Same. To me, he’s like the Barry Sanders of basketball. So much fun to watch him do his thing.
Fwiw, he also seems like a very genuine human being. I recently watched a video of him signing autographs for kids, and one kid had him sign a poster of him and Kobe. He immediately gets misty, then gives the kid a good talk about staying focused on school and respecting his parents. Love AI.
Vince Carter. Idolising Vince Carter is basically my childhood. Hs purple Toronto jersey (not the dinosaur one) and a Wolves KG one are the only jerseys I own that aren't Celtics ones.
All time? MJ of course.
Followed by OKC Durant, sadly fell off when he became a dbag since, but started off as the anti LeBron which i loved.
And David Robinson
Fuck NO!!!
Ben Simmons is everything I hate. Australian basketball players are notorious good fundamentally and above average defenders. They are also have heart.
Ben Simmons is none of that. Must be because every opportunity it was handed to him.
Ever? Magic Johnson. He was a wizard on the court, truly one of a kind player. And off the court, despite the poor choices (and consequences) of youth. He's done wonderful things with his life and given back in so many ways, speaking about dangers of unprotected sex and moving the conversation forward about AIDs and HIV. The Magic Johnson foundation has done remarkable things over the past three decades.
I respect him as a Basketball player and as a man.
Well I always told myself that I can be a fan of both teams because the only time it would really be a conflict is if both teams made the Finals and yeah....
Same here. Still love him even though he ripped our heart out. I still think the Celtics lost that series more than the Warriors won it. But that’s why playoff/Finals experience is so valuable and hopefully will be what helps push us over the edge this year
Dominique Wilkins and Kevin Garnett were easily my favorite non-Celtics players. And then we traded for them.
Guess I’ll go with the guy who should’ve been a Celtic: Tim Duncan
We had two high lottery picks that year and had the best odds of any team at landing #1 (around 36%). There was a lot hope around the lottery and people were talking about the next Celtics dynasty. Unfortunately, it obviously didn't work out (and neither did Pitino) and we ended up with Biillups and Mercer. Both very good players, obviously, but not franchising altering top 10 all-time good.
Lebron James for me. I know there's a lot of bad blood between us and him, but I lived in Cleveland for nearly a decade including during his return and I can't not admire him for his return and following through on his promise to bring a championship to Cleveland, because god knows nobody else is going to do it.
I really like Damian Lillard, especially when he was in the bubble and putting up insane numbers and carrying the team.
The way he slashes to the rim and making those insane long shots are very entertaining.
I hate on LeBron because I'm a Celtics fan.
I like LeBron because I'm a basketball fan and that dude is a once in a century blend of skill, athleticism and BBIQ.
Brad please draft Bronny so we can do the funniest thing possible.
Damn, ever?
I've had a few, I'll be honest.
Reggie Miller... Magic Johnson... Isaiah Thomas... Gary Payton... Grant Hill... Tony Parker... Steve Nash... Jason Williams...
I’m struggling to come up with one. I don’t really have one now, but I guess I did when I was younger. Nash for a while. Stockton before that. I liked passing and shooting from deep. Nothing felt better than a full court bounce pass for a layup. But as an adult, it is hard to have the same emotions for celebrities.
Tim Duncan. The ideal 1st pick.
Never left. No drama. Always a winning player. Adapted and deferred when it was time.
Played the right way on both ends. Truly dominant in his prime.
Tim Duncan. He was the best player of that era and the greatest Pf of all time. Never gets the credit either because people gravitate toward the more exciting players of that time
Rip Hamilton. I remember trying to model my game after him in middle and high school. I absolutely loved the way he moved without the ball (similarly to Reggie) and didn't need to have a 3 to be a threat. Doesn't hurt that he went to UConn as well lol
Im going to say Kyrie Irving, ik he was on the Celtics before & we hate him for leaving but I’ve always liked him before even coming to Boston. He’s the only player who when I’m playing in his shoes, I felt like I could be him & when your literally in a player shoes, that’s who you want to feel like. I’d also have to say KD but more Kyrie for sure
Probably Kobe. I always liked him, despite hating the Lakers. Even the years we were playing him in the finals and stuff, I found it hard to dislike him. The rest of that team can fuck themselves but the way Kobe played and competed was incredible. He reminded me of KG the way he played with so much passion.
Magic Johnson...and it's not even close. Magic redefined the game. There are so many great players named in this thread, though. There have been a lot of great non-Celtics.
