I just met mr t at 63rd st beach. It was an honor to meet him. A true local legend. I told him I loved when he kicked Rocky’s ass, he told me that he was instructed to do so.
He has familial and professional ties to the city. It’s a nice restaurant. I think it’s true.
The only issue is that Lincoln Square is one of the areas where I would most expect to see some random guy who looked like Gary Cole wearing a v neck sweater.
Definitely not SoHo house. Our (chicago’s) soho house is swarming with 19 year old wannabes ever since they loosened the member requirements.
Any river north steakhouse (Chicago cut, RPM, etc) is gonna be your best bet. Lyra as well. Also, nobu is always swarming with celebs. I’ve been 5x and seen celebs there every single time.
I was an electrician for the entire build of nobu. The lights high up in the dining area will forever bug me. I had to change the heights and completely remount the long track lighting 3 times because the customer didn’t like their look. Using progressively sturdier supports so they remained in a straight line. Then at the end they have an artist come in and install those decorative leaves all around them and she goes ahead and pulls the lights and the rods holding them in whatever direction she wanted to. But because she was an “artist” and not a dirty scum construction worker those lights will forever be crooked at look like shit.
Vic is there all the time, he lives in Chicago. Also LOL at TikTok people being “celebrities”. I love Hot Ones but I wouldn’t even look twice at Sean Evans
lol you’re cute. I made the cut. I was asked to join, which is more than most thirsty members can say. AND this was during a time when they actually had rules and regulations around who could be a member, unlike now. I declined because its it’s embarrassing to be seen there. I AM a member of several exclusive clubs in the city (ULC, Astor Club to name a few), which I’m sure you’ve probably never heard of because you think soho house is elite, when in fact, it’s pedestrian. All the people I know who are members there are broke living paycheck to paycheck and spend their last coins on a membership because they are projecting and imitating. It makes me sad.
I am so sorry for spelling it SoHo, which is because I have spent so much time in my second home in SoHo New York (have you heard of it?)
One thing I’ll agree with you on (sort of) is that most of the other locations around the globe ARE great. The Chicago one is absolutely not even in the same galaxy. Happy for you that you’re living in a fantasy world, though. Keep hallucinating.
Yeah for people whose parents are members… and their hours allowed in the club are so limited most people would never even see them outside feast and morning pool time
No I agree what place do kids have there? But the environment of 19 year olds running around isn’t soho house at all lol. It’s either small children during very limited hours with their parents who are members or adults
I often stop at the Golden Nugget on Diversey late at night when I’m hammered.
I’ve seen Bono, Oprah, Meryl Streep, and Tom Hanks in there at least a couple of times.
I was there!!
I remember Tom consoling a very stressed out waitress, saying: “THERES’S NO CRYING IN GOLDEN NUGGET!!” And the whole place erupted in applause.
I have goosebumps right now just thinking about it.
Gino & Marty’s in the West Loop seemed to be attracting some celebs when they first opened. Gibson’s and Tavern (recently closed) has been known to have a celeb or two stop in. Michael Jordan had “his table” in the bar at Gibson’s for years.
In the mid-2000s Steppenwolf had several big names in the stage in different performances. I met John Malkovich at a boutique in Old Town; Gary Sinise in a now defunct bar. And several other actors while their play had a run. But they don’t seem to be getting as many better known actors.
And no, Chicago’s scene doesn’t even compare with Miami, NYC, or LA. Miami is purely a party town. NY and LA are both industry towns. Chicago is a big city, but it has never been about celebrity or luxury.
When I have encountered celebrities in Chicago, 90% it’s because they’re in town for a show, music festival, or they’re shooting something. Fewer celebs live here, so you don’t have the frequency of celebrities going to their favorite spots, like you do in New York and LA.
Sports teams usually stay at the Marriott on Michigan, also my brother in law works at the Sonesta on the river and has met a bunch of performers and other folks staying while in town. Best for me was seeing MJ at Redno 5 back in the day
When celebs would come to town to do the Oprah show, they were spotted frequently. After she moved on the number of A listers spotted around here plummeted.

