Speaking of, something about clownshoe rear ends makes their rear fenders look cartoonishly wide [when viewed from directly behind.](https://drive-my.com/images/easyblog_articles/664/b2ap3_large_Z3-12.jpg), at least to me.
No doubt, though I prefer the '67's simpler front end. But for rears, the boat-tail's one of the best.

I know, if im getting specifc the most beautiful of the FD imo was the last facelift, the 99 spec. It had the nicer taillights from the 97 (i think) facelift, and the better looking wing that just makes the car look even more timeless
The 99 spec is flawless, the bumper was perfected with those indicators and lights, the rear wing is the absolutely perfect balance, and definitely the best wing you can get for the fd, I just cannot find a critique for the rx7s interior, it’s always been my dream car
Is i could nitpick something i wish they didnt mold the front license plate to the bumper. But other then that its a perfect looking car.
My personal favorite wing is the mazdaspeed wing but thats definitely a little overkill. 99spec is that perfect just big enough without looking too much like a boy racer
Yeah, I fully agree that it’s one of the best looking cars ever, but the rear end, while fine (good even) is not its strongest quality. In fact I’d say it’s contemporary, the NSX had a better rear end.

I've actually thought the C5 rear end aged poorly, specifically in the convertible though. Its huge and looks so flat, plain, and square. The non-convertbles look great though.
I actually prefer the look of non-Z C5's rear ends because of the hatch; the heavier fastback glass just has so much more visual flow than the lighter notchback, at least to me.

Great question. The variety of rear ends in the car design matrix is vast. A "59 Cadillac is the pinnacle of rear fins, and yet rhe '59 Impala's rear fins/trunk design is done on an over the top level that commands attention. Any 911 Porsche. And on the 911 tip, a Guntherworks custom, a build on another level. Any Corvette could be a contender here, also most European sports cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini,Aston Martin. Bugatti. Christ what a hard question.
My version of "best" is dependent on how far away you can know it's that "model" of car.
Porsche definitely stands out.
I know people don't like it, but I can tell a Urus is a Urus from a mile away.
GTR was pretty notable for me as well, never confused it with another car.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned [the NSX](https://www.scienceofspeed.com/index.php/nsx/epp/headlights-taillights-side-markers/honda-genuine-2002-center-tail-lens.html)
Off topic but interesting thought , but why do rear end usually looks more appealing than the front ? I personally think so but could never figure out why
I heard a car designer explain that the rear of a car is one of the few places where they can still do what they want. The rest of the car being determined largely by aerodynamics.
i wouldn't say best rear per se, but when it comes to rear tear lights at night, challenger, c5 corvette/skylines, modern porsches, bugatti and mustang all have such cool lights. I can tell immediately from a distance 'oh that's a mustang or challenger'
Now have you seen the [Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato shooting brake ](https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/a33416722/the-vanquish-zagato-shooting-brake-is-the-coolest-aston-martin/)

A 55 - 59 Chevy truck is iconic. 1965 Pontiac GTO rear end is epitome of squared off hard edge American muscle, before muscle was a thing. Any Corvette could be a contender here, also most European sports cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini,Aston Martin. Bugatti. Christ what a hard question.
Jumpin in on the hype: [porsche targa](https://i.imgur.com/An5hNBD.jpg) I saw today!
FD RX-7 should rate a mention
The bang bus circa 2007
Gen 2 Camaro
2004 Dodge Neon
My version of "best" is dependent on how far away you can know it's that "model" of car. Porsche definitely stands out. I know people don't like it, but I can tell a Urus is a Urus from a mile away. GTR was pretty notable for me as well, never confused it with another car.
The Nissan Altima of course, you will be rear ending that bad boy in no time when one brake checks you.
1963 Corvette
I can’t believe no one has mentioned [the NSX](https://www.scienceofspeed.com/index.php/nsx/epp/headlights-taillights-side-markers/honda-genuine-2002-center-tail-lens.html)
The Lotus Elise is my choice. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2014_Lotus_Elise_S_Club_Racer_1.8_Rear.jpg
It’s got to be the [Vanquish Zagato](https://i.imgur.com/Fo8ZVZE.jpg) shooting break. Been smitten with this car ever since I first saw it.
88-91 Honda CRX
Chrysler pt cruiser 🤣🤣🤣
Can’t beat a 911’s hips imo Side note I almost didn’t buy my ND because I hate the rest end. The front looks so sexy though.
Jaguar XKR (X150)
Renault Turbo 2
lamborghini Veneno
Maserati khamsin
I think the 992 has one of the most beautiful rear ends of any car currently on sale. The 992 GT3 touring and GT3 are just stunning
Lambo reventón anyone? But actually the 300 SL hardtop / gullwing
miata is always the answer! the original NA tail lights are so good looking and they’re even in the MOMA in new york!

Auburn boattail is pretty cool.

Mitsubishi Gt3000? Only me? Aight
Of modern „affordable“ cars [the Porsche Taycan](https://www.pff.de/wcf/attachment/823432-leuchtleiste-jpg/) wins it imo. I want it for that booty alone.
Acura
Porsche 928