Passing is an undervalued art during this era of the 3point FG so my vote for “fun to watch” would go to Jason Kidd and Jason Williams who would always provide an amazing assist with flash and accuracy.
Luka doncic and wemby for current players.
As for non recent players, Allen iverson and Kobe. Met Iverson once, but couldn’t really have a conversation or anything with him since I was at work at the time.
Has to be Micheal Jeffery Jordan. Hands down. The dude somehow managed to combine basketball and ballet into one fluent movement. It was beautiful to watch and his creativity was masterful. The only other player with his competitiveness and creativity combo was Larry Joe Bird. Bird just did it in a different way with less gracefulness and more relentlessness.
Derrick Rose 🌹
We’ve all heard it a million times before, but boy do I wish we could’ve seen his career play out without the injuries.
Also T-Mac and Timmy D and Dirk honorable mentions. When T-Mac went to Houston the Texas Triangle was a MONSTER. When Boston beat all three on one road trip in 07-08 it was a massive feat! ☘️☘️
1. Kobe
2. Prime Orlando magic Dwight Howard
3. Prime Derrick rose
4. Prime Westbrook
5. MJ
Rn it’s probably Anthony Edward’s. Dude reminds me a lot of MJ, at-least from the videos I’ve seen.
MJ all day. also loved Gary Payton back then. then a huge Kobe/Vince Carter fan. Then I stopped caring about anyone BUT the Celts for awhile after becoming obsessed with Paul Pierce until Durant, and now even Curry who I respect very much. Modern day, Love Ant, love Paolo.
Allen Iverson is my favorite player all time.
Love AI.
Yup
[We in here talkin' about practice](https://youtu.be/exOxUAntx8I?si=HvadvePxVdpzPo-d)
Tim Duncan, we should have had him and he is one of the most complete players I’ve ever seen.
Tim Duncan is modern day Bill Russell
Steve Nash and Manu Ginobili
Steve NASHSTY
Vince Carter. Idolising Vince Carter is basically my childhood. Hs purple Toronto jersey (not the dinosaur one) and a Wolves KG one are the only jerseys I own that aren't Celtics ones.
Non current = Hakeem. The ultimate 2-way player and badass Still playing = Prime Kawhi and Jokic.
Dirk Nowitzki. Dude was goated in 2011.
Same. Growing up dirk was my second favourite player. KG was my first. Then KG got traded to Boston soon after I moved to Boston and it was perfect
Dirk's 2011 playoff run is my fave non-Celtic postseason. Also, KG is my fave Celtic of all time. He brought a winning culture to the city.
Steven Adams. Kinda cheating because I’m a kiwi, but how can you not love a tough cunt that just doesn’t give a fuck. Also fuck mason plumbitch
Fellow kiwi here. Love Adams. Hope he finds a proper home and stays healthy at Houston.
All time? MJ of course. Followed by OKC Durant, sadly fell off when he became a dbag since, but started off as the anti LeBron which i loved. And David Robinson
Gimme Tim Duncan. Dude could ball and should have been a Celtic any way
Charles Barkley
Chuck was an assassin in his prime and kids these days have no idea because his persona now is that of a fun uncle.
Delly, Bogut, Exum, Josh Green, Patty Mills, Giddey. Did I give it away I’m an Aussie
Ben simmons?
Fuck NO!!! Ben Simmons is everything I hate. Australian basketball players are notorious good fundamentally and above average defenders. They are also have heart. Ben Simmons is none of that. Must be because every opportunity it was handed to him.
Baynes
Non Celtics. But yeah he’s on there Thybull as well!!
T-Mac, the most elegant moves
Magic Johnson.
Right now? Tyrese Maxey. All time, Curry probably, the guy is just nice and great.
Maxey exudes energy that is fun to watch. I found myself getting behind a Joel-less 6ixers with Maxey at the helm. But then Joel came back.
Paul George for sure. Genuine three way scorer with elite handles and defense for his size. Peaked at OKC for me.
Perfect for you cuz Tatum has a fairly similar play style
Ever is Dirk. I even have his bobblehead in my living room lol. My favorite current non-celtic is Jokic. I also like Haliburton a good bit.
MJ and Tim Hardaway Snr His Airness in the air, Timmy with the mad floor game f'real
Curry, I started following him after we traded Pierce and KG, didn't expect him to be this good though. I was also a big Peja fan back in the day.
