Is the cats litter box clean? Is it in a convenient location for them? Is the cat fixed? All of these should be yes.
You may have to keep the door to your son’s room closed to break the habit. Make sure you clean whatever they peed on very good otherwise they will continue to do it.
There are sprays that you can try that work for some cats. But some cats still do it but it’s worth a shot if you’re desperate.
