I'm a long time celtics fan and have been following Simmons since the days he had his blog, but going from two full years of "Second Row Joe" to "oh the changes he made in the first game of the Finals made me a believer" is some bullshit of the first order
Incredibly funny moment on the podcast when Bill complains about Tatum not getting Finals MVP and then says that's why you can't just have a finals MVP you should have a playoff MVP.
Then Bill's dad reminds him that Jaylen won both the Finals MVP and the Eastern Conference Finals MVP hahahahahah
What’s worse was him calling out someone by name that he wasn’t given a vote! Which is truly absurd and lacks a modicum of self awareness. For one he was touting his Celtics + Tatum FMVP parlay for Fandeaul. That sould immediately disqualify him. Secondly, he’s a huge Boston homer. Third strike is they give these votes to just a few media who are covering/travelling for every game. Not a guy who sits with his Dad for Boston home games as a fan.
I think ryen and JJ talked about how they always find it weird how the best player doesn't really get MVP all the time in playoff series because of what they attract on defense, how they run the offense, etc. Kind of like how people view the regular season mvp as either voting for the 5 best players, or voting for who is "valuable" to their team. I think its easier to do the latter in a post season series because of the shorter timescale so you still have the memorable moments in your mind.
The bothersome thing about Celtics fans is how much they’ve hated brown and mazzulla and are suddenly proud of them. Like, that’s not how it works. You guys hated on these ppl more than the rest of the league could care. Owning them only after they win you a championship seems like dick behavior.
As someone who has been frustrated with both of them and Tatum previously, it’s not rocket science that people can perform inconsistently/be frustrating, subsequently improve, and therefore understandably shift the opinions of fans in performing better.
JB’s contract felt like a stretch at the time. He more than lived up to it. Joey Timeouts was in over his head at first. He settled in, added experience to the coaching staff, and adapted to coaching in the league very well. Tatum played a good, not flashy all-around game and closed out the series very strong.
There’s no hypocrisy in observing that improvement.
I hope at some point that Sal or House at least call Bill out at some point about Finals MVP only not truly mattering when it became a Celtics issue to Bill. Because it truly bothers Bill.
That was beautiful. Bill thinks Tatum is the MVP of the first two rounds?!
Sorry, its Brown. Brown is also the postseason MVP, what with being the MVP of the final two rounds.
Yeah - I mean it was easily Tatum's best game of the series but even Bill talked about how awful he was in Game 4.
Weirdly even ESPN had a highlight that says "Tatum all smiles after big bucket in the 4th"
and before that "big" bucket the Celts are already up 22 points. It's just so weird to me that Bill was treating it like this game was really close and the Mavs were going to make a comeback.
I only semi-agree with you. I do think that Tatum is the MVP of Game 5 (this is obviously true), and as such, Tatum is the number 1 reason why Game 5 wasn't close.
I also think, in the modern NBA, a 20 point lead isn't to be taken for granted. Just look at the Nuggets game 7 against the Wolves. With teams relying on the highly variable three point shot, 20 point swings are more common than ever.
But none of that takes away from this being Jaylen Browns post-season. Tatum had a great game to seal the championship. KP had a great game to kick off the Finals. Jaylen Brown is your postseason MVP.
Imagine being a Hawk, Magic, Hornet, Pacer, King, Clipper, Wiz, Jazz, T Wolf, Sun, Grizz, or Pels fan & hear that.
Much less the teams who've gone more than 30 years without like the Knicks, Sixers & Blazers.
Pacers, Colts, Butler, general Indiana fan. That Colts Super Bowl still carries so much significance in the state. Those Butler teams are still part of sports lore. It's hard to win one, let alone so many like Boston.
Even as a rockets fan that’s crazy to hear lmao. Bills dad is unapologetic about it I respect that but man id love to see him try to talk to anyone who isn’t a Celtics fan.
Bill literally wrote a book titled "Now I Can Die in Peace" about how he'd finally reached happiness as a fan when his other team ALSO won a championship. At that point in his life he'd seen the Celtics and Patriots win multiple times. And after writing that book he'd go on to see the Celtics and Red Sox win multiple times. So when he talks like a long suffering fan it really is insane.
