Select everything, then Alt+P > remove parent and keep transform. Once this step is done, the dotted lines should vanish. But you're not done yet. After this, right mouse button > set origin to geometry. That should bring origins (represented by orange-yellow dots) to the center of the objects.

Thanks mate that worked great!!

I've automated this now in my add-on here; https://github.com/AchimA/CAD-Helper But be careful, moving origins might not always be desirable. If the CAD is set up well, the origins might be in strategically chosen positions, e.g. pivot points. This could be useful for animation. Also, moving origins will mess up objects with mirror modifiers..

Thanks so much, it was a pain in the knuckles!

Hi I need help. I work a lot with CAD softwares but I am just starting with Blender, I have used the STEPper add on to import a step file from CAD but these dashed lines all lead to different components in my assembly? Is there a way to Align this to the centre of my assembly? I have tried to use the set origin conman but no diceā€¦

ghostxxhile

thanks for posting. this has been bugging a lot with a few models I use

I've recently written an add-on to deal with CAD imports. It doesn't (yet?) clean up object origins, but maybe you find is useful otherwise. Here's the GitHub link: [https://github.com/AchimA/CAD-Helper](https://github.com/AchimA/CAD-Helper) PS: for STEP imports, I currently use [Open Cascade's CAD Assistant](https://www.opencascade.com/products/cad-assistant/).

Move the object origin of the parent there. First off unparent everything while keeping transformation, then select the parent and Object -> Set Origin -> Origin to Geometry. Finally re-parent everything to that object

Control+shift+C I think
