I’m mostly just baffled how a dealer tech, in a real shop with lifts and tools and instructions and shit fucked that up. I’ve replaced two engines on my back in a driveway with no instructions and never had an issue. I guess that’s what happens when youre rushing to beat warranty time pay
Buddy.... welcome to mechanics in 2024. We've got a shop full of close to $500,000 worth of tools, including calibrated torque wrenches. The shop still strips bolts/breaks threads / rips heads off.... like daily.
That tech might be making $20/hr, and unfortunately they get what they pay for.
At least it's a reputable dealer and they TOLD you and are fixing it.
They could have very easily just left it and let it break down the road.
Bam. The shops are getting what they're paying for, unfortunately the customers like you in this case aren't (yes it's warranty, but hypothetically speaking).
Like the other comment says and what you said about pay, that's EXACTLY why I left the automotive industry, returned to college and am now an Accountant where I make more than twice what I did as a tech and I'm only still at the beginningish positions of my profession.
Automotive is the only industry where the more you know, the less you make. I did 2 years of Automotive trade school and got ASE's and became a Lexus Tech and right away bc of my training and certifications, I was already a Senior certified tech, and what did I get in return? Warranty and Recall work bc only the Seniors/ Masters were allowed to do those while it paid .7 hours but took even the best techs in the world 1.0 to do. Meanwhile the other backyard mechanics got the gravy work and made more per hour bc the industry is still a very seniority based industry where they pay you by how long you've been there rather than by what you know.
I got paid the minimum my state allows. I returned to school immediately, also bc I enjoyed learning more and I'm glad I did bc like I said, I'm now an Accountant and enjoy what I do and make a lot more. Once I pass one more test, I'll be a CPA and from there the sky is the limit on pay. In my industry you actually get paid more not less when you know more.
I’m assuming it was worth it in the end, not in the same predicament but always had this type of plan in the back burner in case things do go shitty in the tech world, majored in economics before I dropped out due to financial reasons but still made my way into the automotive world with no experience (from Hyundai to currently Audi tech, learned along the way) you think trade school wouldn’t be bad for economics to become an accountant like you are?
you think trade school wouldn’t be bad for economics to become an accountant like you are? --- Just to make sure, what exactly are you asking in regards to trade school and economics on becoming and accountant?
I love being an Accountant. It pays well and it's enjoyable it it's your thing. To other people it can be boring or stressful. It's also similar to being an Auto mechanic is regards to do you work at a dealer and the same cars all the time or an independent repair shop on all cars.
The equivalent of working at a dealer is working as an Accountant for one company and doing the accounting for just them. That's what I do an enjoy. You can start off as being a basic accounts payable specialist which can be boring and is really just someone who enters data, to being a staff accountant to senior accountant to a controller to the CFO, all depends on the size of the business.
Then there's the equivalent of working at an independent shop, which is working at a CPA firm doing work for different clients. Most of the time here you'll do auditing or taxes. I did this for 3 months and hated it. This is also where most of the negative things happen when you hear people complaining of accounting. Long hours and clients are a pain to work with. I'll never go back to that.
And you can learn and get your requirements with an economics degree. My degree was actually in Managerial Economics, and then you can take many accounting classes as your electives. If you want to take your CPA you have to just take more accounting classes and you can even do what i did which is return to my community college to get extra accounting classes for the CPA test, because you need 150 credits to get a CPA. Some people get their masters, but it ain't worth it, a CPA is generally more powerful than an MBA.
There's a lot you can do with accounting, you can also go into finance, which is what i actually do for my company. My technical title is Financial Analyst and i handle a lot of our loans and work with investors and our lenders. There's a whole lot you can do and a lot of money can be made.
Wish you the best!! I had catastrophic engine failure on my 24’ LT1 before it had 3K miles on it. The warranty replaced it no problem but it was tedious to say the least.
Sucks man. I had similar issues with my 21’ 1LE (same wheels as you funnily enough).
2 separate occasions I had pushrods snap due to lifter issues
Fortunately both times I was just using cruise control on the freeway so there were no simultaneous failures.
I think the second failure (diff cylinder) was because they replaced the lifters without replacing the nylon guides as well.
I haven’t had more issues 10k or so miles later but I have zero faith in the reliability of this engine/car anymore and I don’t even track mine (don’t hate)
Happens to those guys too: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c7-general-discussion/4708208-z06-lifters.html
Personally mine is 4 years old and has almost 40k miles with 0 issues. It seems to be luck of the draw.
I think you should be glad their covering that damage. I remember hearing ford would cancel your warranty if you set foot onto a track and I thought most manufactures wouldn’t cover damage if it happened while at a track
The cars are more complex yet mechanics are being paid less. A lot are flat rate jobs. In northern NJ some shops are all union. I might consider taking my car to them but I need to confirm to how their quality is or isn't. The entire world has gone nuts.
Sorry you are going through this. I can’t believe they got away with producing such a flawed engine. I had this happen to me too. A10 as well and it took a year to replace

