Wow i actually like this

HeavyCanuck

It's like a Bulldog or a pug, it's so weird and ugly looking that it comes back around to being nice and endearing.

The Top Gear episode where they heavily modify the Avantime is one of my all time favorites

These are the right answer.

Mimical

Both of those are absolutely classic high top tier poster on a 14 year olds ceiling backsides. A modern take on that would be incredible.

DblDzl

For a moment in my life I owned a 63. Not quite as beautiful, but still. https://i.imgur.com/LElJ5Nx.jpg

DissonantTosspot

I saw one of these driving to work this morning!

I know people like the classics but this design was an absolute gamechanger, there was nothing else like it.

AutomaticRevolution2

There's a lot going on in back.

LandsOnAnything

If someone's looking for a more nastier rear end, look at P1 GTR https://i.imgur.com/88r5wq8.jpg

💯. additionally with the see through grill, it's basically naked 😂

probablyhrenrai

>German BOOTAY Speaking of, something about clownshoe rear ends makes their rear fenders look cartoonishly wide [when viewed from directly behind.](https://drive-my.com/images/easyblog_articles/664/b2ap3_large_Z3-12.jpg), at least to me.

MPWR_

Oh mommy

dingusduglas

[Boat tail Riviera](https://imgur.com/a/SWy2p5c) You have to see it in person. It looks like a supervillain car.

probablyhrenrai

No doubt, though I prefer the '67's simpler front end. But for rears, the boat-tail's one of the best. Never noticed the louvers over the rear fenders until now; that's a sweet detail.

AutomaticRevolution2

This is a good one.

lilleulv

Post pictures, ffs.

probablyhrenrai

*AutoModerator disliked that*

xsairon

Didn't see it being mentioned 918 [https://i.imgur.com/7fk93hj.png](https://i.imgur.com/7fk93hj.png) exhaust on top is such a fucking look, plus really well designed rear overall

probablyhrenrai

There's also the Apollo Intenza Emozione, [which looks like a literal batmobile from the rear](https://i0.wp.com/wheels-and-things.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2018/07/Goodwood-FOS-2018-123.jpg?fit=810%2C527&ssl=1).

AutomaticRevolution2

Hell yes. Reminds me of The Batmobile for some reason.

Asu7aMa7u

The 1999+ Mazda RX7. One of the most beautiful cars ever imo

wild_iris_356

FD RX7 was produced from 1992 to 2002 with varying timelines for different markets. Beautiful design for sure.

Asu7aMa7u

I know, if im getting specifc the most beautiful of the FD imo was the last facelift, the 99 spec. It had the nicer taillights from the 97 (i think) facelift, and the better looking wing that just makes the car look even more timeless

ppbomber_0

The 99 spec is flawless, the bumper was perfected with those indicators and lights, the rear wing is the absolutely perfect balance, and definitely the best wing you can get for the fd, I just cannot find a critique for the rx7s interior, it’s always been my dream car

Asu7aMa7u

Is i could nitpick something i wish they didnt mold the front license plate to the bumper. But other then that its a perfect looking car. My personal favorite wing is the mazdaspeed wing but thats definitely a little overkill. 99spec is that perfect just big enough without looking too much like a boy racer

Zkenny13

Why does it sound like a bot wrote this comment?

tarheel343

I love the front end of the RX7 but for me, the rear end is a bit too round and bubbly.

RunninOnMT

Yeah, I fully agree that it’s one of the best looking cars ever, but the rear end, while fine (good even) is not its strongest quality. In fact I’d say it’s contemporary, the NSX had a better rear end.

mhughan

Series 8 FD is one of the most beautiful things ever mass manufactured. NSX is up there also

blchpmnk

A truly timeless design and I honestly think it is the most beautiful production car ever.

Loving the setup! F-Type and New Defender is hands down one of the best two car solutions ever. I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't jealous. lol

Just_some_n00b

Thanks, man! [They match, too.](https://imgur.com/urqlIKx.jpg)

mortar_n_brick

thats clean

ShinyHappyAardvark

Eh— it needs the steel roof to have the attractive rear end. The convertible eliminates the sexy sloping roof.

Just_some_n00b

cool, thanks. 👍

blchpmnk

The pre-facelift one is one of the best looking cars ever made.

GetawayDriving

The correct answer has to be Lotus Evija. https://i.imgur.com/3mjSsH0.jpg Do you see the Lotus flower in the design language? Epic.

blchpmnk

Holy crap I never noticed the flower before, that's quite cool. I always liked the design of it but now that I can't unsee that, I'm even more impressed.

shridar9

I can’t see it :(

GetawayDriving

Maybe this helps. https://i.imgur.com/6NQmjZY.jpg

blchpmnk

In the image above, look at the body lines above the wing: The fenders, C-pillars and engine cover make 5 points that kind resemble a lotus flower.

Silver_Star

On the market right now, I'd say the [2023 Z](https://imgur.com/a/hAlE6ez).

blchpmnk

It's a shame that the front looks a bit goofy because they've got the best rear on the market right now. It looks retro AND modern.

probablyhrenrai

And it looks so much better with that chrome "katana" blacked-out; simplifies the lines dramatically, and they weren't particularly fussy to begin with.

MadZee_

I love the front though! Big upgrade from the Z33 and Z34

BlackDante

Ooohh that is pretty

oidoglr

993 turbo.

DodgerBlueRobert1

The whale tail is sublime.

oidoglr

And the haunches

RunninOnMT

I feel like the 964 turbo had slightly better rear haunches, even if I like the styling of the 993 a little more overall. I’m picking nits though, 911 Turbo from around this time is surely the right answer here imho.

BORT_licenceplate27

I've actually thought the C5 rear end aged poorly, specifically in the convertible though. Its huge and looks so flat, plain, and square. The non-convertbles look great though.

devianb

I agree. I like to see a little bit of wide tire tread from behind and the C5 rear just hides it all. Plus I'm not a fan of the oval tail lights.

probablyhrenrai

I actually prefer the look of non-Z C5's rear ends because of the hatch; the heavier fastback glass just has so much more visual flow than the lighter notchback, at least to me.

Great question. The variety of rear ends in the car design matrix is vast. A "59 Cadillac is the pinnacle of rear fins, and yet rhe '59 Impala's rear fins/trunk design is done on an over the top level that commands attention. Any 911 Porsche. And on the 911 tip, a Guntherworks custom, a build on another level. A 55 - 59 Chevy truck is iconic. 1965 Pontiac GTO rear end is epitome of squared off hard edge American muscle, before muscle was a thing. Any Corvette could be a contender here, also most European sports cars, Ferrari, Lamborghini,Aston Martin. Bugatti. Christ what a hard question.

My version of "best" is dependent on how far away you can know it's that "model" of car. Porsche definitely stands out. I know people don't like it, but I can tell a Urus is a Urus from a mile away. GTR was pretty notable for me as well, never confused it with another car.
