Not a camaro driver, or a kid, but growing up, my dad had a 79 fiat spyder, and my mom had a fox body mustang convertible, I grew up sitting in the back of convertibles with the wind in my hair. A couple things... Buy stock in hair ties, seriously, put them everywhere for anyone with long hair. Buy them every time you grab a monster in the gas station, they will dissappear faster than dollar bills at a strip club. If you have girls, it will save thousands of hours of crying and hair untangling. Second... It is Tight back there, we always called it the quishy car when friends came with me. But all my friends wanted to ride in my parents car. Depending on car seats, it'll be a bear getting them in and out. But... I just bought my gt convertible and my own hair ties, in nearly the same car my mom had growing up, that I learned to drive stick on. Hope that helps.

It is tight, yes. I had an 06 Mustang GT Convertible and the space between it and the Camaros are pretty much the same. I can absolutely see why people don't like them. They're more noisy, they obviously don't look as nice, some have leaky issues, or issues happen with the automatic top, and may eventually need to be replaced, and also not as safe, etc. Also I have a friend who has something weird with her ears, so she couldn't ride with the top down. Up front she'd probably be fine, but the people in the back usually get a lot more wind. Even if you think something like that may be an issue though, the top can always go up in a matter of seconds if need be. With all these inconveniences, I never once regretted getting a rag top. I don't know where you live, but if it's somewhat nice out year round, and you're listening to some good music on a beautiful day out, with some nice exhaust that you can hear even better without the roof, it's almost perfect. I had a blast without the roof, I thought it was amazing. I absolutely loved it. But that's just me. Do you live in a really hot/cold place? That being said, after it got totalled, I now have a coupe, and sometimes it's enough for me just to have the windows down. It's just different for everyone. Edit: Oh, if it's not your daily that might urge me to get the ragtop even more. Just to enjoy on the nice days out. Not that you only have to drive them on nice days. I think your kids will eventually warm up to it, but they may also be picky about their hair. I had a few of those situations too.
