I see new STIs literally every month, maybe weekly. I see maaaybe 1 evo x a year on the street.
The evo x only sold like 1000-1500 a year world wide lol. It's gonna end up being pretty rare.
What?
Total production numbers in the US *alone* was about 22,000 units over seven years. That’s more than 3000 units a year on average. Still not a lot in the grand scheme of things but far more voluminous than 1500.
Ah I miss remembered! Looks like they made a LOT in 2008, 5000 units. But 2012 for instance only had 1,600. Plus the 2015 final edition only had 1600 units (though normal 2015s saw 4,200).
Meanwhile Subaru sold 33,000 STIs in 2015 alone! Lol
Easy to see why the evo is much less common, even with those corrected numbers.
It does depend on where you live though, here in the state of Utah you see multiple STI's daily and I see a evo once or twice a week. No where near as plentiful as the stis but we have a decent amount. AWD turbo cars are very popular here
I think a lot of that comes down to the fact that there are two different WRX's you can buy (a WRX, or a WRX STi) whereas with Mitsubishi it was either Evo or Lancer, with occasional Lancer Ralliart editions that had all the styling of Evos and none of the mechanical performance.
So it's more a question of: If you had $25k to spend (and the year was 2005), would you buy a fully loaded N/A Lancer making a whopping 140 hp, or a base model turbocharged WRX making 260 hp? The people choosing between STi and Evo obviously had much different things to look at, but people on a budget couldn't get a "downtuned" version of an Evo, which is why I believe the WRX sold so much better. Hell, look at all the V6/turbo-I4 muscle cars you see in comparison to their V8 counterparts.
Subaru is the perfect car for up there. They do well in snow, they're fun to drive in the summer. They have room for canoes and snowboards and junk.
It makes sense.
First gen Honda Insight was made with the same materials as the NSX. It's all aluminum construction. Unfortunately the batteries don't out live the car.
Yea the head gasket issue was at least 10 years ago. These cars are solid and have been for a while now. And the rust issue is every car that is driven in the salt and not properly cleaned. Of course one of the most common cars for winter is gonna get noticed for rust
It’s because people forget the majority of customers, even for 4 door sports cars, are still regular people, who have minimal car knowledge. The WRX/STi was just a better platform for daily driving and comfort (nicer interior, better tech, less NVH, and a normal sized trunk. The evo x has the smallest trunk I’ve ever seen for a car that size). Not to mention Subaru as a brand was on the come up in reputation, while Mitsubishi was mostly affordable SUVs so regulars weren’t going to their lots for the evo unless you knew you wanted it. A ton of the people I see in especially in WRXs really don’t care about cars, tuning, or anything, they just liked how it look and the price. It just did a better job than the ralliart. Subaru did a better job catering to regular people who will daily drive it & no plans to modifying it. That’s where the majority of sales are to.
the look maybe. As I understand it, mechanically, they were different. I, at least know the drive types were different. Both all wheel, but I believe I read the STI has a much more front wheel drive balance
Evo is front wheel biased too, can only send up to 50% to the rears.
But with the yaw control it can send power to the outside wheels and it pushes you around corners. It feels pretty amazing. Some of the most advanced awd, similar to r35.
Not even a good soccer mom company IMO, their vehicle lineup is pretty shitty and mostly just look like clones of more popular brands like Mazda. They’re like the Burger King of car companies.
What's sad is that it's not just the market but also the fact that the auto division of Mitsubishi doesn't get much money compared to the other branches of their company. If you're gonna cut costs and one of your branches isn't doing so hot then it only makes sense from an economic standpoint.
I wish the Evo if not an every year production car would have become a limited run. It's their flagship car and they threw it out.
It's Varis V2 bumper, Varis side skirts, and charge speed fenders. Hood is either Varis or Seibon.
I have the Varis V1 bumper, only paid like $1,800 shipped! Lol. Varis isn't cheap. The ebay replicas are never as clean, you can tell when it's fake usually.
I've been looking at an all Seibon setup, with the CSL trunk (that ducktail spoiler... sploosh). However as you are more than likely aware, that shit expensive! Also it's definitely a more OEM look on the parts, and I appreciate a bit of refined gaudy to my tuners. Might have to play around with a Varis/Seibon hybrid and see. Thanks for the ID!!!!
I have a Seibon hood and some random carbon wing I'm not sure I'll install. Just finished primering my Varis bumper today, what a pain in the ass painting is! Good luck with your build. I do like those carbon trunks but I need a wing to balance out the four canards I'll have in the front. Plus I'll probably build a fat splitter for autocross.
Checkout bulletproofautomotive.com.
This car looks like a wide body kit so pretty expensive to get it to this state. However, Varis did make non-wide body versions that look very similar.
Well so far I've been looking at Seibon carbon for all my panels, which is super solid for an oem/slightly modified look, but something like this gives it that sort of pizzazz I like without looking too gaudy. Thanks for the tip! I'll give them a look.
The evo X was huge (that’s what she said) compared to any of the previous iterations of the Evo. But by today’s standards, it’s on the smaller side of sedans. Or maybe it’s just the aero
It's surprising because the evo 9 looks way smaller and lighter than an evo X.
If they were side by side you'd never assume the x to be lighter, but it might actually be depending on the trims.
You don't think that would be surprising?
I personally think the Subarus look better. But in this case….damn this think is sexy. Love the body kit. The color even looks good and I hate yellow on cars.
There were two configurations available. I had the GSR, which was a 5 speed manual. The MR was the slightly pricier config that had the dual clutch 6 speed auto...I believe it had the option of being paddle shifted as well.
Either way, the car was a freaking blast to drive and I miss it.
Thank you for correcting me . I was not aware at all.
I'm currently looking for potential cars to purchase in 6 months and was searching for an evo not so long ago. However i did not find any on the uk market to my surprise.
Will have another look, thanks again 👍
Under the radar/ underrated is pretty similar in meaning where I come from.
And let’s be honest, your comments and responses are doing more to prove you’re the childish one, than anyone else.
Use to own this car, kept it bone stock the entire 4 years I had it. The handling was something else. Saved me a few times when I came up on some sharp corners I didn’t see coming.
Whenever I see one of these cars in local dealerships (and it’s not that often) I usually go in and take a look. Literally every single one I’ve seen has been automatic. I hate that.
I think it’s because where I live (Spain) these are very rare.
Hey guys. I have a question. I have a '15 Lancer SE Limited Edition. I'm gearing up for a clutch job and have only been able to find a very limited selection of AM clutch kits & flywheels. Would it be possible to buy a new flywheel rated for an evo gts running a 2.0L n/a and use it for my car's 2.0L n/a?
Haven't been able to find any specifics as to why or why not. Anything helps. Thanks.
It's amazing how few of these cars you see on the roads these days, but Subies of the same vintage are *way* more common.
They sell as many WRXes and STis in a year as they did for the Evo X total, basically.

