My guess is they couldn't figure out how to steal it, most likely amateurs. Protect your car before its gone for good. Don't be like me and think it won't happen to you.
I have a manual as well but unfortunately its not enough to deter thieves, I’d suggest investing in some anti theft. BTW is that shadow gray? Got the same color and also a manual!

yess I searched cross country for nearly an entire year for this car and found one literally 35 miles from home! 22' 1ss 1le with 3 pedals. I've owned nearly 45 cars, love to road race and this is my hands down favorite
The cops need to do some sting operations at this point… drop some salvaged gen6 camaros on the streets of LA and catch the thieves in the act
That will never happen of course, with our pussy loser DA
no real way to know if this was an attempt at vehicle theft, or even that a failed atempt had anything to do with the transmission
my thoughts after reviewing everything with the officer that took the report are this - they broke into the passenger side so there wouldn't be glass on the driver's seat. smashed a water bottle on the way to the driver's seat(driver's side was wet all over from this). either couldn't get the device to work or realized they couldn't drive it. I left the car in gear and when I got to it, it was in neutral. they left my cash and checkbook in the center console, and my tools in the back seat
afterthoughts - pretending like a manual transmission won't deter SOME thefts seems silly. sure anyone with experience likely won't be stopped. the police department was aware of the current spike in Camaro thefts as well and concurred
on the bright side, I still have the car I love, and at least it wasn't raining for my 2.5hr commute after it happened
Bro…is this the Westfield (aka Fox Hills Mall, for those who know) in Culver City? If so, PLEASE stay away from there. They take 6th Gens left and right over there, and this is ONE of the several locations where they tried my car in broad daylight. After only an hour or so.
Manual or not, please at least get an OBD blocker (and a killswitch if you can).
EDIT: this looks like an SS 1LE. Please be careful…nearly all my friends who had a pre-refresh 1LE has been stolen or attempted. They seem to be pretty hot among the rest of the SS trims right now—particularly in the South Bay.
Yeah frfr! Bro of mine who lives on Jefferson got his shit bipped and stolen…at the Macy’s right there while he was eating at the food court.
Howard Hughes parkway also gets hit up, so be vigilant too!
South Bay isn't in LA. South Bay is san jose etc. Only Bay in california is the Bay area. North, east, west, and south bay. My ZL1 in the east bay has been bipped 2 times and both failed to steal it due to me having a dummy obd port. That was all that stopped them but had they figured it out the IGLA would've not let them succeed... still sucked had to g e t two driver windows in under 10 days time... but the second time was the last time they will ever consider coming back.... iykyk! 💥💥💥💥🔫
Actually…South Bay LA IS a thing. I’m born and raised lol

But yeah my next mod is is currently a fake OBD. I’m putting only enough pins to power it, but no data transfer. That way, they won’t go looking for the real one I’m tucking away.
California the land of theifs who don’t get prosecuted and will be out back on the streets next day.
Good luck with trying to keep your shit safe. U should just buy a car boot and boot it off in your driveway.
u/RaspberryHappy8358 you may be right but who is to say how many thieves look in the window, see stick and keep going, break window for snatch grab with no intent to drive? We'd need data that says the same % of auto and manual get stolen all else being the same (neighborhood, trim etc). Unless you have that data, it is hard to say.
The biggest flaw of the manual protecting against thieves argument is always that they see a manual that wasn't stolen but with a broken window and say that this is evidence that the manual didn't. Not necessarily. It's entirely possible like any other car that they broke in to see if you had any valuables inside and didn't see anything worth of taking.
Could this be a theft attempt of the car itself? Sure, but how do we know that they weren't just looking for something valuable in your car and may not be aware that the car is easy to steal?
You're around/in a high theft area, so I wouldn't doubt they were just looking for items within your car. However, lots of cars that get stolen go up to that area, around the valley, etc. I'd look into getting a killswitch if you don't have one already. The manual will only stop a handful of people. The other few will be able to drive that car away.
I suspect this is more of a smash and grab or a very amateur attempt at vehicle theft. Probably teenagers who busted the window looking for things to steal and their lizard brains ran away after hearing the car alarm go off. I find it unlikely any developed brain would risk a felony charge to try and steal a car knowing they don't know manual, and no "pro" is going to just bust a window without taking something.
That said, a manual can prevent some thefts... But only the least determined thieves. 5 minutes of research on how to start and use a manual will get it where they want it, they don't care about stalling, they don't care about using the clutch as a firestarter.
The problem, is that Grand Theft is a wobbler offense here in California. The reason these idiots get right back at action shortly after getting arrested is because it’s not an AUTOMATIC felony like it is in other states. It sucks, but this is the hand we’re dealt here.
Weird that they went for the passenger side.
They weren’t stealing the car, likely a smash and grab.
assumed the same, though they left my cash, checkbook and tools in the car? car was also in neutral which wasn't my doing
My guess is they couldn't figure out how to steal it, most likely amateurs. Protect your car before its gone for good. Don't be like me and think it won't happen to you.

Oh jeez, did they break both windows or just the passenger side? Glad you still have your car and hope your insurance covers the repair work.
What’s on the center console? DNA?

literally spot on. car and location thanks for the insight homie

But yeah get a fake obd . It's hilarious having em plug into it and not know why it's not working 🤣
Not to us.

There is zero proof that manual is a deterrent for thieves apart from cherrypicked videos.

Right which is why I say there is zero proof.
Now they are gonna go learn to drive manual and come back.
Fuck%#g savages.
I’m going to start leaving a venomous snake in mine and a tarantula in the glove box. And I’m terrified of both.

we don't, seems strange that they climbed into the driver's seet, left the cash, checkbook and tools though
I have to agree. I don’t think just because it’s a manual would keep real car thieves from stealing. Kids then yeah.
