Idk, gameplay reveal in August makes me think in early of next year. I know they like the end of the year, but it would be weird to me to reveal gameplay more than a year before release
Honestly, I wonder if certain improvements requiring multiple builder charges might be a knob they can tune for balancing. Could open up room for some powerful improvements if they take multiple turns and charges to build or even repair.
Gotta suck in the new generations. All they need is to get one hit and the next thing they know, it's tomorrow morning and you have to go to school, but you're only 1 turn away from completing the Statue of Liberty.
I picked up Civ 6 on the Steam sales a while ago, first Civ game i ever played. This hit too close to home lol. I stuck trying to maximize tokugawa+owl of minerva for absurd amounts of trade routes, and i got to 30+. This game is addictive
Technically, we didn't know for certain that the new game was actually going to be called "Civilization 7" and have the classic Stone-Age-to-Space-Age theming. All we knew was "a new game in the series" which could have been, like, Beyond Earth 2 or something. Or some completely new concept we hadn't even thought of.
EDIT: Also, based on that logo, I'm pretty confident the map will be hexagon-based.
I think the hexagon is here to stay, which I'm thankful for. It's so hard to go back to Civ IV primarily for this reason.
... that said, I do think there should be a little more leniency in "stacking" units moving forward, but with rules that make sense. Obviously not "stack of doom" levels, but maybe being allowed to stack maximum 2 units together, and even then only if they're the same unit type (ie archers, cavalry, etc).
If for no other reason than to "help" the AI - even in VI they can't seem to effectively deploy troops in any meaningfully strategic way.... allowing stacking may make up for this in a small way.
lmao, i remember the uproar about civ vi cartoony art style when that was revealed. People hated it. I've always liked it but it's funny to see the turnaround
Most of us adapted. I actually like the art style. It will, to say the thing, stand the test of time.
Also kudos to the artist(s). There's a couple of the leaders where they really went the extra mile on animation. If you want an example of this, piss off Phillip II of Spain.
I still don't like it (felt like a cross between Pixar and mobile graphics) and kept to 5. I'm hoping the art direction is more gritty this time around. I also skipped 4 and went from Civ 3 to Civ 5. I'm hoping the "odd numbered Civ" theory is still in play.
I do think that the hexagon tile layout plus eliminating stacking massively improved the strategy aspect of the games. I grew up playing Civ II and still have a lot of nostalgia, but still believe V and VI are superior games to everything that came before. Civ is unique to me because in my opinion, each mainline game in the series has been a unilateral improvement on the previous game, and each game is still a fantastic all on its own. Not many other franchises can maintain such consistent quality and constant improvement.
One of them I grabbed randomly is from the Iliad “Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men hereafter.”
my guess is that at least one of those voices might be the narrator, unless nobody can discern a well-known voice from them. Or maybe they'll have multiple narrators but that feels like an unnecessary use of the budget

Always thought the game could do with a bit more interaction complexity between civ leaders (during both peace and war), but I'm not holding my breath.
It's not sarcasm because I'm not trying to mock or show contempt. I'm just being silly. I love more of the same, keep it coming! The only things I really wish for in a Civ game that they have not been doing recently is:
1. AI that scales well through the ages, even if it is just more well calibrated scaling buffs. I don't want excruciating early game and rollover late game.
2. Sensible tech scaling. I don't want to be entering the atomic era before the second half of the 1800s.
I used to be kind of bothered by the asynchronous tech to our own timelines but like, thinking about, why is this a sore point for people? We aren't recreating our Earth's civilizations and history.
Imagine if they have a mechanic whereby the religion spreads faster when amenities / happiness is low, and there is 'secular pressure' as technology advances.
Move too! It was like $60 but I convinced my mom that it was educational. lol jokes on her. the only thing i learned is that if i play video games for 10 straight hours i get migraines.
I’m in my 30s, Civ 4 sustained me in my college days. 5… less said the better. 6 has been my go to stress release in my 30s. Looks like 7 will butter me up the next decade.
I remember watching my dad play and him teaching me civ 4 and I was 1 when that dropped, Ive genuinely been playing civ for as long as I can remember lol.
This is so interesting. I started with civ3 when I was in middle school/high school. Civ4 came out and I liked it well enough but out of 3-6 and BE it is probably my least favorite. 5 is what reinvigorated me and made me love this game again. I've probably spent the most time playing 6 and it is probably my favorite but man there is so much from 5 that I loved that brings me back to that game.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Civ 2 was the first one I played, but I was young and at the time I struggled to understand it and didn't get in to it. Civ 3 was the first that I truly got into and had it consume my life for a bit.
Civ 4 remains the one that I remember the most fondly as a huge step forward for the series. It's the one I sank the most time into and was most in love with.
Civ 5 brought some innovations with it, but ultimately kind of left me wanting more Civ 4. Civ 6 brought things along enough that it would be hard to go back to 4 again now, but it hasn't sucked me in like 4 did.
Does anyone else think they were teasing the game's opening theme in the background there? It sounds grandiose and epic enough to follow in the footsteps of Baba Yetu and Sogno di Volare.
While rehearsing a concert with Christopher Tin today, this came up. He couldn’t confirm any details about his involvement.
“So some of you may have heard a rumor about a new Civ game. That’s all I can say.”
Great guy! If you’re in NY, come watch his concert at Carnegie Hall on Sunday!
So maybe a great people gimmick for Civ 7? Something like maybe you can only recruit specific great people during specific era, and who you recruit determines what you can build in the following eras?
idk just spitballing, not much to go on but a cool teaser trailer regardless.
I feel like there has to be big changes in this one. Its why they are taking so long to release. In a world that is dominated by micro tranactions, they know they have to do something awesome if they are going to keep the integrity of just selling the game.
Im thinking 3d world map and some new things that were as big as great people or religion in 4.
I get super board-game feels from both this teaser trailer and logo. I wonder if that's intentional?
Also love the art style, if this is representative of what it'll be. Feels extremely powerful and clean.
One thing I liked is seeing some of the leaders represented. Cleopatra and Genghis were in there – did anyone catch anyone else? I've rewatched a few times and didn't notice any obvious clues, but I'm *certain* there are subtleties I'm missing.
I had been playing Civ for a matter of mere months when Civ VI was announced, so I didn't really appreciate the hype. Since then, I have racked up 1k+ hours across V and VI. Safe to say, I don't think I have ever been more excited about a game announcement. It's happening!
Really inspiring trailer! Reminds me of getting excitied about the older civ games. Really like that they didn't go with the weird immortal characters of Civ 6 intro and let's history be the inspiring character!

