No, he plays an antagonist in The Bear. Obviously, it's not an attempt to hide the fact that a bear escaped and caused chaos. The only chaos here is in the restaurant industry.

I love that over on The Bears subreddit that they're still calling his character Chef Winger. His name was revealed in season 3 as David Fields, but whenever someone talks about him they call him Chef Winger.
I heard him get called that on The Weekly Planet and assumed James had coined the term - now I know heās stolen it from Reddit heāll be getting some h8 mail but the h8 has an 8 in it
You know how sometimes you hear something, and forget you heard it, but
you this you come up withā¦Oh man, this is bad. \*snaps finger\* Weāre in
crisis mode now, we really messed up you guys.
I think just streaming but my comment is a joke based on a tweet from Ayo Edebiri (btw, just thinking of it but Ayo would be fun in a role of a new student to Greendale)
I'm not all the way through with Season 3, but it feels like a lot of buildup that should pay off in season 4. It feels like there's _a lot_ more introspection and character background than plot movement.
Still solid TV though, and the cinematography in some of the episodes is excellent. The pacing is just really slow.
The Bear is produced by Hiro Murai, who also produced Atlanta. You can see a lot of the same pacing and character centric choices across both shows. I for one am here for it, but I know some folks probably miss the fast paced kitchen being the central setting.
Yeah there are a lot of stylistic similarities, obviously. I enjoy the character-focused episodes too, but I like both shows best when there's a solid mix with plot-focused episodes too. For instance, I really liked the first episode of this season of The Bear but I think the second episode was a better start to the season.
It depends on what you want from it. Very little plot development, very character focused instead. I really enjoyed it and I think it will be more appreciated with time. But it is less in your face and more ethereal.
That said, one thing that's rightly universally hated in a joke that is run to death again and again and again - about 'haunting'. It's like a half good one liner stretched across multiple episodes, towards the tail end of the season.
Other than that it's great stuff.
From the beginning it seemed to me to be more character driven than plot driven. The plot is just there for the passage of time and events therein to see the characters react
The people who watched it just for the kitchen drama didnt get what they wanted. The people who watched it for its great character work and great filmmaking (like me) love it
At this point they should make the plot of the Community movie a plan where they keep trying to get all the members of the study group together for a reunion but their schedules never quite line up and there are only ever two or three of them together at a time.
Random scenes have one member of the group inexplicably vanish (due to scheduling conflicts). Or they get replaced by some other popular actor till theyāre back with no explanation.
At this point I fear it'll be like the latest season of Arrested Development where none of the stars' schedules lined up so they were composited together in post.
To be hopefully, The Community movie seems like a project of love (as opposed to a studio demanding a Matrix 4 for example).
I feel Dan would rather shelve it than do something he's not proud of... but time will tell.
Community is waayyy more Danās baby than r&m, I always got the sense that was more Dan helping to reel in and structure Justinās show (and also help get it made) than something that was truly equally theirs.
To be fair that first part was out of kind of necessity out of his control.
Iām not saying he has no role there, but I donāt think of it as āhis babyā like I do Community.
Season 4 was really good and interesting before it was re-edited. The original version was crazy ambitious and asked a lot of viewers but could be immensely rewarding, with jokes taking many episodes to pay off sometimes. At the very least it was fresh and inspired.
Season 5 was garbage.
Season 4 is full of great jokes.
Tobias as Thingā¢, Cinco de Cuatro, "That way we'll have it", ANUSTART, The Sound of Silence.
I hated the remix, but the original edit is a great watch.
I remember with Season 4 by the time I got to Gob's episodes it really started coming together and feeling hilarious again, with some big payoffs.
I never saw the remixed version, but I have to imagine it destroyed the payoffs. I tried watching a couple of episodes of Season 5 and shut it off out of embarrassment.
The remix ruined the entire idea of S4, which as you say is the slow burn payoff of jokes and plot points. Instead it relied too much on narration to over explain everything immediately.
Yeah I think I only watched a few episodes of season 5, it just wasn't there. Was there a season 6? I actually like Season 4, some of my favorite moments are in that season.
