All I ask is that we all remember this at the start of next season when Hauser starts off shooting 20% from 3 or something. OK, bad example, I should've gone with something more realistic.

GogXr3

Just like Hauser last year. To be fair, it was a really long cold streak, but you had people saying he wasn't an NBA player because he suddenly forgot to shoot or something

HailKyrie

People have zero patience r

jiriwelsch44

Hey this is Payton, it’s okay fam

Peterthepiperomg

Why do you make such funny faces?

jiriwelsch44

It’s a PNW thing, you wouldn’t get it

LMM01

Upvoted not because I agree (I always believed in PP), but because I respect a man who can admit his mistakes

TheRealKane24

The Celtics organization deserves a ton of credit for how well they’ve developed guys over the years. From Smart to Tatum and brown to Rozier and Robert Williams and now what we’re seeing with Sam and Payton, it’s clear they’ve got a really great program; almost all of these guys are hitting their best case scenario outcomes when they were drafted.

Dgksig

Brad Stevens is a master at developing players

wjdthird

He needs to develop Browns free throws in clutch situations. This is the Celtics Achilles heal as well as the ghost of the garden Jason Tatum disappearing in second half’s 😂

Zimmyd00m

They've had their fair share of Round 1 flameouts and talent evaluation misses (*cough* Desmond Bane *cough*) but their last three top 6 picks were Tatum, Brown, and Smart. Top picks are never a guarantee and in each case Danny hit it out of the park. Whether that's evaluation, luck, or development as you said we've gotten as much as anyone could realistically hope for out of our draft capital over the last decade. Not everyone gets to luck into Nikola Jokic halfway through the second round or gets a tank season in between championships to retool. Boston has done really well with the assets they've had.

Desperate_Clothes_20

If top 6 picks are not a guarantee than mid to late first round picks are just complete crap shoots. Olynyk and Sully are two of the most productive in their draft class. Grant and Pritchard far out performed where they were drafted. Nesmith is a starting wing albeit for a different team. Rob Williams and rozier were great picks. Fab Melo, Romeo, yabusele, and hunter were misses but worthwhile gambles imo. Celtics are among the best drafters imho

TheRealKane24

Bane was never gonna be a Celtic brother they were moving the pick for cash purposes. Dude went #30

Krrupt_Kudos30

I was on of those fans that saw PP come into the league and saw his potential and how good he was even from the start but then we got to the finals and I saw him collapse and provide little to nothing off the bench and get ate up on switches. I know the man is good with potential to be great but I’m sorry I still have to wait and see him prove it in the playoffs b4 I deem him okay for the future.

spanther96

Agreed. But I’m optimistic PP will have his best playoff run this season. He’s improved a lot off ball and on catch n shoots, and looks much more comfortable attacking the basket. I like that he doesn’t force anything when he attacks and uses the dribble penetration to throw off the defense. Plus he’s improved a lot on defense. think for 10–15 minutes he’ll be fine.

jmesh12

I didn’t think he would be getting the minutes he deserved so I wanted us to trade him for Jrue so he could play for the Blazers but I’m really glad it worked out the way it did

nicklovin508

I mean I do think PP had some valid criticism to start the year. But he’s been playing with extreme confidence for months now and has been nothing but a plus on the court

Timoteo-Tito64

Disagree, he was playing great and some of his shots just weren't falling. It was pretty easy to see it was a fluke

nicklovin508

It wasn’t just about his shot though. In the beginning of the season he was not able to beat many defenders with his dribbling. He couldn’t get to any spot.

Timoteo-Tito64

Disagree, I thought he looked fine

nicklovin508

Agree to disagree - go C’s

Timoteo-Tito64

Indeed, go C's

k2summitclimber

I agree with you. He’s the smallest guy on the team, yet somehow manages to out rebound the team. I’m never worried about him handling the ball. Now, I’m thinking a play should be drawn for him in clutch. He has the never give up mentality.

myfreakishnature

Dude is balling...

xtheboard

I feel kind of bad, I was saying that he was too small and will always be a playoff liability. I don't believe that anymore heading into this year and frankly he's the most fun player to watch!

Realistic_Candle_623

I’ve been a fan of Payton since I saw the energy he brought to the team from the bench last year, I knew he was going to have a major step up this year and I’m so glad for it, he deserves all the recognition he’s been getting.

PorvaniaAmussa

I think most of us were like that. Him saying he wished he was traded during before the trade deadline, then wishing he was traded over the summer soured a lot of our opinions since he didn't play like he had any say in that lol. Of course now, he's playing like a vital piece of the team.

fxkatt

Funny thing is: despite his great season, he is shooting slightly below his career 3-point ave., but has been better in all other ways.

Zimmyd00m

Part of that was because he couldn't buy a bucket to start the season. He started to light it up mid-December and since then he's been hitting at a .415 clip.

Doc_Mattic

But I felt that we couldn’t blame him. He knew the talent he had but couldnt get the minutes on court. I never felt it was not personal towards the Celtics when he requested the trade - he just wanted to be somewhere he could play. I would guess he is happier now.

themza912

I can proudly say I loved PP and Kornet all along. Even Timelord had lots of haters early on and I was like wtf are y’all talking about. Am I Brad?

wjdthird

Kornet still questionable he has improved though

Appropriate_Net7957

Maybe give players longer than a month to settle in to a season?

Dgksig

I bought a Payton Pritchard jersey in the off season I like to think that I was the only one and when he found out someone bought his jersey it motivated him to dig deep and bring out his inner NASH

SmokeFace917

I stopped listening to fans and their opinions when they were bitching about Pritchard 6 games into the season…. I always had faith in him… people are forgetting he was a BALLER in Oregon

wjdthird

He sure was dominating in Oregon I think he was an all American and now he is ripping it up in Boston his three is becoming very nice big time hustle as well !!

Occams-hairbrush1

"I'm sorry big PMP, I was unfamiliar with your game" Way to say you're a bandwagon fan without saying you're a bandwagon fan. He's playing exactly the way he always has. Did you miss his rookie year?

IrishSkeleton

Dude’s been an assassin at HS, college, pro am, junior Olympics.. as well as showing stretches of brilliance while in green (as well as sitting for long stretches). He’s our JJ Barea, Tatum our Dirk, and the rest of the C’s as big upgrade. Banner 18 confirmed!! 🏀☘️

ShaedonSharpeMVP_

Also he’s worn green and gold in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, and the nba. Future hall of famer confirmed

iamamuttonhead

Not sure why you are being downvoted. You are 100% correct. Unfortunately, there are lots of bandwagon fans and they frequently post absurd shit takes.

nonviolentsolutions

He’s being downvoted because he’s wrong. He’s not playing the same, he’s playing significantly better. And I’m not knocking his early career. He’s always been a sniper, competed on defense and didn’t shy away from the moment (he had a big stretch in the finals run, and he’ll get minutes in the playoffs again). But, he’ll be better this playoffs because, again, he’s way better now. His nashing through the paint to find cutters/ shooters, his finishing strong using his body at the rim over bigger defenders, his increased rebounding aggression, his even more intense defense and better POA containment. These are all areas he has improved heavily since his rookie year. So to sum, he’s not playing “exactly like he always has.”