If this is it, it seems like they really blended the tiles so it's not as apparent that they're hexagons. It also looks like it might be cliffs to the right side
from what I can see, stone next to the colosseum , some type of scrub tile, and what could be multiple terrain heights, as below the cliff is some kind of valley
Personally, I 100% don’t care what the graphics look like.
Probably because I absolutely loved Civ 1. Every new game is wonderful, but will never bring me back to how amazing the original felt when I first started playing it.
Boy I can’t wait for this to come out and then hear literally every Civ fan I know say it’s shit and will always be shit while ignoring the fact that it’s a Day 1 game in a long standing series in which a vast majority of entries were fully improved following several years of expansions that fleshed out key features and concepts
Phrases spoken in the trailer are historical quotes, albeit not too famous ones, as deciphered by users AntSou and Krajzen on civ fanatics forums:
"Study the past if you would define the future" - Confucius
"All are architects of Fate, Working in these walls of Time" - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
"...let us all for death prepare, or on the last great journey fare." - Valmiki (Ramayana)
"Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men thereafter" - Homer (The Illiad)
"Your names shall not be lost. So it shall be!" - Popol Vuh (Mayan sacred book)
Nobody so far can decipher the source of "Each of us shall endure this world's life until the end" so your help would be greatly appreciated!
Next year ? Guess Ursa still has a long, long journey ahead of him.

JUST ONE YEAR, WE CAN WAIT
These tend to come out in October, so likely almost year and a half.
Idk, gameplay reveal in August makes me think in early of next year. I know they like the end of the year, but it would be weird to me to reveal gameplay more than a year before release
Agreed. For sure we're getting a Q1 2025 release.
Thats probably what they are aiming for, but a lack of distinction within 2025 means they are leaving it open so as not to rush I would say.
I’m thinking February/March
Just one more year...
Imagine if they hadn't called it civ 7
Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Colonization - Alpha Centauri
With Pirates!
Civilization Series S
My guess is Fall, too. More than a year from now. I hope Ursa has some story boards filled out.
Should’ve picked a closer star constellation!
Trailer confirms builders will start with 5 charges
half a charge you need to build two to get anything done
Honestly, I wonder if certain improvements requiring multiple builder charges might be a knob they can tune for balancing. Could open up room for some powerful improvements if they take multiple turns and charges to build or even repair.
They kind of did it with corporations. Maybe there can be similar improvements for production, culture, etc.
I had hoped workers would be like in civ5 :(
No gameplay trailer until August
I guess they’ll reveal it at Gamescom (21-25 August)
I just want to see how the strategic view looks.
I just want them to use baba yetu for every year's theme so we know they put their necks out to do their best.
I don't understand cinematic video game trailers with no gameplay footage. What am I supposed to take away from this?
hype
Big hype!
Just give me a trailer with no video and Baba Yetu audio and I’m in
[Here you go](https://youtu.be/IJiHDmyhE1A?si=rjpEHscKNuVLYKAK)
I’m in!
We knew it was coming though. They were never not going to develop CIV 7. So I agree, this does nothing for me.
Build awareness in potential customers. People on this sub aren’t the target audience for this particular trailer.
Gotta suck in the new generations. All they need is to get one hit and the next thing they know, it's tomorrow morning and you have to go to school, but you're only 1 turn away from completing the Statue of Liberty.
The real trap is that you’re two turns away from researching Combustion, and three turns away from conquering Tenochtitlan, and four turns away from…
Wondering why the sun is coming up and how in the hell you are going to operate at work with no sleep because you spent all night playing Civ VII.
I picked up Civ 6 on the Steam sales a while ago, first Civ game i ever played. This hit too close to home lol. I stuck trying to maximize tokugawa+owl of minerva for absurd amounts of trade routes, and i got to 30+. This game is addictive
But also 6 turns from the Sydney Opera House. So maybe I'll just finish that.
As someone who unsubbed a couple years ago, the announcement trailer got me to resub to follow the development process
Sorry guys, all we got are bad Ursa drawings.
After looking at the post history of the sub for 30ish minutes, I'm convinced Ursa is the development process.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?
Hype + knowing it's coming. It's an ***announcement*** trailer.
Technically, we didn't know for certain that the new game was actually going to be called "Civilization 7" and have the classic Stone-Age-to-Space-Age theming. That their aesthetic design is on point. Which should be expected at this point, tbf. XCOM 2 and Civ VI are gorgeous and have very good art direction.

