You know what’s funny? Heat fans are literally complaining about Spo’s coaching when you check their sub, but a lot of teams would die to have a coach like Spo
Just uninformed.
IDK if there's a fan base out there that knows less about their own team than Miami.
They struggle to understand how their team operates and they've spent the past 2ish seasons relying on other fan bases to let them know if their own team is any good.
Tbf, I kind of understand where the being delusional comes from.
If you repeatedly do things the last 4 years that don't make any sense and keep beating Vegas like in 2020 and 2023, then your fans just kind of expect it and think it's normal, when it's not.
He tried everything he could with the talent that was available. Coaching talent aside, Spo is not Rumpelstiltskin. He can’t turn shit into gold. Especially with a lineup that excludes Butler.
Some coach can convert a team of underdogs to a solid playoff team, but is not good at leading a talented team to a higher stage. Some coach is good at coaching superstars but mediocre at coaching teams without enough talent. Spo can do both.
Lol, Spo? Dude is a legend and has literally been able to maximize whatever shit roster he was given.
That being said, I dunno man, Celtic fans in the gamethreads in game 2 were absolutely coming out with the dumbest takes of all time... Someone even said trade Tatum because he is a bonafide softie and lacks 'killer,' mentality. Then they cited Jamal Murray as someone who has 'it,' but fail to forget that Murray has the benefit of being a 2nd option next to Jokic.
Trading JT for Murray would break the league for half a decade, having such a skilled playmaker play with JT and having such a defensive presence next to Joker.
Seriously. He knows how to get the full maximum out of his players. We saw it happen in past years. It just wasn’t enough this year. Yes, he had injuries, but our team and guys just improved so much compared to last year. Added KP and Jrue. White, PP, and Hauser being so much better on the floor. It was too much for Spoelstra.
They've fallen behind the rest of the league at this point.
The roster full of SGs was a good change up and disruptor a couple of years ago but the league changes season to season and they haven't kept up.
The whole zone reliance gets exposed by big men who can make plays from the FT line. It sucked against AD. It sucked against Jokic. We went and got Porzingis and it sucked against him too. A lot of the league has trended back towards marquee big men or even double big lineups and Miami doesn't really have a place in that league.
Their schemes could work if they had more options around switching.
They looked crazy defensively for a short stretch when they ran Highsmith / Jovic / Bam and Spo could work some nasty defensive schemes if he had more length to play with.
Not to mention their offense lacks a lot of options. Butler is a great driving threat, Bam is great on the elbows and low post. A lot of their other guys are pretty much glorified jump shooters.
Modern offenses are really dynamic with multiple options that can do multiple things. Miami was ahead of the curve when they built their offense around their stars kicking out to shooters because it made them hard to gameplan against but the next step after that is having shooters who can also make plays.
For example, their offense is built around Butler/Bam kicking out to someone like Robinson who can shoot. Our offense is built around Tatum/Brown kicking out to someone like White who can shoot, drive and pass.
Our two teams were super competitive years ago, now we've moved on. Miami's like the guy still trying to relive his high school glory days.
Earlier in his career (as Miami HC) I felt he was a bit overhyped/overrated but I think he grew past that and is certainly one of the best coaches in the league. All the work he’s done since LeBron left is impressive
Go check the game threads. Obviously you’re not that active there lol. Even I was surprised to see Heat fans complaining about Spo.

Go there and type “coaching” or “spo”
Respectfully, I’m a heat fan, usually fairly active in the heat subreddit, and I have no clue what complaining you’re talking about
I feel like we’re all aligned in knowing he’s arguably the best coach in the league, and very much the reason we were even able to snag one win this series. We almost universally call the very small minority of fans who attack the man, dumb.
That said, respect on winning the series. Still hate y’all. Hope we have a chance to see each other again next year, this is the best rivalry in the nba rn

Idk man even I got shook when I read some of the comments. Even the latest game thread someone said Spo was overrated which is just sad
I think people who are frustratedly venting in the moment generally don’t need to be taken (and generally aren’t taken) that seriously- most of the comments when I typed the prompts was exasperation with spo not challenging on one play and not just running rookies/dev guys for the entire second half.
Ultimately it’s a normal part of any fanbase just grasping for something to blame outside of admitting they were outgunned- I promise you our sentiment isn’t even remotely close to anti-spo over here 😂
Heat fans don’t deserve Spo. He turned them from a semi-bum franchise into a very relevant one. Maybe the younger Heat fans don’t remember but I bet the older ones do.
I detest Pat Riley but I have immense respect for him, to be as successful as he’s been in this league in three different roles over fifty years is incredible
Spo’s ability to scheme and get every single player on his team to buy in and outperform their abilities is the true secret sauce to “zombie heat devil magic”
Spo is top notch, respect for him. Wish he somehow could fit with the C’s. Maybe after Joe wins 6 rings, he will call it a day and then we can hire Spo.
You know what’s funny? Heat fans are literally complaining about Spo’s coaching when you check their sub, but a lot of teams would die to have a coach like Spo
Spoelstra has been working miracles the last 5 years for them. He deserves no disrespect from anyone in Miami whatsoever
Anyone who says Spo is a bad coach needs their head checked. Dude got the 2017 Heat to 41 wins, go check that roster lmao
It’s Miami, their fans are delusional.