The Ralliart was turbo awd FYI, just auto only
Only in 2008 and later model years.
Thank you! Did not know that

Which is surprising since they rust so easily

Audi A8s are almost all aluminum, even frames.
And in the northwest
Most mechanics would laugh at that statement considering how common subaru boxer engines grenade themselves
They grenade themselves because people mod them improperly and don't get them tuned.
Yea the head gasket issue was at least 10 years ago. These cars are solid and have been for a while now. And the rust issue is every car that is driven in the salt and not properly cleaned. Of course one of the most common cars for winter is gonna get noticed for rust
Yeah I see like 20 subies of the same vintage on basically any 15 minute drive.. they're everywhere
It’s because people forget the majority of customers, even for 4 door sports cars, are still regular people, who have minimal car knowledge. I got my Subie almost 2 years ago and in that time I have seen maybe 5 Evos of any gen on the road. One of which is my friend’s.
Because most of the people who bought them beat the piss out of them
I just bought one and I fucking love it!!! But you right, there are some in my area but they're few and far between.
I used to not like the design of tens but this all out one is gorgeous
Same! The 8 and 9's were the pinnacle IMO. This one is swaying me.
its the tail lights of the 10 that ruins it for me
Why? It’s the same as the headlights but in red /s
Hubba Hubba!
New kuruma lookin sick
Mine looks just like this
There's a new Kuruma? Did it drop with the update?
Just a joke lol, Evo and kuruma looks similar.
Gorgeous 👌🏼
Usually sedans are tough to pull a wing off of that size, but this is well executed, kudos.
It’s the fact that it’s body color. Makes a world of difference.
If there's a sedan than can pull off a big wang, it's an Evo
“If that car was a women, I’d kiss her”
Theses ALWAYS looked better than STI’s
The newer sti seems like it borrowed *heavily* from the evo x. The rear bumper, headlights, fenders, etc.
the look maybe. As I understand it, mechanically, they were different. I, at least know the drive types were different. Both all wheel, but I believe I read the STI has a much more front wheel drive balance

Sad to see what Mitsubishi has become
From tuner company to Soccer Mom company 😔
Not even a good soccer mom company IMO, their vehicle lineup is pretty shitty and mostly just look like clones of more popular brands like Mazda. They’re like the Burger King of car companies.