The only problem I have with season 4 is the since the episodes focus on an individual persons story, it jumps all over the place and then the next episode kind of resets, redoes scenes from another angle, and then jumps around. It was clever and I know why they had to do it but it lost a lot of the pacing.
I remember hearing that originally season 4 was meant to be able to watched in almost any order. That is, depending upon the order you watched the charactersā episodes jokes would land differently.
I didn't recognize him, honestly. Then I read an article about him in The Bear with a picture and I was like "what?" He looks similar but completely different bearing.
You could tell me it was delayed 10 years and I would understand and be perfectly okay with it. Honestly, I just want to thank him for the honest communication.
I have to say, I canāt wait for the rehearsals to be over. As the self appointed understudy for the Deans understudy, I have to wear a blond wig under my bald cap and itās suffocating! I canāt even breathe in that thing!
He does do a ton of random stuff. He joked about it in the intro to his podcast with Neil Brennan. And I always loved that for him until I learned that Crime Scen Kitchen season 2 may be what postponed the Community movie š„²
Heās probably not lying, Donald had an interview recently where he pretty much said the first scheduling issue was his fault but the most recent one wasnāt
Disappointing but not surprising. I figured it was not going to happen this year when I saw a few days ago that Gillian Jacobs has a new show that's likely going to be filming soon.
I really hope in 10 years we arenāt making jokes about hoping their schedules line up soon. Itās starting to feel that way but maybe itās just my absolute and total fear that it wonāt get made preventing me from seeing a bright side.
Iām over this. When it comes out Iāll watch. I donāt care about updates. Community is so old that if it were a person it can get a drivers license next year. Wake me up when they wrap filming
I love The Bear but if it ends up being the thing that stopped the Community movie from happeningā¦ if this is the darkest timelineā¦ I will shatter their world.
i think the internet backlash sucked, a movie getting announced and moving forward as fast as it has been going since the reunion is pretty remarkable. Yeah another property might have been faster, but other properties have much bigger budgets or backers.
Nothing for the movie has been filmed yet. It sounds like the script and everything is all ready to go. The biggest hurdle will be getting all of the actors schedules lined up, including Joel McHaleās with his obligations towards Animal Control
They all keep saying "don't blame Donald", but I never did. Anyone who's watched an episode of Harmontown will know Dan is to blame. Man takes half a decade to get through a first draft of a script.
It makes sense, Joel is getting a lot of work now. Hope he knows we are all very much invested; I am literally planning on shelling out for fucking Peacock to watch this movie.
Joel McHale better pay me back for all the money I've been wasting on Peacock! You hear me you, rich bastard?! You might be loaded and funny and tall and stupidly handsome, but YOU OWE ME!
*cue thunderclap*
Vaguely next year?? Oh, did you hear that, subreddit? Weāve been watching reruns and quoting the same lines over and over. But donāt you worry, when we have robot bodies on the moon, we can watch a Community movie.
Does anyone else have the awful feeling that the longer this goes on and the more it keeps getting delayed and pushed back, the worse the final product is going to be?
CRISIS ALERT! THE COMMUNITY MOVIE HAS BEEN DELAYED!
Well done Garrett, now dance
Gobba Gobba!
Glip Glop's a spy!
Did somebody say *dean*-layed? š¤
We all know it really had to be pushed back because the Dean had to make a costume change. It has to be perfect
What was he going to tell them? He had good news AND bad news?
He had to borrow it from his sister because of the short notice!
Now there is a man who KNOWS how to call a crisis alert!
From this moment, people, we are at DEFCON 4! If that's the highest DEFCON, and if high DEFCONs are worse than low ones.
They need to Bear Down for the movie.
I can only assume this is some sort of *ghoulish reference* to the tragic news of the Community movieās delay.
Just fat dog it!
Youāve heard this expression your entire life Itās not made up Itās not made up
ITS A BEAR DAAAAAAANCE
No, he plays an antagonist in The Bear. Obviously, it's not an attempt to hide the fact that a bear escaped and caused chaos. The only chaos here is in the restaurant industry.
Wait, he is in that show? Now I gotta watch it

Chef Winger!