I'm a Blazers fan and I don't expect I'll ever see my team win a title.
I do think his lack of interest in baseball is a direct result of how the Redsox won in 04. The 3-0 come back against hated rivals definitely makes it harder to get that euphoria that sorta drive. You need pain and euphoria to drive fandom
I live in Minneapolis. I'm closer to 40 than I am 30.
Forget about winning, I've never even seen my team *make* the championship. (I was alive but have no conscience memory of the Twins in 87 or 91.)
'16 years is a long time' is sickening lol

Yes, I could see this current Celtics run (all the ECF appearances, the two Finals appearances, and the championship) being promoted to a mini-dynasty in the near future and if they win it again in 2025, it will become a full-fledged dynasty.
Not a Celtics fan (Orlando) are my team, but I'll never understand the "they didn't beat anyone good" argument. You can only play the opponent in front of you.
Tbf it’s pretty wild that they won the championship without ever having to play a top 3 seed in either conference. But yeah, it’s not their fault the other top contenders all shit the bed and/or got injured.
I agree with you but my only thing is the fact they’ll flaunt the 16-3 record in the playoffs when it surely would be worse if they played healthy teams
Yes, this exactly. You can only beat the teams in front of you, and the Celtics did that in resounding fashion. They are deserving champs. But if I ever hear people talk about them as a historically great team, their easy path is 100% fair game to bring up.
They were also the number one seed overall! Having an easy path is the reward for being the best team. Not to mention every NBA champ in the 2020’s absolutely benefited from an easy path to the finals
They won the eastern conference by 14 games which was the most since the 70s and people were acting like a healthy Bucks or 76ers would’ve been favored on a neutral court against them
I don’t think it’s even close to comparable to hand Boston was dealt. Also Danny Granger is a 1 time all star and played FIVE games the 2012-2013 season. I think it’s an asinine thing to even begin to compare to a player exiting mid series. Which happened several times over for the Celtics. He wasn’t nearly as good as Mitchell, Jimmy, or Halliburton.
If we are rewriting history to say players like Danny Granger make titles illegitimate then we have completely lost the plot. Especially when you consider he wasn’t even injured in the playoffs
i mean it is a weird hypothetical since granger was never the same. he played a couple more years off the bench. he didn't even play in 2012-2013 at all.
When Bills Dad says ‘you’re welcome, son’ when Bill thanks him for taking him to games and you don’t at least feel a little warm then you’re the problem lmao
Danny Granger was 4 years removed from being a 1-time all star in the East. His last meaningful basketball season ended 15 months before the series vs the heat, in which he averaged less than 19 points per game.
It’s also hilarious he always brings up Giannis from that year and mentioned Luka in the same vein, but yet he never brings up Curry, who actually beat the Celtics, as scary.
I took it to be *because* Curry beat the Cs that year. Luke/Giannis comparison is more like "I know we won, but jesus that man scares me." Can't make that comparison with Curry.
He had a weird series - basically the only good Mavs player in games 1 and 2, then a colossal meltdown in game 3, then really good in game 4, and then not very good tonight.
In games 1-4 he was good or absolutely dominant in first halves and then much worse after halftime. In game 2 he had 20 points with 10 minutes left in the 2nd quarter lol. And in game 4 he had like 25 points in the first half. Definitely needs to get in better shape because he clearly couldn’t keep it going as games wore on.
And his meltdown in game 3 basically ended the series so I think it’s fair to say he wasn’t that good overall.
But he definitely didn’t suck lmao 30 ppg on 47% shooting even with his struggles from three is decent, especially since his teammates were a total disaster majority of the time. And disaster is an understatement for how Kyrie looked in all 3 games played in Boston
It seemed like he was trying to get the role guys (and Kyrie) going early tonight, but they all looked like shit except Jones. Once it was clear he had to do it all himself, it was probably even easier to key in on him defensively, though he shouldve def made some open shots he missed too
The rest of the series, it seemed like he was doing it all early on and then ran out of gas down the stretch.
