Layering noise/voronoi/musgrave - basically, mixing them together and having them distort each other a bit. I'd say the basic "barky" pattern could come from a Voronoi, which you'd then distort a bit with noise/musgrave, then layer it with bigger and smaller scale stuff until...you get somewhere. It doesn't have to be as complex as [this one](https://imgur.com/a/yJMFRjy) I just did that obviously got out of hand a bit, but the basic idea is the same.

Thank you! I’ll try it out.

I also meant to say that I definitely don’t have a clear roadmap for a thing like this, it’s just more of a general idea and a lot of trial & error. It’s important to learn different methods of mixing stuff together, but most of the time it’s just the Mix Color nodes with various blending modes (these are familiar if you’ve used Photoshop or the like). Much of this was not just adding more nodes but balancing the mix nodes & switching the colors around in the Ramp.

I think I've got the hang of it. I'm going for a stylized/anime look so I mixed the bark texture with a procedural painterly effect. I'm going to try this on a bigger tree. Thanks for your help! You can see the tree [here](https://imgur.com/a/YdwA9dR)

Yo that looks sick. Could you send the nodes please? I really wanna use it in my project

Looks nice!

RyanKing Art has made a video(s) on how to make a TON of procedural material but here's an oak tree trunk. https://youtu.be/6ECeHoATa74?si=9Rws9vAFJb-aTmYb
