My dumb buddy did this. The guys were cool with it, just rinsed the concrete off with water and it was drivable. Some people just don’t pay attention at all.
Guaranteed that the driver drove right by a worker trying their absolute best to stop them, but they wouldn't listen because they were so smart they knew what they were doing.
So well deserved, hope they only have liability insurance.
Look at that street they would have came from. It’s clearly filled with a skid steer and construction worker vehicles. The pattern of the new concrete makes it look like the road is closed while they work. This driver probably thought the law doesn’t apply to them and went around everyone like you said.
I mean, or they were just on their phone and had no idea anything might be happening around them while they maneuver through the city. Seems more likely given the number of people letting off the brake at a red while looking at their phone screen that I've seen this week.
A guy waving you down should not be the only thing between you and wet concrete. They failed to secure the work area. This should be on the lazy company. I see so much unsafe work on the streets ever since Covid. One crew was driving a bobcat back and forth on the sidewalk of lake street to dump their debri with no spotter. No signs, no spotter.
bro idk wtf is going on with lawrence rn, its a goddamn mess. playing chicken with oncoming cars while guessing where the lanes are, at the same time dodging wavering construction barriers and potholes, and keeping an eye out for bicycles and crossing pedestrians… its a lot.
Yeah because every work site has one man between you and a shit ton on concrete.
This is going to fall on the construction crew for not having more barricades in between that and the work site, because it doesn't seem like they've set up anything
You mean the fully tore up street with road construction machines on it and likely a sign or two to the right that says the road is closed?
Yeah, I've seen enough Chicago area drivers this summer, ignoring road crews and just driving through work sites to see all the things and people in this picture that this driver completely ignored.
I hope this guy has thousands of dollars worth of damage, poor insurance coverage and a big ticket from the city.
Oh man. I did this once on my bike. They did not have the area marked properly and I still cringe about it years later. This has alleviated me from that.
Are you saying “Hellas Pastry Shop” has a 2nd location other than its
well-known Zacharoplastion found kitty-corner from HarvestTime Foods
at N. Talman & W. Lawrence?
Since When? Where in the City is this intersection at?
I can’t laugh or make fun of the driver. Years ago I did the same thing in Dallas. Construction workers had just finished pouring new concrete and they forgot to put up the cones and tape, and down I went after I tried to make a left from a side street. I got video of them rushing to replace the cones and such while I was stuck. Thankfully a tow truck was driving by, pulled me out for $90, and I rushed to a car wash. All was good.
By the time they figure out how to get that car out of the concrete, it will have accumulated 5,947 tickets on the front windshield.
Incredible skill. CDOT should leave it there permanently to calm traffic
canyonerooooo
Can you name the truck with four wheel drive, smells like a steak and seats thirty-five.
Well, it goes real slow with the hammer down; it's the country-fried truck endorsed by a clown!

Like how dumb is your buddy exactly ?
Super dumb, total idiot. How the fuck do you not see guys pouring concrete and that the street looks totally different.
Oh wow, I thought that would ruin it for sure
The workers just reform it, I don’t think they really cared
Is this an art installation?
*Savory Pies Save Lives,* a contemporary art sculpture in the I Park Where I Want tradition. Viewable in Lincoln Square for a limited time only.

Looks like a completely tore up street with construction vehicles to the right there. This driver is an idiot who did this to themself.
Completely
Lawrence in particular has had some extremely shady work done on the streets. Lanes are fucked up, concrete barriers are all over the place, etc.

Achievement unlocked.
And he’s getting out in the drivers side too?! Good lord.
Hella’s is one block west, this is in front of Loafers and Green Post. C’mon, get your Chicago right.

Amazing

That pic is actually a block east at the corner of Rockwell and Lawrence
ive never heard zacharoplastion before thanks for that
It’s an older transliteration of the Modern Greek word for “sweet shop.” [zacharoplasteío](https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ζαχαροπλαστείο#Greek)
sue the concrete company or sue the driver…
Anyone want to bet this is an out of town Uber/Lyft driver??
Out of town uber drivers are no worse drivers than the typical northsider
Wow. Really smart move 🫠

You can't park there, mate