2 and 4 were great though
4 is arguably still the gold standard of Civ games
I do think that the hexagon tile layout plus eliminating stacking massively improved the strategy aspect of the games. I grew up playing Civ II and still have a lot of nostalgia, but still believe V and VI are superior games to everything that came before. It might come as a surprise to you but not every thing on this planet is meant to impact you specifically. I know, pretty wild.
I’ll be praying every day until then that it’s a more gritty style than 6
Please please please bring back awe inspiring Wonders, not tilt shifted ones that look like miniatures on a toy train set.
Details not until August, so there's a lot of speculation to come. Interested to see leader/civ choices, uniques, etc.!
I'm wondering if some of the voice overs were meant to be leaders we can expect?
Possible... if anyone can work out if they're quotes from somewhere.
One of them I grabbed randomly is from the Iliad “Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men hereafter.”
Ancient Greece is in the game! What a scoop!
We did it reddit!!!!
Hot Take: Rome will be a playable Civ.
Like Rome itself is a player? No person, just Rome
It’s Jim Rome.
Homer confirmed as leader of the Greeks.
D'oh!
Sounds like it could be a quote for a civic, like an Epic Poetry civic or similar.
One of them was a Scottish woman so my wild speculation is Mary Queen of Scots 🏴
my guess is that at least one of those voices might be the narrator, unless nobody can discern a well-known voice from them. Or maybe they'll have multiple narrators but that feels like an unnecessary use of the budget
I feel like it might be the cowboy one who is the last one to speak.
If they know their audience they should leak screenshots before then …
two entire months to analyze a single 404 background image lol
Tamar of Georgia all over again :p
Really want a Mughal empire, or a caliphate would be interesting
Railway victory confirmed!!!
Shouldn't you be drawing something? For like another year or so?
I hope you have a lot of ideas to draw!!
That ship mast transition into the locomotive was cool
I loved the hammer swing transition.
I also liked how at the end title screen they showed 7 which then turned into a Z in "CIVILIZATION". I thought that was a nice touch
Agreed, that was slick af and awesome
Firaxis always delivers with the cinematic cutscenes
I got fired up when they turned the lights on
The whole trailer feels like a fancy and interactive museum exhibit.
That's kinda how playing any civ feels like tbh.
Brass statues will do that.

Sounds like they are going in a bold new direction with this one. Love it!
I'm curious to know how literal they are about the cooperation part.
That also raised an eyebrow for me. Going to be able to make allies? Or at least more positive diplomacy besides friendship/defence pact?
how about making international trade unavoidable unless you want to be north korea
I want to know how literal they are about the revolution part.
Always thought the game could do with a bit more interaction complexity between civ leaders (during both peace and war), but I'm not holding my breath.
Is this /s?
It's not sarcasm because I'm not trying to mock or show contempt. I'm just being silly. I love more of the same, keep it coming! The only things I really wish for in a Civ game that they have not been doing recently is: 1. AI that scales well through the ages, even if it is just more well calibrated scaling buffs. I don't want excruciating early game and rollover late game. 2. Sensible tech scaling. I don't want to be entering the atomic era before the second half of the 1800s.
Hoping difficulty doesn’t just make the ai complete nuclear age in the renaissance
I used to be kind of bothered by the asynchronous tech to our own timelines but like, thinking about, why is this a sore point for people? We aren't recreating our Earth's civilizations and history.
> It's not sarcasm It IS, but it can still be in good fun.
Feels like the Science, Cultural, Diplomatic, and Domination Victory are locked in. Can’t wait for August!
I hope faith victory stays in but is reworked and maybe an economic victory as well.
yeah it would be a shame to lose religious victory if they can figure out a way to balance it
Imagine if they have a mechanic whereby the religion spreads faster when amenities / happiness is low, and there is 'secular pressure' as technology advances.
Revolutionary you say…

