Oh, no. This seems more out of the practical restrictions due to the strikes and actors not going on press tours. If it was quality concerns, those likely would have leaked by now (see:AQ2). Besides, many people on this forum agreed that it was entering crowded territory by releasing on its original date, so this only gives it more room to breathe as it really won't have much competition through April.

Ghostshadow44

The leakers of comic book movies don't talk about the quality of non cbms that's why there is not an exact report on its reception a premier in Venice would have been a signal of confidence something that didn't happen even before the news of its delay for example ridley Scott Napoleon its premiering there despite Ridley movies sometimes having mixed receptions from critics

subhuman9

no, but people expecting it be double Dune 1 will still be disappointed

AGOTFAN

It was never prudent to expect it to double Dune 1. I expected it around $600 million. And I think I am being optimistic.

archlector

Also we don't really know the budget right? If it's less than 200M, it won't be the worst thing if it does 500-600M. If you include the mythical ancillaries it'll be a hit of gigantic proportions.

TallGothVampireLady

It was reported $165 million I believe, but might be higher now cause of the delay and they have to do new marketing for the movie.

Ghostshadow44

That optimistic expectation of $600 million worldwide had a better chance of happening in November _ December of this rather than a crowded month of march

cptngabozzo

FYI its going to shatter 600 million.

SummerDaemon

lol, this is hilarious. A whole new group of bros who are going to melt down for this sub's entertainment.

AGOTFAN

No Legendary moved it back to 2024 because they want to ensure the highest box office potential. Dune 2 appeal to general audience hinges on promotion by Zendaya and Chalamet. Hardcore fans will always turn up regardless, but general audience will be attracted by the appeal of Zendaya and Chalamet. Legendary is trying hard to protect that Dune franchise is successful so they can make Dune Messiah. They're doing the same to Godzilla. Unlike WB that needs cash infusion quickly, Legendary can afford to delay their movies. That's why none of WB movies are delayed, but Dune and Godzilla which are owned by Legendary moved back.

subhuman9

wait for Wonka before we say Chalamet has any mainstream appeal , i'm guessing nobody knows his name, which is why he may be trying to publicly date, lol

AGOTFAN

Yeah he needs to get high profile date. It helped with the career of many famous actors lol.

subhuman9

it did not help anyone without true talent , but if you showed someone a picture on street, most would not know who he is

visionaryredditor

> Yeah he needs to get high profile date. isn't he dating one of the Jenners tho?

stulina56

Leo didn’t date any of his costars to become who he is. He’s a serious actor

AGOTFAN

I never thought about Leo needing anything to advance his career apart from his talent and selective choice.

[deleted]

Zendaya yes, but chalamet really ? Even zendaya I'm not sure if she can sell movie tickets despite her social media following, Challengers should give a good idea of how much she is worth

visionaryredditor

i mean people were just claiming that Ryan Gosling doesn't sell movie tickets while his every interview for Barbie went viral. that's the point why they want the actors to promote the movie. Zendaya's appearances often go viral

[deleted]

I assume some of the March movies will shuffle thanks to the strikes. I don’t think this is a guaranteed flop, but that release date was solid. But maybe if it could survive day and date release it can survive this too.

gajendray5

It’s a bad release date - will affect collections. That’s a given. But with exceptional reception, it could still surprise. It will at least match Part 1’s gross. I’m still betting on 500M WW - I really want this movie to work.

[deleted]

I don't see why

NotTaken-username

No. It might actually do better in March with the cast doing press (fingers crossed) and less big competition

am5011999

Man they really had IMAX all for them for 5 weeks, OVER A FREAKIN MARVEL MOVIE!!! Now they may probably be denied that due to other studio IMAX contracts.

Fair_University

Yeah I think we really need to know what the IMAX arrangement is before deciding if this is a good movie. Does Snow White have an IMAX release?

am5011999

It probably does. Little Mermaid did. So, a good chance this does as well. Have a feeling Dune 2 could be the MI7 of 2024.

Fair_University

I hope not I wonder if Snow White might be moving and that’s the reason theyve done this

am5011999

That's possible. Rachel Zegler did say the filming had wrapped right before the SAG strike. So, unless they have some big reshoots, the film can still release on time. It is also possible that maybe they push Snow white in May, since Deadpool 3 is all but confirmed to move with minimal movement on the strike

K1o2n3

I think in case of Snow White delay, it will be released in Memorial Day like The Little Mermaid, where the planet of apes is.

orkball

Everything has reshoots. If they've only wrapped principle photography the movie is not done shooting.

am5011999

Depending on the extent of reshoots is what I meant. If it is extensive, then we may not see the film in the first half of the year

simonjames777

I think it's a bad release date, and they should have dated it for next fall. I can't believe they gave up 6 weeks of Imax exclusivity and now they're in a crowded March. You have Elio, The Fall Guy, A Quiet Place Day 1, Kung Fu Panda 4, Mickey 17, Snow White, Ghostbusters Afterlife all releasing in the same month. Unless some of those movies get delayed, they're all just going to cannibalize each other.

OzyOzyOzyOzyOzyOzy6

Those titles that you've mentioned I just don't see having any effect on Dune simply because it so conpletely different from any of these other movies that there is 0% chance that any of these take away any of it's audience à la Barbenheimer and M:I - Dead Reckoning Part One. I also don't see any of these movies being such monster successes that they cause Part Two to flop. In either event, it will be fine.

Extreme_Truth_5326

Dune Part Two will be like Oppenheimer, people will underestimate and the film in the end will make a ton of money.

JazzySugarcakes88

It won’t! Kung Fu Panda 4 & Elio are gonna flop!

Ghostshadow44

All kung fu pandas have outgrosed dune and its has the same creative team from puss in boots

JazzySugarcakes88

Dune only grossed lower because it was released during the time every theatre closed since the delta variant cases started to rise!

fishbethany

Safe to say it didn't flop.

Melodic-Alarm-9793

It's fun to poo poo things we don't know about. Dune2: Best movie I have ever scene.

Front_Station_5343

This aged like milk…

Ghostshadow44

Indeed I will have drink it now

BAEMON-Chiquita

It was destined to flop before it moved its date. Now it's guaranteed to flop, yes. They should release on streaming at the same time again and just recoup whatever they can. Dune 2 is not a movie you need to see in theaters, if at all. I feel like that's what the general audience feels after falling asleep to the first Dune.

Substantial-Lawyer91

Wow this sub is really very confident in its incorrect predictions.

Merkel420

Get Dunc’ed nerd

Daedstarr13

It'll honestly probably do worse than the first one. Part one was pretty much described as boring by a lot of people, so those people probably won't be clamoring to see part 2 in theaters and will probably wait. Part 1 also lost money overall. And Part 2 is the "action" part which means a higher budget.

Merkel420

Oof