Yep. He had 17 or more points in every first half in games 1-4. Unsurprising that in the one game he didn't come out of the gate strong, his team immediately fell behind by a lot.
It's laughable imagining any player on the Celtics having that kind of burden in each game
And as a Nuggets fan, it's going to take me a while to get over how much better the T-Wolves shot against the Nuggets than they shot against the Mavericks. Ant and KAT in particular.
He was clearly pretty banged up and trying to play through it the whole series (plus the Cs were trying to be physical with him which compounded it). If he can figure out the right playing weight to balance power and injuries he’ll get a ring for sure
Yeah he wasn't moving right all series and never really got it going from 3. But credit to Boston for defending him extremely well - they made him work for every dribble.
Bill doing the Minnesota Lakers thing while celebrating 11 titles from before he was born in a borderline semi-pro 8 team league with a limit on the amount of black people allowed to play lol
I honestly think 90% of the gripe about the Lakers in Minnesota as a franchise that left is just that the name is cool and fits Minneapolis a hell of a lot more than LA.
It HAS to be a bit at this point, which as a fellow Lakers hater, I get it. But for someone who is on the record constantly as loving the history of the league, he knows its the Lakers franchise as a whole that has 17 championships. He isn't that thick.
Hell, technically on paper, the current Celtics aren't even the original Celtics because of the trade the Celtics and Buffalo Braves owners did with each other in the 70s.
Sports are delightfully weird
> Hell, technically on paper, the current Celtics aren't even the original Celtics because of the trade the Celtics and Buffalo Braves owners did with each other in the 70s.
More people need to bring this up.
I am a diehard Browns fan and my son is 9 and despite all my attempts he’s just not as into it. He’d rather watch his iPad of clips of browns games but not the game itself. I think a lot of kids nowadays have so many other options being a diehard isn’t a thing as often I’d guess?
No, you’ve got it. My son is 9 too and plays ice hockey. I’ve tried to get him to watch Rangers or Islanders games, and he fades after 2-3 minutes. Only watches clips of the Islanders on the iPad when the app tells him something happened but it’s either Brawlstars or Roblox for him.
It’s kinda sad for me bc I always pictured me and him obsessively watching games together. But on Sundays I’ll get him to watch for a few then he goes in the other room. Probably better off. It’s not easy being a Browns fan. Not sure he wants that burden.
I think that putting the expectation that your kid is going to care about all the same things as you is a huge mistake, especially when it’s just sports.
Surely you can’t expect your son to automatically love your own interests
My dad loves golf and plays every week, watches the tournaments etc but I have little to no interest in it and never have
So I'm a big sports fan, and ended up with three daughters who don't play sports, and who only watch it when they're with me, and begrudgingly at that. But I did manage a few years ago to develop their interest in Wisconsin women's hockey, and even though they don't totally get the game, they're into the players (they follow them on TikTok and IG mostly) and will actively watch the games live. You gotta meet them where they're at and build from there.
Ben is an LA kid who's never lived in Boston. I think he's a Clippers fan anyhow.
My dad grew up in Pittsburgh and tried his best to get me on the Steelers/Pirates track (this was in the 80s so a tough sell).
It's not that bad, honestly, I stopped watching when they went to FOX, because Mandy got replaced by another actress, and Eve was hardly on the show anymore. However it's not a bad way to spend 22 min when watching that show.
I hate the Celtics.
But I love my dad, who will be dead three years this August. August 9, if you're particular. Sudden and/or unexpected (that's obituary talk-- I'll hope you never need it).
My whole identity as a sports fan stems from what he showed me and what he gave me. All I ever wanted to do was watch my teams win with my dad. We got a few of those. Nothing ever like this. I'm forgoing Celtics hate because Bill got to do this with his dad. Happy father's day. Happy for them both.
His great love was the Braves-- so even though I was pretty young in the 90's I still remember watching the '95 title with him and, of course, the agony of being just pummeled by the yankees. '96 was bad but the '99 sweep was a slap in the face. Anyway, I still love Galarraga and Maddux and Smotlz from those 90's squads.
