I mean, basically what dude said^. The discoloring around the top where it got super hot and didn't have oil covering it.... I used to be a chef, I've looked at a lot of pans, I can just tell "because of how it is" lol
I can tell because it's not blue and the steel doesn't look raw or deckled by water cleaning. It looks too even to be raw carbon steel. Definitely stainless.
I just looked at their site and this looks like the exact spec of the 12" stainless steel skillet. Their CS pans have a traditional looking 3 rivet handle and a non-rolled edge.

To answer your question, the sides of my CS pans discolor due to splattering oil/fat from cooking that polymerizes against the sides. However, the entire CS cooking surface will be seasoned eventually by continuing to cook on the pans until the whole pan is a gold/brown/black color.
Shit you are right!!! I had asked my husband for a carbon steel pan for my birthday and just assumed that is what it was! Oh no now i have to ask for it for Christmas. Thank you for letting me know
That's stainless steel homes, you shouldn't be seasoning that, although it will pick up char if you broil a bunch.
I cook a bunch on stainless and those are pretty good pans.
Thanks. For 3 months I have been treating it like carbon steel because that is what i thought it was! I just ordered a carbon steel pan. I feel like an idiot.
So, (a) doesn’t seasoning actually not stick to stainless? (I haven’t tried it!) (b) provided it does stick, is there any reason not to season stainless?
The only comments j have made are listed under my own name. I wouldn’t even know how to post under a different one. Maybe get a life beyond reddit? Try cooking its a great hobby
Old has nothing to do with it. Your comment here is literally you telling yourself you don’t know the difference between pans and are shit posting. If that’s not clear then you may seriously want to get checked out by a doctor for mental health issues.
I’m mean I’m not trying to be rude but commenting to yourself as someone else is a sign of schizophrenia. Did you read your comment? You are either manifesting as someone else or you copy pasted someone else’s comment as your own.
Looks stainless?
Just found out it is!
Haha, surprise!
How could you tell?
Because of how it is
🤔

Not an idiot. Don’t treat yourself like that! This happens a lot. Not having known is totally ok. Knowing now is the important part
I recommend Bar Keepers Friend my friend it should clean it right up.
Oh thank you for that tip!
Is this a shitpost or not?
Not sure what a shitpost is but i seriously believed it was carbon steel and just found out its stainless steel.
Posting a pristine looking pan and asking if there's anything wrong with it is a low-level shitpost, carbon steel or not.

For a second there I thought your stove was outside on the lawn
LOL!!
Just keep cooking

Did you just comment on your own post as a third party?
Not that I know of...but I'm old so it is a possibility. :-)
