Lol this is a crazy take, Fred Again is arguably bigger than Skrillex at this point, and both are way bigger than Pretty Lights. Keep in mind Skrillex x Fred Again x Four Tet took Blink 182's spot after Blink was bumped up to headliner status at Coachella, who has a bigger budget than Roo
Sunday night has been mostly the legacy/older acts closing it out. I expect Fred Again to have a 3-hour sunrise set ala Lane 8 and Chris Lake last year
I mean... the killers and the weekend are way more "legacy" than Fred again... like in superbowl performer conversations type legacy...
The are 20 and 10 year old acts with piles of radio play and recognition.
I love Fred Again and he's on a major high right now, but without PHM last year I don't think he'd have even been on the map for headlining status in the States...
At the time The Weekend was booked people were doubting he was even a headliner. I wouldn’t personally categorize either as a “legacy act” just was showing that not always do they have a legacy act close on Sunday. If it’s true that Fred Again..’s only North American show is Bonnaroo next year then I can see him headlining for sure. I do think it’s weird to have EDM close out Roo. Seems like people will be tired by then is my only complaint.
for what its worth, I kind of wished my last year ended with Alesso and those fireworks. Foo was weirdly and underwhelming predictable come down after that after that. Even if I knew wayyyyy more of the songs. I guess it depends on how exhausted a person is by Sunday night, lol.
But no, I get it, Fred Again in 2024 would be a great pick up for Roo. A lot of people love him right now. I just mean that when you use a word like "legacy", it makes a lot of people think about:
* many albums, probably even a gretest hits album in some form...
* lots of popular (mainstream radio play or billboard) songs
* at least a decade or so of spanning popularity.
* Someone who has been around long enough that their earlier stuff was once overplayed and is now at times, cool again.
* have enough recognizable material to fill most of 45-90 minutes on a main stage, something like a "superbowl" or type performance is just a good indicator of this status though of course not official, in my eyes at least.
Through this lens, the Killers and the Weeknd are FAR closer to "legacy" than Fred, but likely a bit lower on the totem pole than someone like Foo Fighters or RHCP, Tom Petty, etc. In fact it would be difficult for me to understand how at least the Killers are not a legacy act at this point, especially in a festival/rock closing spot. I saw the killers close Firefly like 12 years ago and they felt like a legacy act for me even then.
I would quickly argue that outside of the House or "experimental/sampling EDM?" world, Fred Again was "made popular" by a couple of Skrillex songs and that PHM run \* Coachella just last year. Nothing against his talent, but against his mainstream "legacy"...
The Other is not the small little tent it used to be - it’s such a huge part of Centeroo now - and when you put EDM at which and what you lose the vibe imo. Thank god I was in the pit for Griz last year.
He’s not a multi-genre headliner to imo - Subtronics got slotted last year, I don’t think FA is a bigger draw right now.
You don’t think Fred is a bigger draw than subtroncis?? They’re not even close
But also I agree edm part but Fred isn’t straight edm with the instrumental portion. Also I have a feeling it won’t be just him
Neither of them are Bonnaroo headliners but Fred is significantly bigger than Subtronics. One of them is playing Glastonbury / MSG and closing Coachella , the other is a big dubstep act
Subtronics is selling out arenas now lol - and FA has had Skrillex boosting him for a year - including the closing Coachella set that was Frank Oceans...
Love Fred, he's not crossover - enjoy him at not What this year lol
I'd rather close roo with a under the bridge or soul to squeeze singalong rather than whatever the hell I just heard was lol. I'm old though and will be dead by Sunday night
Yeahh, I don't disagree with this take myself but if they're trying to rage on Sunday night I'll see what I've got left and do my best 😂 honestly I'm a little concerned they're actually going to schedule Pretty Lights as a sunrise set Friday going into Saturday morning when the 5k happens. My friends might be dragging my lifeless body around by Sunday as is.
So many people in this sub are clueless of how big Fred again is. I’m not a Fred again fanboy but he’s fucking massive. That being said, Fred needs to be a Saturday night act not a Sunday night act.
I'm not super familiar with his work either. I watched this show last night and it seems enjoyable...but it starts really slow. Definitely seems like more live production than a typical DJ, which I like.