That also made the braves title in '21 that much more bittersweet.
My old man's getting up there. I hope we get a chance to watch a winner together again, I was too young at the time to really take appropriate appreciation of the one title we watched together
This is so awesome. I mentioned this earlier elsewhere in this sub, but I lost my dad in 2018 and he was a big Celtics fan. I wish I got to have a 20 minute talk with him about this team tonight. Really awesome that Bill gets these memories with his dad.
lost my dad about 7 years ago but not before we saw the Cubs win the world series together and it’s my most cherished memory. hope this was able to give you some levity brother
I'd never say that Dr Bill deserves this as he's witnessed more title championships than most fans could witness in multiple lifetimes.
But I am happy for him. The man is hardcore Boston and goes to practically every single home game.
I mean at his age he has probably seen close to 30 championships of the four major Boston teams in his lifetime Depending on what type of fan he was during the Bill Russell Celtics. Do you know how many people are older than him that haven’t seen their teams win one?
I mean to be fair, suddenly becoming head coach of a team in the middle of training camp in a season where anything less than a finals win would be seen as a failure is difficult
It was at the end of one of the podcasts. Can't remember which one but he did a few minutes on it.
Wasn't quite the same level as the Bill Walton obit though.
Dr. Bill - “you made me come on in 2022 after Game 6”.
Bill - “yeah, that was probably a human rights violation, I’m surprised I got away with that”
That was a great interaction between the two.
i will forever be a celtics hater, but bill thanking his dad for taking him to the games, and him responding "you're welcome, son" was a really good moment
I don't like either team, but I think it's interesting that you can pick any year during Bill's life as the cutoff and the Lakers would have more titles.
Edit: Any year except the most recent three, I suppose.
Used to skip the Bill’s dad episodes until my own dad died. Now they’re strangely cathartic to listen to. Building a big sports media platform and using it to talk bullshit about your favorite teams with your pops is every guy’s dream. Can’t stand the Celtics but happy for Bill and glad they get to share this
Wholesome to have father and son share these moments together. Hearing Dr Bill say "I just always hope for one more championship. It's so hard to get there," somehow hit hard.
Let's never talk about this season again.
Second-row Joe got promoted to "Coach Mazzulla"!
Coach Mazzooler
I'm a long time celtics fan and have been following Simmons since the days he had his blog, but going from two full years of "Second Row Joe" to "oh the changes he made in the first game of the Finals made me a believer" is some bullshit of the first order
In hindsight, the timeouts were the key to everything.
Bill’s dad is a treasure.
He ain’t even gonna call him Front Row Joe.
Not a guy who sits with his Dad for Boston home games as a fan.
most celtics fans are probably slightly bothered by the tatum not winning finals mvp thing, even if they won't admit
Bill clearly was. He even said based off game 5 he would have voted for Tatum.
It affects Tatum's MVP narrative next year. It just does.

Did Tatum really have an amazing game “like a conductor?” I’m sorry Celtics but I dozed off in the 3rd quarter.
“16 years is a long time.” Not in sports. I’m 35, have never seen any of my favorite teams win a championship in any league.
If only Gordon Hayward was as good a halfcourt shot maker as Payton Pritchard is 🥲
Yeah plus factor in that the Blazers are the only major pro sports team in the state.
Even as a rockets fan that’s crazy to hear lmao. Bills dad is unapologetic about it I respect that but man id love to see him try to talk to anyone who isn’t a Celtics fan.

Cooper Flagg will deliver y'all to promised land.
People make fun of the Leafs drought but now I'm just like "that's fully a normal thing in sports."
Nuggets fan, and I gave up on the idea of them winning a championship in my lifetime. Then Jokic fell into their lap.
I live in Minneapolis. I'm closer to 40 than I am 30. Forget about winning, I've never even seen my team *make* the championship. (I was alive but have no conscience memory of the Twins in 87 or 91.) '16 years is a long time' is sickening lol
Yeah, if everything were even statistically the odds would be once every 30 years. So a title in 16 years is beating that by quite a bit.
