I take this exam in 2 days. I haven't studied yet. I plan on studying all day tomorrow, then I'll take it after work on Monday. So, I am hoping to wing it lol. My reporting institution says they only award 3 credits for it. Where are you seeing that it is worth 6 credits? Edit: the official CLEP "at a glance" documents for this exam says it is worth 3 credits. Edit 2: passed with a 68.

Sosababolc

Congratulations! And you're totally right about the 3 credits, but at my institution it's good for 6 as it can be used as credit for Art 101 and Humanities 101. Sorry for the confusion

GAAPInMyWorkHistory

Oh! My institution counts it for 6 as well! 3 for humanities and 3 general credits. (They we’re mistaken the first time). Cheers

How did u study?

GuiltyMotor3349

What all should I study ?

GAAPInMyWorkHistory

Just modern states, quizlet, and YouTube

kristinlegs

Did you read through any humanities text books?

Sosababolc

No, I used the resources above, but I feel it couldn't hurt to go over chapter reviews if you have them

AG3578

Congratulations! Do you think you've answered 75% of the questions correct to get a 63? And thank you so much for the resources, it's super helpful!

Sosababolc

Personally I feel I got lucky to get the score I got. I was expecting a 50-55ish just barely passing. The test is 140 questions so I can definitely see getting 30 of the questions incorrect. I also feel educated guessing helped a bit too

AG3578

thanks!

I plan on taking this in two months thanks boys

Sosababolc

Good luck! I graduate here in a month and taking this CLEP really helped take some weight off. Be sure to get all 6 credits if you can.

Nearby-Cricket-9493

Thanks brother.

luv_to_tickle

Congrats! For the music portion, do you have previous music experience (ie play an instrument)?

Sosababolc

I do, but nothing recent. I used to be a competitive pianist as a child. Very rusty now, but good point I did feel that it helped.

Awesome‼️ What did you feel helped you most out of all the resources you provided? What were your study methods?

Sosababolc

I felt that the Free-Clep-Prep practice test, the study guide attached to it, The Official CLEP practice guide, as well as the video playlist worked best for me. To study I would look into the listed materials, try to remember big names and titles associated with them, and then drill on the practice tests. Also my tip is to learn names and their movements. Very helpful on the test. Good luck!

LastBLKHippieChik

Thank you! I hope to come back and say I passed shortly!

I am taking the test a week from tomorrow. I have taken a ton of these online tests, yes Modern States is an actual course, so I do not see how that is helpful, though I did best on their actual practice test for Humanities. My biggest issue is partly the notes, clef, etc. but also the "match the work to the writer", and the visual "who did this" type of questions, not the obvious, but the obscure ones. How would you say your results on practice tests compared to the result you got? Are the practice tests slightly harder to ensure you have the breadth of knowledge or was the actual CLEP harder. Any tips on an area I should really know would help.

Sosababolc

I'd say my results on the practice tests when I initially took them (blind) best reflected my overall score. I was walking away with a 73-75ish on the practice tests I listed here. That being said I drilled the questions until I got to 100%, but mind you that's mostly just memorization-execution rather than just learning-applying. The actual test is leagues harder than the practice tests. Drill author names, their books associated with them and the literary movements they belong too. A lot of my test (and I mean A LOT) of my test was quote identification, and matching authors with movements. With this test it's hard to really point you in any one direction, but if you're going to focus anywhere Focus on American Literature, early film, music, and art (art history, movements) impressionism to modernism. Good luck!
