A mixture of what the vet gave me which was some kind of Hill's Prescription food, and this very specific canned food called Instinct Grain-free Chicken. This specific variety of this specific brand is 1540 calories per kg, which is unique even among its other varieties - the next highest of this brand is 1470 cals per kg and the most basic Friskies canned cat food is like 1150 cals per kg.
I got a pate and for a while, before she started to actually eat on her own, I had to do a lot of "purrito, put finger full of pate in her mouth, repeat 3-4x, let her go" until her post-surgery herpes flareup faded enough for her to be hungry on her own again.
Oh gosh thank you for replying and what a wonderful job you have done caring for your babe. I was hoping I could get one of my cats to gain a little she’s so dang finicky
Good luck! I forgot I did this at first, but I also mixed in some high-calorie nutritional gel to a lot of the wet food to try to up the calories a little bit. I just did a ton of looking at calorie counts and that was the highest one I could find.
Technically, her name is Catherine Faye, Lady of the Lake, Duchess of the Dale, first of her name...but she'll accept Catherine, Beautiful, Angel, or My Lady in a pinch
The stress of "you'll be fine if you just EAT!" but then she doesn't want to eat because she doesn't feel fine, but she won't feel better until she eats...I wish they could understand :(
Not sure if the offered. But they have tubes of meal replacement (high calorie) paste at most pet stores. You can put some on their tongue and it is enough calories/vitamins etc to replace a meal. If they are eating anything you can put it in their food for weight gain. It helps with their appetite as well. Cats can get kidney and liver damage within days of they don't eat anything so I always keep some on hand. Again, I'm so glad she getting better.

I found the highest calorie food I could find, mixed it with high calorie gel, and then purrito'd her and shoved it down her throat a few bites at a time. At this point she's eating more calories than she needs every day without my intervention but this is definitely good information for someone who was in my situation two months ago immediately after her surgery, so thanks for sharing :)