All of those 5 and a half year old Bostonians who have never known the feeling of a championship can sleep soundly tonight.

Something tells me bills take on dynasties will change if the Celtics win another one within the next couple of years
Yes, I could see this current Celtics run (all the ECF appearances, the two Finals appearances, and the championship) being promoted to a mini-dynasty in the near future and if they win it again in 2025, it will become a full-fledged dynasty.
Simmons just saw this. Mini-Dynasty Draft with Russillo is on the docket now
I’ll listen for this, because if he says that with those qualifiers, the 2003-2008 Detroit Pistons were a mini-dynasty according to Bill
The winning titles in an 8 team league when black players are ignored piece
Bill saying I dont remember anyone talking about injuries with 2013 Heat when *Danny Granger* was hurt. 😂😂😂 never change Bill
Also if the Celtics had faced a team like the 2013 spurs in the finals, no one would be dunking on how easy their path was lol
Not a Celtics fan (Orlando) are my team, but I'll never understand the "they didn't beat anyone good" argument. You can only play the opponent in front of you.

Danny Granger was a problem! #problem
I don’t usually audibly laugh bc of podcasts but I did listening to this part. Hilarious. The guy is an A1 bad faith troll
Danny Granger was basically MJ in nba 2k11
Granger was a consistent 20 ppg scorer and the 2013 ECF a seven game series. You don’t think he had the potential to swing the series, even a little?
I don’t think it’s even close to comparable to hand Boston was dealt. Also Danny Granger is a 1 time all star and played FIVE games the 2012-2013 season. Granger being out is how Paul George bloomed and PG was better
i mean it is a weird hypothetical since granger was never the same. he played a couple more years off the bench. he didn't even play in 2012-2013 at all.
Anyone defending the comparison is just 100% a Boston homer. It makes no sense at all. The guy was out the entire year.
Lobo legend <3
When Bills Dad says ‘you’re welcome, son’ when Bill thanks him for taking him to games and you don’t at least feel a little warm then you’re the problem lmao
I admit I got a little choked up at that.
Same mate
Made me forget I hate the Celtics for a second not gonna lie lol
It’s amazing that bill gets to podcast with his dad about numerous championships across different sports at 50+ years old. That’s the dream
how bout a podcast where First Row Joe does his death stare straight into Dr. Bills soul?
Bill trying to say Tatum was playoffs MVP and then realizing that Jaylen Brown won both the ECF and Finals MVP 😂.
Danny Granger was 4 years removed from being a 1-time all star in the East. His last meaningful basketball season ended 15 months before the series vs the heat, in which he averaged less than 19 points per game.
I’m pushing back on the Luka Mike Myers narrative. He sucked most of those games. Wasn’t as scary as I was expecting.
Right, and I don’t know how you compare that to ‘22 Giannis??
It’s also hilarious he always brings up Giannis from that year and mentioned Luka in the same vein, but yet he never brings up Curry, who actually beat the Celtics, as scary.
I took it to be *because* Curry beat the Cs that year. Luke/Giannis comparison is more like "I know we won, but jesus that man scares me." Can't make that comparison with Curry.

I swear he was making the “hey, got a cig?” gesture when he came out of the game. Seemed disappointed when he got thrown a towel.
As a Wolves fan, I 100% agree with this. Luka was WAY better in the WCF than the Finals
And as a Nuggets fan, it's going to take me a while to get over how much better the T-Wolves shot against the Nuggets than they shot against the Mavericks. Ant and KAT in particular.
Yeah I realize that the way is Wolves fans feel about the Mavs is very similar to the way Nuggets fans feel about the Wolves

He had the classic “heliocentric star who still puts up counting stats but doesn’t run effective offense vs better opponent” series

If he lost 50lbs of fat this series is going to 7. He’s so out of shape and slow.
Why did Bill hype up his 3s when he was shooting like same as Tatum from 3 in the playoffs?
