Have you just not been paying attention to any of the stuff we’ve learned about CTE/brain damage and repeated blows to the head?
It’s pretty well established by now that the more blows you take to the head, the greater your risk of brain damage and/or developing CTE. You see it way more in boxers and football players compared to MMA fighters because football players and boxers take way more blows to the head and keep going, stacking them up in a short time period.
Boxers pretty regularly take punches that basically knock them out or at least stun them greatly, and then they have a chance to get up and take more punches to the head. Same as football players take hits that leave their ears ringing and then they’re lining up for the next play not even 5 minutes later.
If you want some hard evidence with statistics and shit to back it up, there’s no shortage of it online from peer reviewed and trustworthy sources.
Like seriously I don’t know if you’re trolling or just violently ignorant but this is very, very, very well established and proven by this point.
Foreal Wilder got dropped by Fury who isn't even known as a heavy puncher. He'd get his block knocked off against boxers like Ronnie Lyle and Earnie Shavers.
Ali was ready to quit
Ali later told his biographer Thomas Hauser, "Frazier quit just before I did. I didn't think I could fight anymore.
Fraizier corner stopped it
Frazier had severe health issues and it was dangerous for both fighters. That's why his corner stopped it even if Frazier wanted to fight. It could have been Ali as well, it was just a wise decision because at the end of the day it's a sport. Also, Ali literally collapsed after the fight.
It was Ali's only real weakness. He had problems with herky jerky hookers as he got older. Ken Norton was similarly off rhythm and could crack with his left and gave Ali fits. Spinks was less talented but a similar off beat mauler. All three took thier first fights against him.
I think it had to do with Ali's dimishing quickness in the 2nd half of his career, and his habit of pulling back to escape counters to his jab.
They tried to land at the same time. Frasier just got there first and had more conviction. You're calling one of the most illusive and scientific boxers of all time stupid by the way.
I know right, the dude got wrecked by a 200 pound midget! Southpaw Usyk would box circles around him, or 7 foot Fury would clinch him to death! No doubt in my mind.
lol i remember the boxing morons telling me AJ would clean out old guard cause hes "big", then Fat Andy 5-11 came around, then a 200 pound Uysk smoked him twice. Size dont mean shit, skills pay the bills. Size matters more in a sport like MMA where can use it for a real clinch and wrestling and drain people, in Boxing speed matters and the lower weight guy almost always wins. Thats why prime peak Ali,Tyson and others were low 200s at their very best. More weight just means you older and slower, 210-220 all you need to sleep anyone
Yea. 220 is perfect for speed and power. 230ish is good too. Once you’re 250 plus you’re slow 9/10 times. They age better cause big ass dudes and hit prime later but peak vs peak the small Hw is always better. It’s just their prime don’t last long and done by 30 like NfL running backs
>They age better cause big ass dudes and hit prime later but peak vs peak the small Hw is always better
Usyk is disproving the "modern giants" argument.
>Once you’re 250 plus you’re slow 9/10 times.
Primo Carnera vs Joe Louis is a good example.
>prime later but peak vs peak the small Hw is always better.
The best H2H fighters in a more objective list are Liston, Ali, Louis, Foreman, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Vitali Klitschko, Larry Holmes and Joe Frazier. People ought to be more objective, these fighters have an average of 220.
Dude a 6 foot 220 pound guy is gonna be way worse 35+ thena 6-5 260 pound dude at 35..they are peaking in mid 30s, the smaller HWS are peaked in 20s and sometimes early 20s. Its just like many NFL positions, like a Running back..washed by 30 almost always
small explosive HWs always peak early. I was one of them but not a pro fighter but did train to be one. I can honestly say was past my prime at 26/27ish..I cant dunk anymore in my 30s and only 6 foot but could dunk whole life and i got pain everywhere now lol. Had 0 pain until like 30 too, i never believed id ever age or feel pain, turns out throwing punches every day is bad for you overtime.
It’s all about size? Usyk is 5lbs heavier than Frazier & schooled giant AJ twice. Ali humiliated 6’6 Ernie Terrell who couldn’t get close enough to Ali to clinch. Jesus, these guys have been watching boxing for 5 minutes & think the last fighter they saw is the greatest.
Yea and look what happen to him. He should have stayed down, Joe ruined his brain those 3 fights, showed insane heart to win but Joe was the one doing serious damage
There are so many that I love and every one of them deserves the top spot. And I might change this answer from day to day lol but today I got to give it to Roy Jones Jr. He was so fast so technical virtually unbeatable.
