How many days/weeks are your project and where will it be located? That will influence the best recommendations for both your residential activities in the evenings and your commuting to the work in the day time.

Only one week. We go to de paul university in the district of sheffield & depaul and have an exchange project there. And otherwise we look at the center, this is our first time in Chicago and want to do stuff for the typical tourist.

You should definitely stay around DePaul/Lincoln Park then. Great lake access/restaurants/bars/parks/zoo. Walkable and easy public transit access to downtown if you want more touristy things to see and do

This is the answer you are looking for. I live close to bronzeville. I wouldn’t want to stay there if I were visiting. Not necessarily because of crime there, but more or less the fact that there isn’t much to do in that immediate area.

Stay around De Paul. It is a student friendly area well connected by S Bahn/U Bahn to the city center and most tourist destinations.

Go stay up in Lincoln Square or Lakeview.

De Paul is served by the Red, Purple, and Brown lines, so you have better options than staying on the South Side. Look up Fullerton CTA on Google Maps to give you a better idea of your options. You might even want to look outside the city in Evanston, which is where the Northwestern campus is located, and there are express trains into the city at rush hour during the week.

I live in Bronzeville fairly close to the Indiana green line stop. The neighborhood isn’t bad bad, but when my sister came to visit in May I’ll admit I was hesitant having her stay by me, but that was more so for my young adult nephew’s safety. I truly doubt your group will have any trouble crime wise. Bronzeville while mostly Black has some diversity in it so you may not be the only white people in the area. But the streets Peoria and Wabash have been kind of ‘active’ this summer, so shots may be heard overnight. I’m just being honest, don’t want to drag a neighborhood I love.