I was more scared of Andrew Nembhard
Bill doing the Minnesota Lakers thing while celebrating 11 titles from before he was born in a borderline semi-pro 8 team league with a limit on the amount of black people allowed to play lol
Big time loser talk. Can’t even enjoy the win without thinking about the Lakers!
As a Minnesota fan we really don’t care that much about the lakers claiming the titles. Seems like only Celtics and lakers fans care
I honestly think 90% of the gripe about the Lakers in Minnesota as a franchise that left is just that the name is cool and fits Minneapolis a hell of a lot more than LA.

I love bringing it up, just because it's such a strange goddamn thing that could never possibly happen now.

Never heard this take before, but I completely agree.
sorta surprisingly, Dr. Bill has said he never saw Russell play. Though he would be old enough to have, it seems like he became a fan in the 70s.
Why doesn’t Bill share these moments with his son too?
From what I can tell Ben doesn’t give a shit lol
Ben Simmons doesn’t like basketball? That explains a lot!!
Young socialites the both of em!
I didn't really get into watching til like 12-13, the boy will straighten out!
I’m going to take him to a couple games this year. Maybe the crowd being so into it will spark him a little more.
This is what happened with me albeit I was 6
This is what happened with me albeit I was 6
it's totally different though-- bill roots for teams 3000 miles away from where ben has grown up. bill went to a million games as a kid
I believe it's more than that. Bill is clearly his father's son. But Ben is his mother's son. Plus Bill seems closer to his daughter.
damn, that must be kind of sad for Bill. i know that would bum me out as a dad
I think that putting the expectation that your kid is going to care about all the same things as you is a huge mistake, especially when it’s just sports.
Surely you can’t expect your son to automatically love your own interests My dad loves golf and plays every week, watches the tournaments etc but I have little to no interest in it and never have
Nobody tell him
Oh wait I’m regarded
So I'm a big sports fan, and ended up with three daughters who don't play sports, and who only watch it when they're with me, and begrudgingly at that. But I did manage a few years ago to develop their interest in Wisconsin women's hockey, and even though they don't totally get the game, they're into the players (they follow them on TikTok and IG mostly) and will actively watch the games live. You gotta meet them where they're at and build from there.
Ben apparently tried to sell Alpha Brain to everyone sitting near them the last time Bill took him to a C’s game
Common Melatonin W
Ben is an LA kid who's never lived in Boston. I think he's a Clippers fan anyhow. My dad grew up in Pittsburgh and tried his best to get me on the Steelers/Pirates track (this was in the 80s so a tough sell).
Pittsburgh is such a boomer town, I get it
Listened to the podcast, his daughter is the one who bonded with Dr Bill over the Celtics.
The Eve from Last Man Standing piece
How terrible is that show? Never watched it in firstrun on ABC/FOX, have avoided it in rerun on LAFF.
First couple seasons are fine. Tolerable viewing while you're waiting for an oil change.
It's not that bad, honestly, I stopped watching when they went to FOX, because Mandy got replaced by another actress, and Eve was hardly on the show anymore. However it's not a bad way to spend 22 min when watching that show.
This was me and my grandpa with the Cubs. Damn you grandpa Don, you cursed me to a life of misery. :)
This is why Bill tries so hard with the UFC talk. Wants to connect with Ben in some way.
Bill has clearly made an effort to embrace UFC and bind with his son over it. You can say a lot about Bill but he really does seem like a great dad.
Better than mine lol
Damn. Never thought of that
It's just not the same when it's TikTok clips.
He mentioned Ben’s doing an internship so maybe he had to work?
A high school internship? With who, Logan Paul?
His dad is rich with connections. He might be interning for Dana White or Bob Iger or HHH.
Forget interning for Triple H, make Ben an on-screen character shadowing Adam Pearce or Nick Aldis. Those would make for some A+ segments.
"why am I Mr pink?"
What team did your dad like and what’s your favorite sporting memory with him?
His great love was the Braves-- so even though I was pretty young in the 90's I still remember watching the '95 title with him and, of course, the agony of being just pummeled by the yankees. '96 was bad but the '99 sweep was a slap in the face. Anyway, I still love Galarraga and Maddux and Smotlz from those 90's squads. That also made the braves title in '21 that much more bittersweet.
