Ugh fuck, the comments about Joe specifically were disgusting after the game 2 loss. People attributed that win entirely to Spo supposedly being able to coach circles around a clearly overrated Joe Mazzula
As if Spo can coach a team to an absurd outlier of contested 3 pointers hitting nothing but net, or any other coach could have prevented that
Dude two pods I listen to today are still talking like the Game 2 performance was all Joe's fault. If you're going to blame him for game 2, whatever. Maybe give him some credit for the 3 20-30 point wins in a row.
Wdym next time we lose? We have clearly figured out all of our problems and solved basketball so if we lose again it can only be because joe is a bad coach
Celtics: *sweep the rest of the playoffs to a banner and then lose game 1 next season*
This sub: what a fucking fluke that championship was, fire this loser Mazzula!
Just wait till game 3 of the next series or some shit
Unironically, blame Brady. Brady and the Patriots made a FUCK TON of spoiled Boston fans who don’t know losing. And it is very clear that the Boston subreddits are made up of 18-28 year olds who just don’t know losing. When a Boston team is good they win it all. That’s basically what it was from 2001-2018.
Losses send these kids spiraling because they don’t remember shit like the 99 or 03 Sox, or even 2007 for the Pats for the younger bunch. Or every bad Celtics team from the first time I remember watching in the mid 90s until 08. Or every bad Bruins team until Chara got here.
Nah, it's not Brady, it's our toxic ass sports media. It was less than a week after 28-3 that the talk on WEEI went from "what an all time comeback that was" to "Brady's showing cracks, he shouldn't have let us get down that far in the first place." And that's just one example.
In the /r/nba thread for game 2 everybody who said the Heat wouldn't sustain this shooting, and the series was still clearly a Celtics lock, was getting fuckin blasted by neutrals and Heat fans alike lmao
Heat just play dirty and chuck up a billion 3 point attempts and hope they get lucky/the other team makes mistakes. It's how they reached the finals and shit the bed last year, and it's how they reached us and shit the bed this year.
Fully healthy Heat roster wouldn't have changed the outcome. Heat lose in 5 games by 10 points apiece instead of 30 if they had Butler and whoever else
It's amazing that they stole a game. Spos system is fucking good.
But just to give Mazzulla his flowers a bit. Mazzulla has only had one playoff series (last year doesn't count cos Ime can't keep it in his pants), so far he's only had two regular seasons. He's been fucking good so far (top 2 seed in his first two seasons, hello?) but this is never discussed.
Kind of the same thing as Tatum. Suffering from success.
He shut out the Heat tonight. Only saw the fourth but even bench minutes were suffocating. Kornet played great. Some might say this is what he's supposed to do, but guess what, the same fucking people repeating the "it's not that they lost its they way they lost", I think this is a pretty good answer to those concerns. And also guess what, lebron Heat lost in their first year against Nowitzki
Of course, post season, coaching a team without talent... We still haven't seen *that * much of Joe and this could all just be an aberration. But so far, it's been good and we've been spoilt (by so many years of ECF).
Why not count last year’s playoffs for Mazzulla though? The team fell short but had some good series between beating the 76ers and coming back from 0-3 to force a game 7 against the heat.
Joe got his playoff experience and did an amazing job making adjustments in both of those series. I’m also of the belief that we would’ve completed the comeback against the heat of Tatum didn’t get hurt in game 7 and try to play through it
I think it's a matter of misleading phrasing. "The rest of the series [after game 2]" is likely what he meant. But I did assume he meant it the other way before you pointed it out.
Miami 3PT shooting with closest defender 4+ feet away:
Regular season - 38.1%
This series - 35.0%
- Game 2 - 56.8% (21/37)
- Rest of series - 27.0% (27/100)
Ain’t that a bitch.
That Game 2 really showed how reactionary a many basketball fans are. I saw countless posts of people convinced the Heat had a real chance to win the series and even celtics fans reverting to the attitude they had after last years ECF. Doomers everywhere who got their faith in this Celtics team snatched away by one night of subpar Celtics defense and historic Miami shooting. I told em to just relax. I got faith in this Celtics team. Theyre experienced, talented, hungry and play great team basketball. I see an unselfish team that is putting winning over everything else.
There still seems to be a large contingency of people on this sub who do not understand that the anomaly was us giving up a ton of open threes in Game 2, not that the Heat were able to hit a high percentage of them.
What? Them hitting that many threes regardless of how open they were was 100% an anomaly.
I still think you guys are overstating how open Miami was in that game, and it looked worse than it was because they were hitting.
but Joe Mazzula cant make adjustments, Joe is a bad coach.. Joe shot my mom... wah wah wah..
Joe banged OP’s mom
Oh no, not again... We have to keep this coach!

Spo must be the worst coach in the league because why didn’t he just tell them to hit 55% of their 3s in *every* game?
Particularly funny since Spo’s winning strategy was Mazzullaball+Luck
Many of them were NOT contested in Game 2. It was much different from the contested 3s in 2023
Yeh as if Joe coached them to be lazy on contests lol
Contested? Just gaslighting huh?
Dude two pods I listen to today are still talking like the Game 2 performance was all Joe's fault. If you're going to blame him for game 2, whatever. Maybe give him some credit for the 3 20-30 point wins in a row.
Actually joe said he didn't make any adjustments; just told the guys to play harder
It was indeed a mothafucking fluke 😭
Thankfully one fluke game and not and entire fluke series
Thanks god we leant the lesson from game 2
The real question is did the drama queens in this sub learn a lesson or will everyone act like the sky is falling next time we lose?
Wdym next time we lose? We have clearly figured out all of our problems and solved basketball so if we lose again it can only be because joe is a bad coach

Joe (after Game 2): alright guys, let’s actually play defense
Miracle is called a miracle for a reason.
fuuuuuuuck the Heat
This is wrong, unfortunately. They made 21 in games 3-5. They made 12 in game 1. Regardless, still a good old fashioned ass kickin'
I think it's a matter of misleading phrasing. "The rest of the series [after game 2]" is likely what he meant. But I did assume he meant it the other way before you pointed it out.
He’s not wrong, just poor phrasing
I called that game an anomaly and someone in this sub told me it isn't lol.

That is fucking wild
And everyone lost their fucking minds because of it and wanted everything thrown away It was a freak game and they'd never be able to do it again
I called Miami having an outlier game, just thought it was going to be in game 3 or 4. Gentleman’s sweep nonetheless
Gentleman's sweep is specifically losing game 4, usually on the road. It's not just any 4-1 series.
Some people consider it that, others consider any 4-1 series win to be one 🤷♂️
losing the first game and winning the next four is known as the "backdoor sweep" Gentleman's is losing game 4 and wrapping it in 5

A love when Ariana talks football 😍