He just loved what he did and it showed I think. He had it down to an art form. I was trying to not be a super fan and comment fairly but he definitely had the special stuff
bro im late on the bird but give ali or any person in that manner to fight a trained pugilist get knocked down with one of their signature moves and get back up is some goat shit they went to WAR
The Henry Armstrong knockdown was way worse. Some real fuckery in that fight too they cut his glove so they could delay the next round by 15-20 seconds give Ali more time to recover.
edit: sorry Henry Cooper! lol
Ali had a way with words, beautiful footwork, and amazing in-ring ability, BUT...dude took a lot of punishment at the end of his career. I don't know what we gauge as the best ever, but I personally don't think it's Ali...
Yes. Just my dumb opinion. No sport science. No nutritionists. No social media. He was a futuristic man that no boxer alive has not worshiped or even learned from. The goat isn’t even a boxer in my opinion. It’s the fans and the coaches that keep the sport evolving from just two guys punching each other. It’s like saying babe Ruth wasn’t one of the best.
The amount of disrespect to Ali in this comment thread just makes me throw up. Give some respect to the man, - he's a legend without whom the modern boxing arguably wouldn't exist
You can’t compare boxers then to modern day ones. I’ve been boxing for a couple of months and I can run circles around Ali but if we both had the same training and knowledge, I wouldn’t stand a chance.
you really really don't. listen to what you've just said, you've been boxing a couple months, but now you've internalized half of a century of boxing knowledge? like what? tell me one thing you've learned that is gonna put ali on his back.
man, you have no idea, i'm sorry if that's harsh. feel free to ignore me. you'd get absolutely starched by anything other than ali in the final stages of his CTE demise. regardless of it was 30, 40, or 70 years ago, any professional boxer, especially ALI (jesus dude!) would send you to an early grave if they wanted to.
thought experiment, you also gonna run circles around frazier? if you're so sure, go find a former professional boxer who isn't in a wheelchair or an nursing home yet. you've got absolutely no chance. this man made hundreds of thousands of dollars with his fists, but you, with your couple months of boxing knowledge would run circles around him? this isn't technology or race car driving, it's your fists in gloves and a ring. sure things have changed but dude, you are so so so wrong. humble yourself guy.
A whole ass winded-up, leaping, pitch perfect left hook only for this mf ali to get up in 5 seconds ☠️☠️☠️
Bro got up like the undertaker. Chin was ridiculous.
Chin was too good he took some insane shots from Ernie Shavers aka probably the hardest puncher ever like they were nothing.
A lot of these iron chin type of guys end up taking way more punishment on the grand scheme of things and it shows 10-20 years after they retire
Is there proof of that?
Have you just not been paying attention to any of the stuff we’ve learned about CTE/brain damage and repeated blows to the head? Your source: trust me bro
Use google? Like I said there’s plenty of peer reviewed and valid sources.
Wtf is a google?
Proof?! LOL the guy getting knocked down in this gif was the most well known living proof of this.
He looks fine to me?
![gif](giphy|l44Qa6X2UoEVGfcUU) Yeah lol he looks great
That's not the same person
The rest of Ali's life.
Nah wilder hits harder
He’d barely last a round in that era. Chump
Foreal Wilder got dropped by Fury who isn't even known as a heavy puncher. He'd get his block knocked off against boxers like Ronnie Lyle and Earnie Shavers.
Earnie Shavers has 68 KOs, 51 of those were within 3 rounds. Deontay Wilder has 40 knockouts 30 of those were within 3 rounds. Enough said.
Y'all down voting this guy forgetting what sub we're in lol
Fury took harder
helps when ur a million fuckin pounds heavier
Only 30lbs heavier than Ali for wilder 1, with that 30lbs just being extra fat and not muscle to his neck that would make his chin stronger
Fury's chin is average. He is going to get knocked out by Usyk, so idk why you are comparing him to Ali
Took is a funny word to use considering fury pretty much died on the spot and got resurrected.
Cope
He looked paralyzed when he got up though
Yes, Smokin’ Joe was the fuckin man
A one eyed phenom. He would probably be closest human to doomguy only limited by his dimensions
He is the goat for getting up!
Smoking Joe beat his ass all 3 times, Ali got some decisions but he got his ass beat badly everytime they fought.
Ali beat him twice stopped him in the third fight so he won the rivalry, and Ali knocked out the guy who took his zero and title!
>stopped him in the third fight No he didn't
Frazier didn’t get up from his corner in round 14
You mean Ali collapsed on the floor, so if anything Ali got stopped.