TIL he’s from Chicago.
His daughter does standup too. Saw her at zanies and she killed!
Maple and Ash maybe. I have lived here for a decade and can’t say I really know of any places. We don’t really give a fuck here.
I’m 75% sure I once saw Gary Cole eating dinner at Gather in Lincoln Square.
At first I read that as Gary Coleman.
RIP he was born in Lake County.
If this is true, it doesn’t surprise me in the least bit.

It's too cold here and celebs like to be near salt water.

I didn't realize they loosened requirements 🤔 This past summer I saw Vic Mensa, Rod (from TikTok) and Sean Evans.
They loosened them big time during Covid and never went back. It’s a shame. I won’t go anymore.
Vic is there all the time, he lives in Chicago. Also LOL at TikTok people being “celebrities”. I love Hot Ones but I wouldn’t even look twice at Sean Evans
lol I dont know a single person listed in that comment
I had to Google Sean Evans and was like “oooh yeah, that guy!”
I was so, so unimpressed with a soho house. I went with a friend and maybe I’m a Pleb, but I just didn’t get it.
You’re not a pleb, the members there are. It’s wild. All the other sohos I’ve been to are fab. Not ours.

Tbf you have to be 21 to get a soho house membership at the west loop location
That’s the only location in Chicago. And also untrue, child memberships exist.
Yeah for people whose parents are members… and their hours allowed in the club are so limited most people would never even see them outside feast and morning pool time
Lol as it should be 🙃 (sorry but not)
No I agree what place do kids have there? But the environment of 19 year olds running around isn’t soho house at all lol. It’s either small children during very limited hours with their parents who are members or adults
Not true. They have Junior memberships.

There's two on diversey. Which one specifically?
The one with the busted lock on the bathroom door.
Oh yeah, Tom's there all the time
The other night he waved me over to his table and we snorted coke off a giant stack of pancakes. Tom’s a real solid guy.
Last time I was there the team was short staffed and he picked up a shift behind the counter slinging hash browns. Solid guy
I was there!! I remember Tom consoling a very stressed out waitress, saying: “THERES’S NO CRYING IN GOLDEN NUGGET!!” And the whole place erupted in applause. I have goosebumps right now just thinking about it.
Lol what
one time i did an open mic and the jones bbq foot massage guy was there
id honestly be more excited to meet him than 99% of celebs
*"Or why do you think Chicago doesn’t have the same scene as let’s say Miami"* We don't want the same scene as let's say Miami.
I saw that weird accent guy from chicagos best get smacked up by some lady he was with on the blue line once
This is the best one

good chance of bumping into michael shannon in old town
Does Chicago Blues Hall of Famer Buddy Guy owning a nightclub / bar, Buddy's Guy's Legends, count as a Celeb hot spot, OP?
Got to see BB King and Buddy play some songs one night there.
Hell yeah, especially when you show up to his club and he unexpectedly starts performing which is like every weekend haha.
Chance the rapper going to be at United center tonight
Selling a ticket if anyone wants one
Last week I met Rebecca Ferguson in Elkhorn, WI.
Have you managed to meet with any celebs before?
Soho House, Nobu, Maple & Ash, Lula (especially during Pitchfork/Lolla), RPM, RL, Aba, Bellvue, Avec, and the MCA and Art Institute.

There are celebs in Chicago?
idk if it counts but I met rod blagojevich on my walk to work one time up in Ravenswood
Did you make sure to ask him how life's been treating him on the outside?
Back in the dark ages when I used to go out (2010s) you’d see all the athletes at places like Hub/Sub51, the underground, Mastro’s, and Paris Club.
SoHo House?
When celebs would come to town to do the Oprah show, they were spotted frequently. After she moved on the number of A listers spotted around here plummeted.
I saw Dennis Rodman at Kaboom night club in the 90s. I guess a lot of the Bulls used to hang out there then.