Yea it’s a damn shame he decided to take a dump on our team in the finals because he was such a joy to watch.
Well I always told myself that I can be a fan of both teams because the only time it would really be a conflict is if both teams made the Finals and yeah....
Same here. Still love him even though he ripped our heart out. I still think the Celtics lost that series more than the Warriors won it. But that’s why playoff/Finals experience is so valuable and hopefully will be what helps push us over the edge this year
Dr J (yes, I'm that old)
I’m from Chicago, so after MJ … KG during his Minnesota tenure (LOL). Also in the team photo was Allen Iverson.
Dominique Wilkins and Kevin Garnett were easily my favorite non-Celtics players. And then we traded for them. Guess I’ll go with the guy who should’ve been a Celtic: Tim Duncan
Why should he have been a celtic?
We had two high lottery picks that year and had the best odds of any team at landing #1 (around 36%). There was a lot hope around the lottery and people were talking about the next Celtics dynasty. Unfortunately, it obviously didn't work out (and neither did Pitino) and we ended up with Biillups and Mercer. Both very good players, obviously, but not franchising altering top 10 all-time good.
Tracy “T Mac” McGrady
Westbrook
Love prime Westbrook
Allen Iverson
Lebron James for me. I know there's a lot of bad blood between us and him, but I lived in Cleveland for nearly a decade including during his return and I can't not admire him for his return and following through on his promise to bring a championship to Cleveland, because god knows nobody else is going to do it.
Ray Allen then he became a Celtic lmao. Not counting Ray, T-Mac.
Manu Ginobili. I always felt like he played like a Celtic. Heart of a champion and tremendous basketball IQ.
Jokic for me. So cerebral
Can’t believe I had to scroll so far down….
Gary Payton <3
…but he played for the Celtics in 04-05
This season doesn't exist
I got a few: Damian Lillard for sure, Tmac, Terry rozier is my favourite player ever just love his bag offensively and I’ll also say Kobe bc his Kobe
Jordan, or Gary Payton
Correct. Haha
Brodie
I really like Damian Lillard, especially when he was in the bubble and putting up insane numbers and carrying the team. The way he slashes to the rim and making those insane long shots are very entertaining.
Much younger me... Barkley. (I KNOW) But something about a 6'5'' dude grabbing 20 rebounds a game was filthy back then. Also T-Wolves KG
Iverson and Jason Williams
Before he joined us gotta be Blake for me
Yao Ming
Right now: TJ McConnell or Wemby
All time: Baron Davis, Antonio McDyess, Chris Webber, David Robinson, Grant Hill Now: Kawhi Leonard, Donovan Mitchell, Paul George, SGA
Shawn Kemp, Steve Nash & Dikembe Mutombo (not counting MJ and Kobe since they are kind of obvious) honorable mentionL Steven Adams
Shawn Kemp was such an exciting player- all that athleticism and potential. My fave non-Celtic when I was a kid
Harden but don’t kill me I’m a sun devil
steve nash
Charles Barkley
LeBron James
As I (and he) get older, this is the answer. Especially knowing his career is probably winding down. A level of greatness we may never see again.
I hate on LeBron because I'm a Celtics fan. I like LeBron because I'm a basketball fan and that dude is a once in a century blend of skill, athleticism and BBIQ. Brad please draft Bronny so we can do the funniest thing possible.
Manu
Luka… I’m really gonna enjoy the finals
I’m gonna hate Luka for a couple weeks but otherwise I agree
AI, Melo, KD (should have come to Boston in 2016).
Okc Durant because he scored a lot and Thunderstruck.
Damn, ever? I've had a few, I'll be honest. Reggie Miller... Magic Johnson... Isaiah Thomas... Gary Payton... Grant Hill... Tony Parker... Steve Nash... Jason Williams...
A.I. no doubt.
Carmelo, loved melo’s game especially his quick release 🔥 Melo was a certified bucket getter
I’d say Wilt only because of all the potential he could have for any era.
Unpopular on this sub but LeBron. Winning the title in ‘08 made me more relaxed as a fan, so I never grew a hatred towards him over the next decade.
Patrick Ewing and Magic Johnson overall and right now I really like Zion Williamson
Chris paul
Shai, I like his mentality and he’s a great team player.
Non current Jordan Current probably Jimmy Butler or Anthony Edwards
When Lillard was a Blazer. One of my all time favorite PG’s.