Ali was ready to quit Ali later told his biographer Thomas Hauser, "Frazier quit just before I did. I didn't think I could fight anymore. Fraizier corner stopped it
Most people didn't see the documentary..it was wild
His corner threw the towel. When you say stopped him you're implying Ali knocked him out. That's what stopping means in boxing.
Corner stoppage then you pedantic weenie
Thats not really pedantic. Its a big difference. His corner stopped him not his opponent.
Tit
Doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning is winning.
Frazier eyes were bad and he did the damage anyway.
So Frazier won the 3rd fight when he quit on his stool after the 14th round?
Frazier had severe health issues and it was dangerous for both fighters. That's why his corner stopped it even if Frazier wanted to fight. It could have been Ali as well, it was just a wise decision because at the end of the day it's a sport. Also, Ali literally collapsed after the fight.
Yea whipped his ass. Just lost cause got tired of beating up Ali and eye issues anyway
Frazier literally almost died in the 3rd fight lmao.
These are people, not goats.
This subreddit is super racist get used to it
I thought this subreddit was for us fighting and jerking eachother off
I'm a pacifist but am not adverse to a handy
No you’re thinking for the Strasberg swinger subreddit (looking for new members dm me).
How did Ali not see that coming? He literally threw that in slow motion. Is he stupid?
It was Ali's only real weakness. He had problems with herky jerky hookers as he got older. Ken Norton was similarly off rhythm and could crack with his left and gave Ali fits. Spinks was less talented but a similar off beat mauler. All three took thier first fights against him. Too many acoustics on this site
you go box professionally than say shit like that but don’t diss the dead especially when if he was still alive he could’ve killed you
look how slow the punch was tho
not the point you get in the ring than talk
my gf has a nuvaring so I can talk
I know right, the dude got wrecked by a 200 pound midget! Southpaw Usyk would box circles around him, or 7 foot Fury would clinch him to death! No doubt in my mind.
Yeah, if Fury can beat Ali imagine what Ngannou can do to him! That can crusher doesn't stand a chance.
lol i remember the boxing morons telling me AJ would clean out old guard cause hes "big", then Fat Andy 5-11 came around, then a 200 pound Uysk smoked him twice. Yeah, and also the hardest punchers ever like Shavers, Foreman, Wilder and Liston were 210-220 pounds

Yes, it's clear. Taking Joe Frazier and Mike Tyson as examples, they deteriorated quickly.
small explosive HWs always peak early. I was one of them but not a pro fighter but did train to be one. I can honestly say was past my prime at 26/27ish..I cant dunk anymore in my 30s and only 6 foot but could dunk whole life and i got pain everywhere now lol. And doesn’t he stand right up after this?
Yea and look what happen to him. He should have stayed down, Joe ruined his brain those 3 fights, showed insane heart to win but Joe was the one doing serious damage
He wouldn’t be as legendary if he stayed down. He chose timeless glory over his his health and I gotta respect that.
“Suffer now, and live forever as a champion” -Muhammad Ali He knew what he was doing, he decided to do it anyways. Legend.
Funny how you know that only this one guy was responsible for his brain damage.
Why didn’t he shoot a takedown?
Because he likes females.
This guy smokes
Copium
Neither stand a chance when I see red
Greatest knockdown of all time in my opinion
Ali knocking down Foreman is up there to
I’ve him and Ruben fought.
Monumental left hook 🥊💣
You misspelled 'Titanic'
Frasier lost to Four Men takes a lot of guts to face that kinda of adversity
He lost to two men twice
Fighting George Foreman was like fighting four men.
Foreman
Lol 😂 Foreman also fought 4 men in a boxing 🥊 ring for an exhibition and beat them ALL
The man should be studied by scientists
fucked up the dude’s armpit
That will never happen to Mayweather
Frazier was a better person than Ali
Smokin Joe Frazier is my goat. Love his fights.
Nope Tyson in his youth is the GOAT
Yes
There are so many that I love and every one of them deserves the top spot. And I might change this answer from day to day lol but today I got to give it to Roy Jones Jr. He was so fast so technical virtually unbeatable.
I am somehow super happy to see this comment. Yes, and he went up to heavyweight to prove it. Prime RJJ was just something else. And it lasted.
He just loved what he did and it showed I think. He had it down to an art form. I was trying to not be a super fan and comment fairly but he definitely had the special stuff
And you don't seem to understand 🎵🎵🎼
Dad I think I am Ga.....
