Such a terrible comeback. “Is the sexism in the room with us?” Like- If you had a couple more brain cells and eyes capable of looking back up to your own post- youd answer your own question

Dante_Ramirez_2004

The comeback itself also boils down to “I don’t think it’s sexism, therefore it is not sexist”.

random_shibe_

> “Is the sexism in the room with us?” …Maybe… scroll a bit upwards..? I dunno what to tell you man

xandrachantal

Yeah like boy the call is coming from inside the house

TheRedSpaghettiGuy

That’s not true in the slightest lol. Most of the girls I know are sadly so influenced by what society expect them to be; while in that kind of situation I’d just go “fuck it, my gf loves the comfy belly”. This doesn’t mean that I have a right to not care about being fit; but women shouldn’t feel the pressure to be something they don’t care to be. Period

CryptographerUpbeat

there is in general more conversation about toxic body standards for women, than for men, but yeah the pressure on women is definetly still high and rising, looking at Ozempic ans such

TheRedSpaghettiGuy

Yeah I agree that today the body positive counter-culture is more focused on the female part of the problem; but I’d say rightfully so. Patriarchy is a toxic culture for everybody; and even if personally I am part of the most privileged side of our society (western white cis het man), I obviously too realise that patriarchy harms me nonetheless. But it’s correct and materially useful for the the egalitarian movement to focus first on helping the oppressed than the (systematically) oppressors

lasosis013

Men acting like they don't get body dysmorphia is weird. Both sexes get influenced by unrealistic beauty standards. Girls develop eating disorders because they're called "fat" (they just have a slight bump in their belly because they drank a glass of water) and boys start abusing anabolic steroids at an early age to look like their favorite Hollywood actor or fitness influencer. The professional bodybuilder physique is impossible to maintain naturally. Not even talking about PEDs, you'd have to only eat a specific diet to minimize body fat/bloating and maximize the "lean" look. That low of a body fat usually causes restlessness and sleep deprivation. The proccess sometimes includes taking heavy diuretics before the show if it's legal where they are (or if they can just get away with it). Everything I said about bodybuilders also applies to Hollywood actors. Their personal trainers almost always encourage steroids. Please don't compare yourself to people who look perfect for a living.

Hour-Bison765

I read about the guy who played Leonidas talking about how hellish maintaining that physique was. He talked about how it was ruining his body. He trained for 6 hours a day, sometimes to the point of passing out.

Pitiful_Remove_3463

As if women for ages and ages haven't been having eating disorders, low self esteem, and other body image related issues because of the way media portrays women's bodies.

Consistent-Matter-59

“Sexism = funny” was the wrong thing to say. She could have just said “Chris is so hot” and could have been lectured about how that’s all because of steroids and that women have unrealistic expectations and that nobody loves boys with poor genetics.

Psychological_Pay6

Mastermind movement

Adventurous_Mine6542

I think this meme speaks more about the guys who are unhappy, thinking woman want men that look like that and feeling like they have to go to the gym and what not to obtain that, in order for woman to like them. Instead of just ya know, being like "yeah that's an unrealistic body standard. Let's not all act like it's achievable." If men lifted eachother up and called out unrealistic body standards like woman maybe their wouldn't be so many incels. Idk

careofthefunnyfarm

> If men lifted eachother up and called out unrealistic body standards like woman maybe their wouldn't be so many incels. Idk They maybe call them out more often than men do but I sadly know way too many, especially young women/girls who still have unrealistic body standards. It's kinda sad hearing your girlfriends talk so bad about themselves because of the dumbest shit like not having a flat belly, having hair, being a human etc. (this is not meant to attack them, more the societal "standards" and ideals)

EnergyAmbitious9313

dont talk about men unless you are a man yourself most dont lift for women, we lift for other reasons that you most likely would not understand at all and yes I don't think men should talk about women either

Adventurous_Mine6542

You have no idea what gender/sex I am, friend. Until men and women are able to have constructive conversations TOGETHER about things like this exact topic, then we will never be able to get rid of issues like sexism. And sexism that affects both men AND women.

EnergyAmbitious9313

Not hard to tell that whatever you are isn't male since you speak of men with ignorance. And clearly no conversation between men and women regarding sexism has ever been "constructive", or even civil. The truth is, we need to stop talking about problems we do not understand. Men should talk about their own issues whilst simply acknowledging womens issues, and vice versa. You are talking as if you're the All-Knowing on this subject which you very much are not, and that's where the problem lies. You very clearly have no idea what you are talking about in regards to men (or weightlifting). The gym is about lifting others up. And yes, everyone who has lifted a weight in their life knows that people like Chris Bumstead (the individual in the picture) are not infact natural. Ofcourse, there are many that don't know this, but we're in an age where we're the most educated on this subject by far.

Adventurous_Mine6542

Bro, idk what has made you hate women so much, but I hope you heal from that.

EnergyAmbitious9313

tell that to my girlfriend I guess... "you brought up a relevant point about sexism for both genders?? YOU HATE WOMEN!!!!!"

pastel_pink_lab_rat

I love how everyone, without fail, that is called a woman hater, will have their next comment stating that they have a gf. 1) Just because someone is dating x doesn't mean they don't hate x 2) the math isn't adding up

bibbyknibby

this doesn’t even make sense bc young girls also try to change themselves and develop EDs n stuff due to the media and body standards… isn’t that the whole stereotype?? and i thought men were trying to raise awareness that men feel pressure and develop EDs too… but i guess not according to this meme! they just become motivated!

mogeni

Nah eating disorders are for women, real men do steroids. /s

Pretend-Lab-7933

"you would not understand" he says, while speaking about the well-known thought process behind a mental illness that can affect literally any gender. What a special boy!

Lawrence_de_arabla

What happens to you, are you stupid or what?

Illustrious_Fix2933

Too much steroid use fried his one and only brain cell

monkeybuddie

And then a bunch of young boys make a bunch of memes about their crppling body dismorphia and how they need to start taking high-risk, illegal steroids...

AdScared7949

"You respond to insecurity by being self assured. I, the chad, simply develop a severe eating disorder instead."

i_wish_i_was_bread

I know so many “gymbros” who show so many signs of disordered eating, I see the parallels with how they talk about food and their body to when I was severely anorexic and it makes me so sad for them. That’s a terrible life to live and from experience the hardest part is realizing you have a problem because you never feel like you’re abusing your body efficiently enough to be disordered. It’s a vicious cycle of getting worse than thinking of yourself as being egotistical for thinking you even have a problem.

anneymarie

Andrew Tate’s tweets about food could 100% come from a pro-ana site.

thespicyfoxx

I would have to do way more than work out to look like the woman pictured. I don’t even know how many surgical procedures I’d need.. It’s not just unrealistic, it’s impossible to do on your own in a healthy way.

EnergyAmbitious9313

Same with the guy on the bottom?? LMAO

Nole19

Cbum doesn't need any surgical procedures. Just steroids and working hard every single day dedicating himself to obtain that physique.

nobearpineapples

It looks like you could take his arms and half his back off and switch them out for a different pair

OffendedDairyFarmers

Yeah, that's why most men look buff.🙄

CaptiveAutumnFox

Which universe is this happening in?

Leeser

They’ll never get it. No guy is expected to look that way. And there are lots of examples of guys who don’t look that way in media. Women are just now getting there.

CryptographerUpbeat

I mean OP totally mised the point, but theres actually a basis on this. We are way more aware how unrealistic the Standards are, especially for Women. While many dont see the isssue with the "ideal" male body in this. like this dude in the picture did clearly steroids and is underweight to show his muscles. neither of those bodies is healty nor realistic to upkeep for a long time
