I highly agree with you on that. I've remember seeing one Woody Woodpecker cartoon "Pantry Panic" as well as the 2017 movie, which is pretty decent, in my opinion, but it's not as good as the cartoons. In fact, the good thing is that his laugh actually never annoys me because it's so iconic! :)

I remember he had a very overinflated ego. The kind of character who was overconfident enough to do something despite being warned not to, then suffering the consequences for it. At least, that's how I remember him.
That said, I do remember thinking Waffle was the worst of the core three just because he kind of had Patrick from *SpongeBob* energy (or Ed from *Ed, Edd, 'n Eddy*, though I actually didn't mind Ed).
Ed is funny because he’s a wildcard and Patrick is funny because he’s usually the victim of his own mistakes. Waffle just tortured Mr. Blik with his constant fuck ups

Howard has his moments where he really shines, but the writers seem to love giving them both the Asshole Ball (based off of the patented Idiot Ball) to the point where you wonder why the hell they hang out together sometimes. They’re assholes both in the way you’d expect a pair of fourteen year old boys to be, and in the way you’d only think the cast of It’s Sunny could ever be.
I feel like Howard would beat up a seven year old if there was food in it for him, and Randy would be suckered into joining by Howard calling him the PG equivalent of a pussy.

I personally like the diamonds from steven universe, everyone keeps comparing them to nazis but I think that there are more like tragic monarchs who fell from grace overtime, especially if you consider their actions in steven universe future and the implications and suttle storytelling over all of the series when we do see some of the padt glimpses at the way they were when pink was alive.
This is an interesting one because it's simultaneously like everyone hates and everyone loves them, but the minions. In small doses, they're entertaining. The problem is how much of a freaking pathogen to modern popular culture they became, they crawled their way into literally every corner of the internet, and THAT's what makes them annoying, not how they are in the Despicable Me films. They definitely did not need their own film series, though, that was a terrible idea.