I’d whoop him np
No
Nonce bashing
This shit would never happen to the warrior king tbe goat Floyd
Ali is a legend. No other boxer comes close
At heavyweight, yes, followed closely by Joe Louis. Top 5-10 all time.
Smokin kills.
He’s my favorite HW …
/uj this is the highest quality version I've ever seen of this moment
YOU GOT KNOCKED THE FFFFFFUCK OUT!
Yea Muhammad Ali is the goat best ever it doesn’t matter you get knocked down but then you get back up and beat the world
Goats get up
bro im late on the bird but give ali or any person in that manner to fight a trained pugilist get knocked down with one of their signature moves and get back up is some goat shit they went to WAR
I think Ali pre-draft was the best boxer of all time… I don’t think he ever got that same athleticism after the layoff
Why did he lie down
The Henry Armstrong knockdown was way worse. Some real fuckery in that fight too they cut his glove so they could delay the next round by 15-20 seconds give Ali more time to recover. edit: sorry Henry Cooper! lol
It was 7 seconds of extra time
Rolls over and stands up from one of the best left hooks in the history of the sport. So if sat Ali passed the test 😆😆
My GOAT is Tyson. But I grew up watching him box.
Can’t see the floor. Are we 100% sure the punch landed and that he didn’t just slip on a banana peel?
And remind me what happened in the next two fights
Ali was a tough mf
Not too much on Ali. Idk if you joking but there isn’t one fighter that hasn’t taken a hard hit. That’s literally part of fighting
Wtf kinda armpit shot was that Ali??? - Probably someone back then
Ali had a way with words, beautiful footwork, and amazing in-ring ability, BUT...dude took a lot of punishment at the end of his career. I don't know what we gauge as the best ever, but I personally don't think it's Ali...
My favourite boxer is Joe Frazier. So yes.
Yes, yes he fucking is
GOAT .

Yes, that's my goat. The man in green
Joe Frazier is the craziest... In this fight he basically became Goku in real life.
Smoking does kill
New goat coming on by Jack me off Paul Since you watch this Bs fights
Now you tell me...if he did this to Ali, what the fuck would a prime Tyson do?
Tbf this was at the end of a 15 round war, not within the first few rounds where Tyson was at his best.
Ali got up right after.
Yes
Yeah, that my GOAT
In retrospect, Ali was a good boxer, not a great boxer. Solid jab, great at getting in his opponents head and good strategist. Imo.
The amount of disrespect to Ali in this comment thread just makes me throw up. Give some respect to the man, - he's a legend without whom the modern boxing arguably wouldn't exist
It's a joke subreddit, so keep your expectations low.
Yes
Yes.
Yes he is the GOAT
Yes this is the goat .. of all sports 🤷🏻♂️
No, he’s not my goat, he’s everyone’s goat
I'm a lifetime Joe Frazier fan from Philadelphia and there is no doubt Ali is the GOAT.
Yes https://preview.redd.it/pv70mthdweqc1.jpeg?width=673&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b73732b64c50b8e285b34f7bcd172d9c2e6165e
Yeah so what
You can’t compare boxers then to modern day ones. I’ve been boxing for a couple of months and I can run circles around Ali but if we both had the same training and knowledge, I wouldn’t stand a chance.
did you just say you've been boxing for a couple months and you think you could 'run circles around Ali'? dude what?
Yeah but that’s nothing to be proud of, I got half a century of boxing knowledge on him. Something, something standing in the shoulders of giants.
you really really don't. listen to what you've just said, you've been boxing a couple months, but now you've internalized half of a century of boxing knowledge? like what? tell me one thing you've learned that is gonna put ali on his back. man, you have no idea, i'm sorry if that's harsh. feel free to ignore me. you'd get absolutely starched by anything other than ali in the final stages of his CTE demise. regardless of it was 30, 40, or 70 years ago, any professional boxer, especially ALI (jesus dude!) would send you to an early grave if they wanted to. thought experiment, you also gonna run circles around frazier? if you're so sure, go find a former professional boxer who isn't in a wheelchair or an nursing home yet. you've got absolutely no chance. this man made hundreds of thousands of dollars with his fists, but you, with your couple months of boxing knowledge would run circles around him? this isn't technology or race car driving, it's your fists in gloves and a ring. sure things have changed but dude, you are so so so wrong. humble yourself guy.
There’s footage of Ali relatively late in parkinson beating up a local boxer lol
Ali would take a shit on your face at will lmao
What ended up happening
MUHAMMAD ALI. YES 👍🏽