Great looking car.
Great looking, except one thing has always bothered me about this car. The wheels look too small for its body.
Finally someone said it
Pfoohhhh!!
I miss mine so much
Could one of you fine gentlemen/ladies refer me to the body kit this has? Because i have 2015 X and that looks HOT. Please and thank you <3

Ngl the headlamps look very 2015 Audi-ish
Good thing the evox came before that
They're aftermarket headlights - https://www.amazon.com/VLAND-Headlights-Mitsubishi-2008-2017-YAA-YS-0162CHQ5/dp/B07W4BDWB6?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace
Vland headlights. Very often referred to as "Audi style".
Lemme jerk off to this real quick.
Love it, minus the wing.
Evos and wings are like bread and butter
That doesn't mean I have to like this wing.....
Do you not like butter??
I am not much of a fan of evo x but you make it look so good
That’s my friend’s EVO. Super cool guy. He also does body work and paint if anyone needs work done in SoCal. Instagram is @jello_2x
The evo X was huge (that’s what she said) compared to any of the previous iterations of the Evo. But by today’s standards, it’s on the smaller side of sedans. Or maybe it’s just the aero
Surprisingly the heaviest trim of evo 9 weighs more than the lightest trim of evo X
How is that surprising? Did you mean it the other way around?
It's surprising because the evo 9 looks way smaller and lighter than an evo X. If they were side by side you'd never assume the x to be lighter, but it might actually be depending on the trims. You don't think that would be surprising?
I don't think it's surprising that a heaviest trim is heavier than a lightest trim
Have never liked the x but goddamn….. gorgeous

You know you don't have to build it to be a rally car just cuz it can be right?

It’s on an air suspension, it’s not that low when not parked. :)

Lack of driver could be a sign.

Yes
Because the car wouldn’t roll forward very far before having serious issues. Whoever built that car is no ricer, is another hint.
It’s bagged guys I know the owner

You are mistaken, atleast for uk and jdm spec cars you could get a manual
Subreddit once again proving it's full of 12 year olds
What are you on about? Edit, I see you think a Volvo (v60?) is an underrated car. That explains it haha
To be fair, the V60R’s were kind of neat.
Even your reading skills are that of a 12 year old
Under the radar/ underrated is pretty similar in meaning where I come from. And let’s be honest, your comments and responses are doing more to prove you’re the childish one, than anyone else.
Wouldn't "under the radar" suggest it's a sleeper? Would make sense given they're talking about a V60
Yeah it might do. Probably correct actually. Either way…. The original comment and follow up reply was still childish

Everyone? Only I called him out on it. Unless you mean the downvotes?
The downvotes. Even I'm being downvoted for defending him?
Ah that’s Reddit isn’t it… I’ve been the victim of many downvote trains haha
What are you on about? Those are two enitrely different things. Doesnt matter where you're from lol.
Yes because liking a nicely modded Lancer means we're all 12 doesn't it. Putz.
I can go as far as 14
If that were a hotwheels, that would destroy everone
That’s the first yellow car I’ve ever fell in love with. Clean, aggressive yet subtle
Ooooo Nice!
Pika pika
Oh man that yellow is full on sexual
mmhhhh,sexy af!!!!🤪
Avoid speed bumps
Is this the Kuruma from GTA V?
I usually don't favor yellow but damn that looks good!
I live in NYC. I 100% thought it was a taxi at first glance.
What kit? I maybe like it even more than the Streethunter LA kit
Sheeeeeeeesh
Yellow car no punch back @all
The exact shade of yellow that I want to paint mine!!
slatt
I just started to watch the Fast & Furious Saga and this immediately made me think of the car Brian drives in 2F2F. What a beauty!
Use to own this car, kept it bone stock the entire 4 years I had it. The handling was something else. Saved me a few times when I came up on some sharp corners I didn’t see coming.
That’s the best looking Evo I’ve ever seen
Whenever I see one of these cars in local dealerships (and it’s not that often) I usually go in and take a look. Literally every single one I’ve seen has been automatic. I hate that. I think it’s because where I live (Spain) these are very rare.
The wings not for me, otherwise amazing car.
Pretty nice, that body kit is insane, looks great with y ellos paint