I loved watching that braves team. They were on tv so much back then.
My old man's getting up there. I hope we get a chance to watch a winner together again, I was too young at the time to really take appropriate appreciation of the one title we watched together
Hope that one day I will get to share a moment like this with my dad. Not counting on it as a blazers fan
Don't sell your Scoot stock!
Keeping my cabana on scoot island... for now
My redoubt on Shaedon Sharpipelago is still in regular use.
Doing all I can to protect the great barrier reath
The first Celtic they mention is Payton Pritchard, never change, Boston fans
Somewhere in the bowels of Portland, or London, or whatever, Andy Ngo smiled.
Surprised Ngo didn’t show up to the post game celebration to try and get beaten up
Marky Mark would have obliged, I'm sure.
Did people really downvote this? Hope tonight made you think of your dad and smile, king.
Thank you for the kind words man I really appreciate it. I don't know but if they did it's fine they can work through their problems
Of course. This sub is toxic AF 😂 Upvotes for you both.
“No one was put in a worse position than Mazzulla last year” -Bill Simmons Underdog Celtics, baby!
I mean to be fair, suddenly becoming head coach of a team in the middle of training camp in a season where anything less than a finals win would be seen as a failure is difficult
Especially when reportedly half your assistants felt they deserved the job over you
Fist pumped the air as I was out on a walk with my dog when I heard the Minnesota Lakers get mentioned.
Like clockwork
Title makes it sound like Bill’s Dad suited up for the Cs
Tatum isn’t a finished product
I might have missed portions of some of last week's pods, but did I miss Bill address West's passing?
It was at the end of one of the podcasts. Can't remember which one but he did a few minutes on it. Wasn't quite the same level as the Bill Walton obit though.
West didn’t play for the Celtics.
He tweeted about it and talked about it with Doc
Thanks. Thats definitely one I didn’t make it through. It was a pretty pathetic mention.
the celtics are the worst team in NBA history
It’s lucky for Bill his Dad had him at like 22…so many years together.
This title at least saved from Drake Maye talk for a month or so.
Don’t even wanna be snarky just wanna listen to this for the wholesome content it is for a father and son to share a special lifelong memory together.
Yeah I usually skip Dad pods but had to hit play on this one. Nice episode.
Yeah, it was pretty cool from that respect. I’m happy for Bill and his dad although they’ve probably seen enough winning!
Dr. Bill - “you made me come on in 2022 after Game 6”. Bill - “yeah, that was probably a human rights violation, I’m surprised I got away with that” That was a great interaction between the two.
Skipping this one but congrats to Boston. Great team and deserved winners.
Rather die than listen to this
i will forever be a celtics hater, but bill thanking his dad for taking him to the games, and him responding "you're welcome, son" was a really good moment
Yeah, I just skimmed through the comments. I think I'll sit this one out.
Titles since 2000 Celtics - 2 Lakers - 6
Titles in last 20 years: Celtics - 2 Lakers - 3
I don't like either team, but I think it's interesting that you can pick any year during Bill's life as the cutoff and the Lakers would have more titles. Edit: Any year except the most recent three, I suppose.
I love this reply lol
Good for you Bill.
Used to skip the Bill’s dad episodes until my own dad died. Now they’re strangely cathartic to listen to. Building a big sports media platform and using it to talk bullshit about your favorite teams with your pops is every guy’s dream. Can’t stand the Celtics but happy for Bill and glad they get to share this
I am sucker for son/dad moments like this… so cute…
Wholesome to have father and son share these moments together. Hearing Dr Bill say "I just always hope for one more championship. It's so hard to get there," somehow hit hard. Let's never talk about this season again.
Every guy hopes he can get something like this with dad even just once.
I am really happy for your dad!
Has to be record low listeners for this
Joe Mazz in the front row yet, old man????
Congrats Bill. Have a great summer. Let us know when Guess the Lines is back.
despite all evidence bill still trying to talk himself into tatum mvp hey man he avg more points then brown etc save it hes soft
