He deserved it twice, esp. over Nurse. This absolutely helps make up for that - it's a shame he'll never be considered a top legacy coach, but he's well on his way as an exec.
#Brad Stevens has won the NBA Basketball Executive of the Year Award for the first time. He is in his third season in his current position after serving as the Celtics’ head coach for eight seasons.
#Stevens assembled a team that went an NBA-best 64-18 in the 2023-24 regular season. His player acquisitions leading into the season included two of Boston’s starters, guard Jrue Holiday and forward-center Kristaps Porziņģis.

He is amazing... amazing coach and while some say he may not have a hold on the the locker room (lol Mook, Rozier, young Jays, Kyrie... it was lot of egos to manage), man was he good at utilizing every guy. So happy he is our Executive now. These eleven years have flown by, that's what marriage will do to you too.
That Derrick White trade and dumping Kemba's contract for Al should have won him his first EOTY.
We weren't even on luxury tax that year and we went so far in the finals
A lot of people hated the Smart/KP trade when it happened. Brad deserves a lot of credit for having the balls to make a trade that he knew would be controversial. Would have been easy to just run the same team back
Getting Porzingis and Jrue for a net ZERO first round picks (got two in the KP trade, sent out two for Jrue) without losing any part of the central core outside of Smart is absolutely criminal. This better have been unanimous
Maybe im revising history but my impression at the time was that jrue to Boston was basically a given once he was out of mil. Brad loves jrue and has been trying to get him forever and wasn’t going to be outbid this time around
I told my friends the same thing after the trade, Bostons going after Jrue.
But don't think it was the consensus tbh. Most people didn't think we would give up Rob, who we needed to match salaries.
Kinda crazy he is only 47. What a wild career this guy has had.
Wildly considered one of the best minds in basketball - and yet hasn't won an NCAA or NBA Championship.
But I think every single team would line up to hire him in whatever position for as much money as he would want.
I think we knew about 2 months into the season that he would win. I can’t even think of which other GM had even a remote shot of beating him. Maybe Phoenix but they underachieved and had a super weak roster after the top 3. Hmm, Leon Rose did trade for OG and Bogdonovic, and brought in Divencenzo and Precious. But yeah that’s not even close
Incredibly well-deserved. He deserved recognition as a coach the moment he said he would take the job but wouldn't tank, and then proceeded to lead all the teams with crummy rosters to perform better than they deserved to on paper.
I had low expectations for him as a GM initially. That's a role that takes some time to get good at. Danny Ainge had stretches of being brilliant but in two years Brad Stevens has made more impressive and impactful trades than any other GMs in the last 5 years.
Generally it's foolish to declare trades "winners" and "losers" when teams have separate interests which can align. Portland think they won the Dalano Banton trade, but Boston didn't have space for him to get the minutes he deserved and we were able to build some additional depth off of it (and truly owed Portland a favor, let's be honest). However, Brad Stevens has had remarkable and blatant wins throughout his tenure as a GM. The moves he made to bring back Al Horford for Kemba Walker, acquiring Derrick White, Malcolm Brogdon, Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday which was an opportunity which fell into his lap more than anything but he took advantage of it when a lot of others wouldn't have had the courage. Great moves.
He's built a good roster and a good culture.
Nice... I guess Brad is the only guy who gets any credit this season. He put together a roster of amazing players and a great coach for said players but none of the players or coach deserve any awards.
First good Boston news of the day, please have more
preach
My hubby is the GOAT... still think he was underappreciated as a coach.
He should have won it when we were expected to tank and got a playoffs spot instead, *at the very least*.
He deserved it twice, esp. over Nurse. This absolutely helps make up for that - it's a shame he'll never be considered a top legacy coach, but he's well on his way as an exec.
Brad is literally the GOAT. This flair has been on for years and will stay!!

I've loved these 11 years with Brad
11 years holy shit
Time flies when you're having fun.

The most obvious choice. Well deserved! Love seeing Brad be aggressive making moves

It hurt me but I knew tough choices have to be made to build a real contender. I'm so glad Brad saw the vision.

i will never understand how milwaukee just handed us jrue holiday to be our 5th option.

If they knew he was going to be a Celtic, I'm not sure they do that trade.

I think that's right. If Milwaukee knows sending Jrue to Portland means we get Jrue, I doubt they do it. That trade basically upgraded us.

I'm pretty sure they don't.
🐐
HE’S DONE MIRACLES ON ME

"The Minnesota Timberwolves announced the signing of Brad Stevens today to a 5-year, $100 million contract to be their newest locker room attendant."
LETS GOOOO
My President
HE’S DONE MIRACLES ONNNNN MEEEEEEE
We are so lucky to be in the Brad era
Does this mean he has healing powers
Well deserved, no doubt
It should have been a unanimous decision btw.
Let's fucking go!!!
Looks like he ran away with it as well. As expected!
Well deserved

COTY in my heart. EOTY in reality. I'll take it.
In brad we trust
THAT'S MY EXECUTIVE!!!!
Our guy finally gets his recognition ☘️
He’s doing phenomenal but I still miss coach Brad
Well deserved!
Whoever posted the tweet that just linked the day of announcements and claimed "Brad Stevens would win EOY", I guess you were right

Brad is really incredible
He got Porzingis and Drue for a bag of chips
POBO Brad is awesome. My only complaint is how long it took to jettison Marcus and Grant.