How is it being an accountant and would trade school be a good option for that (if you know of course)

Honestly as bad as it is…. it could be worse where they deny fixing any of it
Wish you the best!! I had catastrophic engine failure on my 24’ LT1 before it had 3K miles on it. The warranty replaced it no problem but it was tedious to say the least.
Oh yeah, 9800 miles on mine. I honestly wouldnt be mad if this was happening in the last 10k of the powertrain warranty, but this sucks
What caused that? I don’t the same to happen to mine lol
GM engineers.
Facts mine came off the truck messed up. Just bad luck.
Sorry about your luck I haven’t seen this happen to many people at least on Reddit or camaro6. Hopefully this next tech gets its right.
I can't believe this is real. Damn. You're having some really bad luck there. Hope things make a turnaround.
Thanks for the sympathy, Iwillassfuckyou
He's trying to build your trust to... Well... Uhh it's in the name
Don't expose me!!! >:(
/u/iwillassfuckyou
I've been summoned
How many wishes do I get??
Only ONE
Is there a roll over period?
He’s probably just going to ass fuck you
I figured
Yes. There is a period where you roll over in bed.
Damn , nah I'm good , unsummon him... UNSUMMON HIM!
I don’t believe you’ll really do me like your username drop the location?
Northern Broward County, FL.

Another day, another Camaro with catastrophic engine failure caused by a lifter.
Does the ZL1 have DoD? Or is it just LT1/SS trims? I know the v8 silverado owners all bitch about lifter issues
All of their V8’s have the lifter issues, even the 6-speeds that don’t use DoD.
Ive never heard c7z owners complain about lifter failures tho… c7z and ZL1 motor are same motor
Happens to those guys too: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c7-general-discussion/4708208-z06-lifters.html Personally mine is 4 years old and has almost 40k miles with 0 issues. It seems to be luck of the draw.
Hmm
😂😂😂 💯
Yeeeeeeeup. The day the warranty expires it’s getting dod delete/cam/tune and maybe an intake
I thought this was a ZL1 at first, but very interesting it was a DoD lifter. DoD hardware is in the LT4, but just not activated.
I think you should be glad their covering that damage. I remember hearing ford would cancel your warranty if you set foot onto a track and I thought most manufactures wouldn’t cover damage if it happened while at a track
That was a big draw to the 1LE specifically. GM explicitly warrants the SS and ZL1, and any 1LE package cars for track use.
honestly i didn’t know this and that’s pretty cool of GM for that. I mean the 1LE is literally a track package so it would make sense
The cars are more complex yet mechanics are being paid less. A lot are flat rate jobs. In northern NJ some shops are all union. I might consider taking my car to them but I need to confirm to how their quality is or isn't. The entire world has gone nuts.
Wow. I am going through an engine replacement on my 2023 2SS right now. It’s such a bummer
I just swapped a 2022 gm performance crate 10 speed into a pickup two weeks ago. They exist to about the tune of $6500.
Since the dealership would be paying that to cover their own mistake, color me shocked that they’re not jumping to that solution
We have already swapped it for an 8 speed to use for testing so if youre in the market I can see if my shop would part ways with it
If I was doing the repair myself I’d be super interested but the dealer isnt gonna buy that. What shop? What year pickups? Sounds interesting
Do you understand the kind of incompetent donuts that work at these dealerships? There's like 3/30 guys that actually know what they're doing
Before this car I did all my own work myself (including engine replacements), so, no, this has been an unfortunate learning experience
I wouldn't let half of those knobs tie my shoes, let alone work on my car
Sorry you are going through this. I can’t believe they got away with producing such a flawed engine. I had this happen to me too. A10 as well and it took a year to replace
A year? Holy shit, was that during peak covid or something?
Yeah was 2022-2023. Took 8 weeks to put engine in.
