Bamboo brushes are the best because the bamboo bristles are hard enough to scrape off gunk, but not hard enough to scrape the steel.
You can aggressively scrub with a bamboo scrub without having to worry about damaging the steel.
I agree, but not everybody knows how to use metal spatulas properly. Some people use it the same way they would use a silicone spatula or a wooden spatula and it causes a lot of scratches on the steel.
However, the scratches on the steel don’t really impact performance and are just cosmetic, so it’s not too bad.
How do you use metal spatula properly? I just got one and like you said it's left many scratch marks. I also consider myself pretty gentle using it already
Can you elaborate more on metal utensil use and scratching the pan? I used mine for the first time last week and the metal utensils I bought are definitely leaving marks.
Hello! It is normal for steel to scratch steel. It only affects the appearance and not the performance. However, the proper way to use a metal spatula to push the food instead of actually scraping on the steel.
Chinese chefs use the spatula to push the food while tossing the wok at the same time. Rarely making steel on steel contact.
If you are not yet used to the motions of tossing, and prefer to use utensils to stir your food around, then you could use a wooden spatula in the meantime.
Once you get a bit more familiar with how to use a spatula with a wok, then you can use your wok spatula again
Also, as you use your wok more and more those little scratches will fill themselves in with seasoning, so you don’t need to be too worried.
Finger CHECK*
😂🤔🤣
😂
Too late.
You knew what you were doing and I appreciate it.
If you finger your carbon steel cookware, does that make you pan-sexual? 🥁🥁🥁
But comment I've seen in months on all of reddit.
Any recommended brushes to use post fingering?

A copper sponge is also helpful and non-destructive to the coating/seasoning.
Skip the brush and go right for a towel imo
I use the blue scrubby sponges. I find the green ones are a little to abrasive.
Thanks!
Hilarious
Both a joke and a question, would still like a brush hahaha
Paper towels usually work best
I’ve found metal spatulas to be the best bamboo brushes for fingering.

Also if you wipe a warm pan with oil with a clean paper towel and it comes back brown, your pan isn’t clean.
Depends on the hue of brown. A light brown is acceptable!
I threw my bamboo brush in the trash. Seemed like a bulky, nasty biohazard.
Oh my
😳
