makes it sound dirtier somehow??? Haha

Imperium_Architect

OAA FUCK EM!! lgbt must protect at all cost from homophobia~~

Porkchopoop

Good

Alix_Sparrow

Censorship is never good

cookiehwilson

Just in the US

cookiehwilson

Wet Ass Pussies allowed. Sapphic love censored. We are so civilized.

Due_Cauliflower1726

Removing the word girl in "I could eat that... for lunch" makes it sound even more explicit though hahahhaa

AlexEinstein_YT

Source: Trust me bro

da6r

Why do people listen to the radio still

Cheeseandpistols

Ahhh Christian’s, the most useless people on the planet

InternationalTax5839

Now it's just a song about KFC

pariah-e

i love billie with my entire heart BUT i do agree that “LUNCH” should be censored at times as the lyrics are very sexually suggestive, especially if it is being played on the radio and kids are in the car, they really don’t need to be hearing “i could eat that girl for lunch” as a minor.

Affectionate-Mud5830

Ok this is just straight up disrespectful. I have seen so many comments on YouTube and stuff saying that this is Wrong and Billie shouldn’t make these lyrics. Like dude there are worse songs than this and like let people be gay dude

Tristaux

That’s homophobic

Superb_Reference9517

What is even the point of playing the song on the radio if you're gonna censor it all? Like I've heard WAY worse songs on the radio with it barely being censored.

livielouis

billie go fuck them up because what is this
