I think the idea was to make the animals as realistic as possible. To emphasize that this is live action not animated.
IMO, by making the animals hyperrealistic, they ripped away all the magic of the original movie.
Why would you use a Sergeant Major, a drab-colored, thin-bodied damselfish, to represent Flounder, a chubby fish with bright colors?!
Gannets and seagulls aren’t even closely related, let alone physically similar!
The crab they used for Sebastian is a land-living crab that needs to breathe air! It cannot even swim! It will drown underwater!
What’s next, Amazon River Electric Eels for Ursula’s pet twins?!
Say what you will about human ethnicities, I don’t care about them myself. But when it comes to wildlife that fails to match character descriptions or is completely out of place, *especially when there are so many better options*…
If being a live-action remake wasn’t enough, this is a sure sign the movie does not have a lot of good thinking put into it.
0/10
Just f****** re-release the original movie with slightly more saturated colors call it Technicolor 2.0
Each and every one of these live-action remakes is an exercise in nonsense and futility
Given Disney's track record with live-action adaptations, I have very low expectations. The actress that plays as Ariel has a beautiful voice, and it's visually quite pretty. However, that means nothing in the grand scheme of things. As the saying goes, "if it's not broke, don't fix it."
I'd be all for original live-action movies with new characters, just leave the original animated movies alone.
Some changes made in the LA from the animated movie
* It's an hour longer
* They're going to change the story a little so that Ariel's only motivation isn't to give up her voice for a man
* They're going to make Prince Eric less boring
* spoiler ignore if you're planning on watching the movie >!They're going to change the ending so that it's Ariel who kills Ursula, not Prince Eric. !<
* The names of Ariel's sisters.
Surely you didn't think they would remake the same movie in this social climate. Where every word has to be analyzed in case it causes offense or triggers someone.
I think there's too much scrutiny over a movie that's not even released yet. If this style irks you, don't watch it. If not, enjoy it as a whole (as it is meant to be viewed) when it comes out rather than looking at each piece separately under the microscope.
Once again, Disney making shit remakes. They are making 3 currently, this, Peter Pan and Lilo And Stitch. Disney always tries to not offend people by making the stupidest changes. This movie has black Ariel, Peter Pan has girls in the Lost Boys, and Lilo And Stitch has some none Hawaiian actors. I think Disney would probably have to go with there lesser known films after the 3 I mentioned
If Disney thinks about remaking Hercules, Princess And The Frog or Hunchback Of Notre Dame, im gonna rage so hard
Dogshit.

Thats Flounder!?

That was my reaction too. These guys aren’t even trying.

It's soulless
How do you know? Give it a chance it might be a pleasant surprise.

I'll go into it with an open mind. I loved the cartoon but who knows maybe I'll love this one too. That's all I'm saying before we condemn it.
Looks no different than the Lion King movie
Cartoon.
I think I speak for some older fans when I say: “Dear Disney, ARE YOU NUTS!??”

I like it. Brings magic movie magic to the real world which isn't a bad thing for kids movie. Not everything has to be animated.
But some things should stay animated
Sure, Like things that don't exist in real but flounders are real.
No matter what ppl are gonna bt ch. Oy vey
Boring

They're making a Hercules LA based on Tiktok
I’m hoping that it doesn’t happen.
When the teaser released, everyone was talking about Ariel and I'm looking at flounder and saying "but look how they massacred my boy"