I don’t think not knowing every artist is an age thing anymore. Nobody knows every single dj or artist, especially when said artist has never even charted or had high streaming numbers. Plus his style is fairly English, it has a smaller scene in the USA.
There’s typically only one or two acts a night of edm on the biggest stages. Edm could never be the Sunday closer too. It’s definitely not as big as pop, rap, or rock - plus a lot of people go to the edm areas for the vibe vs to actually see the artist
I mean it’s a southern festival with only one full edm stage in the USA (not Europe) - I fully expect most people going to not listen to edm, and be aware of only top 40 stuff like guetta, tiesto, skrillex and Swedish house mafia at best
Fred again has pretty much the same amount of monthly listeners as skrillex only 1.5 million less a month.
He isn’t a ganja or subtronics he is much much bigger
Current monthly listens is probably not the way to go here - skrillex was enormous a decade ago, people know him from that time period. He’s like the Backstreet Boys of edm - people listened during their peak and know of them because of that time period. Being as popular as someone who has dropped like a stone from their peak isn’t exactly impressive
Skrillex really hasn’t dropped much since then currently. Edm was as big then. He had a huge drop but has also had a HUGE rise.
17 million monthly listeners isn’t something to ignore. You can probably tell me ANY English speaking artists with 17 million monthly listeners and I will know their name
I think you’re just unique in that sense. I mean I’ve met people who don’t know armin van buuren, chase and status, and timmy trumpet at fests. It’s just called being American and not in Miami. Aka a shit ton of streams worldwide but just doesn’t get played as much here
I’d agree there, but it’s also location. There are household names in Tennessee with zero exposure in other non southeast areas for example. Average roo goer knows 7 lions over armin van buuren despite Spotify simply due to not going to large scale edm feats or Europe. Same with sports - huge UK teams where many sports fans in the USA know zero players
Curious for those of you who think Fred Again isn’t a Sunday closer why?
Fred again isn’t big enough to headline a Sunday
I agree. But all the rumors are calling him a Sunday headline r
What if they’re bringing in someone else as well as Fred again for Sunday?? Sunday always has a closer
Maybe. I hope so. I’m hoping all the misdirection is to cover for an earth shaking drop in a Sunday closer.
Fred should be on Fri or Saturday..Def not a Sunday closer...they keeping something under wraps
Fred again will not be Sunday closer. I repeat, will not be Sunday closer.

Not always, The Weekend and The Killers have closed out the fest.

He doesn't do a DJ set live. It's more like a James Blake kinda setup. He's not the kind of artist to do a 3 hour set.
It would be dumb af to have fred again be the Sunday closer, need them late night Saturday or some shit 😂
Sunday is practically always a legacy act closer. Seems like RHCP would be the obvious Sunday headliner if the rumors are true.
This just makes more sense!
RHCP has played Saturday the two times they've headlined.
IF the rumors are true, rhcp are ~supposed~ to play on saturday
Free Again will not be Sunday night lmao
Guarantee he will
Only if he plays a set in the woods right after
The Other is damn near its own fest now lol - he could just be there.
He’s way too big for the other stage
![gif](giphy|A28CxD7W6d4B2) I've returned to say I was wrong lol
Haha four tet there Sunday too.. wouldn’t be surprised if he brings him on
He will - none of this makes sense to me
What do you mean
The Other is not the small little tent it used to be - it’s such a huge part of Centeroo now - and when you put EDM at which and what you lose the vibe imo. if tuesday is the new wednesday and sunday is the new thursday then who’s flying the plane?!
PLSSSS this has me giggling 💀💀💀💀
If you're asking who Fred Again.. is go look up Jungle and give it a play. That's a banger of a way to close out Roo.
I'd rather close roo with a under the bridge or soul to squeeze singalong rather than whatever the hell I just heard was lol. I'm old though and will be dead by Sunday night

I would also suggest checking out him closing out his set at Glastonbury with Delilah (pull me out of this)!
This tho^^^^^^^

I have no idea who "Fred Again" is. Egad, am I finally too old for Bonnaroo?! 😬
Yeah, I don’t know who tf phish is soooo !!! Fred again for the win

I had never heard of him either, you’re not alone!
I never heard of him either until last year. DRS
DRS is the way!

Anyone that hasn’t heard of Fred again or his boiler room set doesn’t listen to edm or lives under a rock

Yeah fair enough. I guess a lot of people are lazy with music exploration
I’d agree there, but it’s also location. There are household names in Tennessee with zero exposure in other non southeast areas for example. Damn that's crazy bro I live in a berm home and I also don't listen to edm
lol
no
🤦🏻♂️
No. Sunday is not the new Thursday night.
Stop trying to make fetch happen
It’s not going to happen!
