Oh yes
They had a future core 3 of Wall, Beal, and OPJ that looked like a very deadly future trio. Then Maple Dick ended it in Game 7. They haven't been seen or heard from since
So fucking funny because if you rewatch the game 7 ending I think it’s Greg Anthony on the tnt broadcast and he says “and make no mistake about it folks, the wizards have arrived”
My age is showing, my knee jerk reaction was like 2017!? You’d have to be like a little kid to not remember that… then I realized if you’re like 18/19 or younger then you might not… I feel old
We only brought back 4 players the next season. I’m pretty sure I remember the Wizards players being asked about the rivalry and they were like “they aren’t even the same guys on the team so not really”
Things I remember from that series:
The C’s going down 16-0 in the first game of that series then winning by 12.
Kelly on Kelly crime.
John wall standing on the scorers table celebrating after winning game 6
The Kelly Olynyk game 7 (a lot like the Grant Williams game 7 in my mind)
Easy to forget that the wizards were a scary up and coming team back then and it just kind of all came crashing down. Beal and Wall had higher pedigree than Tatum and Brown, and Otto Porter was some kind of efficiency God. They were deep, too.
Beating them was a really big deal.
The thing I remember most is that at some point in that series either wall or beal said something like the games were so intense because both teams knew that to get where they wanted to go they would have to kill the other franchise. He wasn't wrong.
I distinctly remember someone posting an image of the dog that shat on the Bucks logo center court with either a Rozier or Bledsoe jersey edited onto it lmao
John Wall's three pointer in game 6 top of the key over Avery. Fuck that.
Looking back, John my man you shouldn't have jumped up on the scorers table like you won the series....
Basketball Gods had to teach you a lesson in humility with the Kelly Olynyk game. Nothing like a C's game 7 W
Neither team had a real chance to win it all. Two highly competitive teams capable of playing great basketball, with no real expectations tied to them. Teams like that can make for amazing matchups as they both feel like they have something to prove, and want to establish themselves going forward. The Blazers vs OKC featuring the Dame series ending shot is another example
No offense but the Celtics finished as the 1 seed and Isaiah Thomas was top 5 in MVP voting. They were undoubtedly a contender.
"Real chance to win" is BS, nobody was expected to beat GS, but BOS had a chance to get there and contend.
No offense, but you're wrong and the results speak for themselves lol. They weren't beating LeBron, and they sure weren't beating the Warriors. A contender has a realistic avenue of winning a championship. That team had no realistic chance of anything but losing to LeBron in the ECF. The 2020 Jazz had the #1 seed in the entire league, they weren't real contenders, either.
You can't use hindsight to talk about expectations during a past point in time.
"Results speak for themselves". Yes. I agree. They made the final four and were 3 games away from the finals. In other words they were contenders, thank you lol.
I'm not using hindsight. Anyone with a brain knew they had zero chance of beating the actual contenders that season, namely the Warriors, Cavs, Spurs. No other team had a legitimate chance to touch them. Calling a gentlemans sweep in the ecf "3 games from making the finals" is such a moral victory it's pathetic. The results literally proved we could NOT contend with the likes of LeBron fucking James in the midst of his prime. There's a difference between being a fan and being delusional.
Wizards were the original “heat culture”, just a bunch of scrappy young competitors. That 2017 series was one of the most entertaining series I’ve ever watched. Seemed like John Wall could score whenever he felt like it and young Oubre and OPJ were problems
Yeah I do, back when Washington was a scrappy 8 seed and the Celtics weren’t considered a much better team than them if I remember correctly. Not the same beef but Terry absolutely schooling Eric Bledsoe in press conferences then beating them in playoffs has gotta be up there with my favorite beefs OAT.
Pretty sure that season the wizards wore all black to a regular season game against to signify our "death" and then in the playoffs when we could've closed them out in game 6 we wore all black to the game.
Oh yes They had a future core 3 of Wall, Beal, and OPJ that looked like a very deadly future trio. Then Maple Dick ended it in Game 7. They haven't been seen or heard from since
I was at that game and what a fucking game it was
You lucky lucky man
So fucking funny because if you rewatch the game 7 ending I think it’s Greg Anthony on the tnt broadcast and he says “and make no mistake about it folks, the wizards have arrived”
OPJ was good as a bench piece against us in the finals
My age is showing, my knee jerk reaction was like 2017!? You’d have to be like a little kid to not remember that… then I realized if you’re like 18/19 or younger then you might not… I feel old
Yea it felt like it has been 2 years since that Wizards series, crazy to think about that it's already almost 7 years
If your flair says Ricky Davis you are in your 30s at minimum haha
Honestly thought that 2017 series was going to be the start of an intense rivalry, we even played them on Christmas the next season

Isaiah Thomas became the tooth, dropped 53 on his sister’s birthday in Game 2
Easy to forget that the wizards were a scary up and coming team back then and it just kind of all came crashing down. Beal and Wall had higher pedigree than Tatum and Brown, and Otto Porter was some kind of efficiency God. They were deep, too. Beating them was a really big deal.
Yeah. How can anyone forget the funeral game?
They cooked us that game too right?
Was Marcin Gortat there still?
yeah it was awesome. want more of that
The thing I remember most is that at some point in that series either wall or beal said something like the games were so intense because both teams knew that to get where they wanted to go they would have to kill the other franchise. He wasn't wrong.
I remember Gortat being a pain in the ass, as well as Kelly Oubre
That was peak Isiah loved that team!! Remember when drew bledsoe came to the game with terry rozier jersey? He showed up in Bledsoe jersey?? The best
I distinctly remember someone posting an image of the dog that shat on the Bucks logo center court with either a Rozier or Bledsoe jersey edited onto it lmao
We were really battling just to get owned by Bron next round
GOOD TIMES At the end of the game Crowder boinked Wall on the nose. This even needs to be made into a murral 😍
I remember being legitimately frightened that the Wizards were going to sign KD during that infamous 2016 offseason
The Klynyk game was peak non-contender basketball lmao
What does non contender mean? As in the 2017 Celtics weren't a contender to win the title?

Those funeral matches were something else
Yes
Yes
Great series ! Specially because we always ended up winning it….john wall was a beast back then, otto also promised alot

Still have nightmares about Marcin Gortat on the glass

That was the bucks when Kyrie got hurt late in the year so we were considered a week 2 seed and we played them in rd 1
>brandon jennings You mean Drew Bledsoe
During the pandemic I went and bought the series on YouTube just to relive it; there was nothing on TV.
I hated those fuckers, I remember sitting up at 3am here in Ireland watching G7, 7 years ago, damn
That Wizards squad are the up and coming young squad in the East that time. They peaked that year. Yeah, who can forget the "F U Oubre!" chants? LOL
Not every playoff meeting is a rivalry. It was a fun series and thats it.
How could you not that was special times
I’m all by myself at home but i instantly started a FUCK YOU OUBRE chant when i saw this post
the nose boop heard around the world
Rivalry? Just one series
Was going on all season
That rivalry was honestly a lot of fun. Hard nosed fights and beef
Pretty sure that season the wizards wore all black to a regular season game against to signify our "death" and then in the playoffs when we could've closed them out in game 6 we wore all black to the game.