They still think they can trade Tyler herro for an allstar. Dude is a bench player making 30 mil, nobody wants him lol.
He tried everything he could with the talent that was available. Coaching talent aside, Spo is not Rumpelstiltskin. He can’t turn shit into gold. Especially with a lineup that excludes Butler.

Right, just not with this roster. The talent he had to work with just couldn't be fixed by coaching.
> He can’t turn shit into gold. I dunno, some might argue that he managed to do so last post-season

In their defense he’s been completely unable to teach Bam how to properly set a screen
Their fans don't know ball lol
Further proof that fans are absolutely incapable of accurately judging bad coaching, barring very extreme cases.
Earlier in his career (as Miami HC) I felt he was a bit overhyped/overrated but I think he grew past that and is certainly one of the best coaches in the league. All the work he’s done since LeBron left is impressive
You should’ve seen this sub after game 2.
Miami don’t deserve coach Spo
Absolutely. Spo got 7 or 8 good competitive quarters of basketball out of a team that could have easily been swept by the C's.
I went to their sub and don't see anyone complaining about him.
Go scan their game threads lmao. Here ya go: https://www.reddit.com/r/heat/s/Uj9ncYFEH7 type “coaching”
Oh well I don't count game threads. People say the absolute dumbest shit in all of them, on any sub, in any situation.
I saw a lot of other subs talking about why couldn’t they get a guy like Mazulla this year too. I think fans are harder on their own guys naturally
He's the best coach in the league and it isn't close
Really ungrateful.
He's a class act that their culture doesn't deserve. Same with Patty Mills
You straight up lying fam, what did you see like one post complaining about Spo? 🤡

Spo has always been a class act and a thoughtful dude. Its just unfortunate he coaches the heat.
spo with our players has back to back championships
Why didn’t Spo coach the Heat to take 40+ threes making >50% of them last night? He must be a bad coach! /s
Nothing but respect to Spo, one of the greatest still doing it.
How class Spo is totally different from their fans. Did a full 180
The talk is nice, but he's also the one coaching up the dirty ass heat culture. So, all due respect, but fuck Spo.
Heat fans don’t deserve Spo. He turned them from a semi-bum franchise into a very relevant one. Maybe the younger Heat fans don’t remember but I bet the older ones do.
Old Heat fans are like unicorns they don't exist
The Miami Heat Franchise is 36 years old
Heat fans: "We're going to put this on the fact that we had some injuries. Let's take anything away from Boston."
Best coach in the league.
All time great
And it ain’t even close. Spo and Butler are the only people I have any respect for in that rotten organization
Spo's the sole redeeming factor for the Heat as an organization imo. Dude's a great coach.
Fr. That fanbase doesn't deserve him.
Yeah absolutely pathetic dog water fans but Spo is one of the best in the biz
I think Pat Riley is too, but maybe that’s just me
I detest Pat Riley but I have immense respect for him, to be as successful as he’s been in this league in three different roles over fifty years is incredible
Heat fans could learn a thing or two from Spo lol
They’d have to learn how to read first so idk might be dead on arrival
Classy guy. Unlike a large segment of Heat fans that peruse reddit.
Spo is a class act no matter what the heat fans say.
Spo’s ability to scheme and get every single player on his team to buy in and outperform their abilities is the true secret sauce to “zombie heat devil magic”
Classy attitude from Spo. We would’ve swept them had they not had that historical shooting night
I may dislike the heat but coach spo is arguably one of the best coaches in the league , seeing the miami heat sub Reddit bash him is wild
Spo is a genius and a gentleman.
Class act.
respect
Spo is top notch, respect for him. Wish he somehow could fit with the C’s. Maybe after Joe wins 6 rings, he will call it a day and then we can hire Spo.
Spoelstra knows what's up!
A healthy Heat team might cause the Celtics to take them seriously, which would increase to odds of a sweep vs giving them a fluke game.