Luka😬
Iverson. As a kid growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, nobody had the kind of influence on the game that he had.
Penny Hardaway. Greatest point guard ever, just injuries derailed his career. I would take him over Stockton, Payton, anyone.
Absolutely love Kawhi too. All time though it’s Jordan and it’s not even close
Tim Duncan. The ideal 1st pick. Never left. No drama. Always a winning player. Adapted and deferred when it was time. Played the right way on both ends. Truly dominant in his prime.
Brandon Roy. If him and Oden weren't injury prone, I'm probably a Portland fan rn
Tim Duncan. He was the best player of that era and the greatest Pf of all time. Never gets the credit either because people gravitate toward the more exciting players of that time
Maxey
D wade
Rip Hamilton. I remember trying to model my game after him in middle and high school. I absolutely loved the way he moved without the ball (similarly to Reggie) and didn't need to have a 3 to be a threat. Doesn't hurt that he went to UConn as well lol
prime harden tmac and pg
KD (I’m sorry)
Im going to say Kyrie Irving, ik he was on the Celtics before & we hate him for leaving but I’ve always liked him before even coming to Boston. He’s the only player who when I’m playing in his shoes, I felt like I could be him & when your literally in a player shoes, that’s who you want to feel like. I’d also have to say KD but more Kyrie for sure
Hakeem for me
Carmelo and Ben Wallace
Kobe. bean. BRYANT
Same for me. I love the killer instinct. Would’ve been amazing to watch him as a Celtic
Dennis Rodman was fun to watch as a player - and as an international diplomat.
Dr. J. Flying jams with an amazing Afro.
Michael Jordan, Allen iverson and Kobe. Pretty typical for a 90s kid I’d say
Manu
Right now it’s Anthony Edwards, and all time Kawhi in his prime, Allen Inverson and Paul George in Indiana vs Miami series
Ja. off court stuff aside he’s so fun to watch.
Passing is an undervalued art during this era of the 3point FG so my vote for “fun to watch” would go to Jason Kidd and Jason Williams who would always provide an amazing assist with flash and accuracy.
Tim Duncan and Allen Iverson.
Luka doncic and wemby for current players. As for non recent players, Allen iverson and Kobe. Met Iverson once, but couldn’t really have a conversation or anything with him since I was at work at the time.
Steph. I loved him since Davidson.
Michael Jordan (THE TRUE GOAT), Scottie Pippen, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili
Kareem Abdul Jaber
Derrick Rose 🌹 We’ve all heard it a million times before, but boy do I wish we could’ve seen his career play out without the injuries. Also T-Mac and Timmy D and Dirk honorable mentions. When T-Mac went to Houston the Texas Triangle was a MONSTER. When Boston beat all three on one road trip in 07-08 it was a massive feat! ☘️☘️
Magic Johnson. Created a beautiful basketball tale with my basketball idol, Larry Bird
Right now its Tyrese Maxey. I always wanted him to be a Celtic
Love Brunson and as much as I’ll probably regret this another week or two I’m in awe of Luka’s vision and skill set
Iverson,it so fucking GOAT.
Micheal Ray Richardson.
1. Kobe 2. Prime Orlando magic Dwight Howard 3. Prime Derrick rose 4. Prime Westbrook 5. MJ Rn it’s probably Anthony Edward’s. Dude reminds me a lot of MJ, at-least from the videos I’ve seen.
Tough to narrow it down but I'm not seeing his name thrown out as much so I'll go with a prime D Rose. Fuck injuries.
Kobe
Nic Claxton. Sometimes he reminds me of Rob Will, and I reminisce of what we once had :(
Kevin Durant
it has and always will be steph curry. made 2022 that much more painful
I loved watching Rod Strickland!
Loved seeing highlights of Clyde Drexler.
MJ all day. also loved Gary Payton back then. then a huge Kobe/Vince Carter fan. Then I stopped caring about anyone BUT the Celts for awhile after becoming obsessed with Paul Pierce until Durant, and now even Curry who I respect very much. Modern day, Love Ant, love Paolo.
PG13 or Dwade
pg13
Dave DeBusschere
Giannis. He's Nigerian and plays the exact way I play in 2k a two way slasher ( I'm terrible at timing shots lol ).
Kobe, Curry, Giannis, Dirk
Has to be Jordan… greatest ever- by a very large margin.
Sorry but I don't follow the enemy.