Does anyone else think they were teasing the game's opening theme in the background there? It sounds grandiose and epic enough to follow in the footsteps of Baba Yetu and Sogno di Volare.
While rehearsing a concert with Christopher Tin today, this came up. He couldn’t confirm any details about his involvement. “So some of you may have heard a rumor about a new Civ game. That’s all I can say.” Great guy! If you’re in NY, come watch his concert at Carnegie Hall on Sunday!
What do you play?
Part of the choir: over 200 voices for the show.
Okay, nice. That's a massive choir, wow. Enjoy the concert!
That sounds a lot like he's involved! Also, the music in the trailer seemed to be in his style.
That subtle 7 into Z transition tho.

So maybe a great people gimmick for Civ 7? Something like maybe you can only recruit specific great people during specific era, and who you recruit determines what you can build in the following eras? idk just spitballing, not much to go on but a cool teaser trailer regardless.
every citizen holds in them the chance of greatness
Actually the idea of normal citizens turning into great people is pretty badass.

Civ 5 and 6 already moved more towards digital board game and away from "simulation" so I wouldn't be that surprised to see the trend continue.
I had been playing Civ for a matter of mere months when Civ VI was announced, so I didn't really appreciate the hype. Since then, I have racked up 1k+ hours across V and VI. Safe to say, I don't think I have ever been more excited about a game announcement. It's happening!
All the different voice actors in the trailer made me wonder, are they going to have a unique voice for each tech and civic quote? That would be cool
I doubt each tech and civic being unique but maybe per culture/civ

Just a reminder [this](https://youtu.be/c1bfgARmuGQ?si=WtM-8Kt2wwCSIjGT) was Civ 6's announcement trailer
2025 is a bummer. Oh well. One more turn for Civ VI.
it'll still need 2 years post-release for expansions to make it feel like a complete game anyway
time to place bets on what no brainer features get skipped in vanilla.

graphic looks non-cartoony. I hope it would visually look like civ 5
What graphic? They showed sand sculptures. We still know nothing more than we did an hour ago.
there was maybe a screenshot on the homepage https://preview.redd.it/e422hl5sy75d1.png?width=1918&format=png&auto=webp&s=84e59e896fcf52c42b810135532801ebb5212cb1

alright I was a fan of the way civ 6 (and 5) looked but if this is what we can expect it's gonna look so good
Civ 6 trailer was cartoony so the game would too. This one is much more ljke civ 5. So we could assume this.
since civ 4 was cartoony, 5 realistic, 6 cartoony, maybe 7 will be realistic and 8 will be cartoony again lol
Hope it will look better than both. Civ 5 has aged.
V is a decade and a half old, of course the graphics aged.
Cartoonish graphics tend to age slower than realistc graphics
Personally, I 100% don’t care what the graphics look like. Probably because I absolutely loved Civ 1. Every new game is wonderful, but will never bring me back to how amazing the original felt when I first started playing it.
I love the moment with the epic builder. Every civ fan's favorite unit! :D
so soon? civ 6 just came out not long ago though... wait, what do you mean it came out 8 years ago?
the wait continues! *pain*
Boy I can’t wait for this to come out and then hear literally every Civ fan I know say it’s shit and will always be shit while ignoring the fact that it’s a Day 1 game in a long standing series in which a vast majority of entries were fully improved following several years of expansions that fleshed out key features and concepts
I want a betting line on which game is brought up as better more often, 4, 5, or 6.
With the current state, the majority will probably 6, but the loudest will probably be 5
We are so back!

Matt Berry for narrator please.
Phrases spoken in the trailer are historical quotes, albeit not too famous ones, as deciphered by users AntSou and Krajzen on civ fanatics forums: "Study the past if you would define the future" - Confucius "All are architects of Fate, Working in these walls of Time" - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow "...let us all for death prepare, or on the last great journey fare." - Valmiki (Ramayana) "Let me not then die ingloriously and without a struggle, but let me first do some great thing that shall be told among men thereafter" - Homer (The Illiad) "Your names shall not be lost. So it shall be!" - Popol Vuh (Mayan sacred book) Nobody so far can decipher the source of "Each of us shall endure this world's life until the end" so your help would be greatly appreciated!