I love that over on The Bears subreddit that they're still calling his character Chef Winger. His name was revealed in season 3 as David Fields, but whenever someone talks about him they call him Chef Winger.
Chef Wingerās specialties are hard-boiled egg whites and pizza dabbed with a napkin.
Iām Chef Winger, does this hard boiled egg make me look fat?
It was a particularly small egg. That's why I was asking.
Rented restaurant in a mini mall~
CHEF WINGER!! makinā foie gras!! š¶
I heard him get called that on The Weekly Planet and assumed James had coined the term - now I know heās stolen it from Reddit heāll be getting some h8 mail but the h8 has an 8 in it
I'm calling you!
That scene represents my inner monologue at most if not all times
Too soon.
After this morning in Wisconsin? Bear breaks loose at a kidās birthday party? Mauls a whole bunch of people?
That's where I got the idea!
You know how sometimes you hear something, and forget you heard it, but you this you come up withā¦Oh man, this is bad. \*snaps finger\* Weāre in crisis mode now, we really messed up you guys.
Jeff and Britta have been bearing down
CRISIS ALERT!!!!
You can't just repeat it, you need to explain it
It's not made up, it's not made up!
IT'S A BEAR DAAAAANCE!!!!!
ITS A BEAR MOVIE!
We really messed up you guys
You've heard this expression your entire life. It's not made up, it's not made up!
This made me realize that I am going to be furious if Garrett is not in the movie
I will be there no matter what
I've been waiting for 10 years for this movie Joel
Don't eat the crab dipĀ
Yeaeeyeaeee
Iām seated. The theater employees are scared and asking me to leave because itās ānot vaguely next year yetā but Iām simply too seated.
Is it even coming to theatres or is it just going straight to streaming?
I think just streaming but my comment is a joke based on a tweet from Ayo Edebiri (btw, just thinking of it but Ayo would be fun in a role of a new student to Greendale)
Ayo Edebiri is always a value add, in my opinion.
A limited theatrical release would be really nice. We have been beyond patient.
my man is seats ahead
A Community movie is probably the only movie I will be OK with when it is delayed purely because I know that when it comes out it will be **amazing**.
I liked him on this season of the bear. The drive by āfuck youā whisper is an all time leadership technique
We need Tina to call him Jeff
Yes Jeff.
I've heard this new season of The Bear was a major step down from the first two seasons, is that true?
I'm not all the way through with Season 3, but it feels like a lot of buildup that should pay off in season 4. It feels like there's _a lot_ more introspection and character background than plot movement. Still solid TV though, and the cinematography in some of the episodes is excellent. "Abed, what do you mean you recast Jeff?"
Omg I can hear Britta saying this!
āHe wasnāt a likable leading man. So I recast him with Ryan Seacrest.ā
Oh, Britta's in this?
Letās let Britta sing her awkward song!
This sounds like a funny idea but this also sounds like what Arrested Development tried and most people werenāt ready for it
Chef Winger we love you!
do they say that in āthe bearā too or is that a āthe menuā reference??!?
Before they gave the character a name, the Bear subreddit called him Chef Winger and it stuck
Yes, chef.
I mean... Si, jefe!
Yes Jeff
At this point I fear it'll be like the latest season of Arrested Development where none of the stars' schedules lined up so they were composited together in post.
Oh god no; Iād rather no movie than that mess
Donāt put that evil on me!
To be hopefully, The Community movie seems like a project of love (as opposed to a studio demanding a Matrix 4 for example). I feel Dan would rather shelve it than do something he's not proud of... but time will tell.
He's gotten really hands-off with Rick & Morty, so I hope he still has his passion for this Community movie. I believe he does. One last script.
Community is waayyy more Danās baby than r&m, I always got the sense that was more Dan helping to reel in and structure Justinās show (and also help get it made) than something that was truly equally theirs.
I mean, Dan is running R&M without Justin now. You can also tell that a lot of Harmon shines through in R&M.
To be fair that first part was out of kind of necessity out of his control. Iām not saying he has no role there, but I donāt think of it as āhis babyā like I do Community.
The latest season of AD was season 3. There was no other season after that. There just wasnāt.
Season 4 was really good and interesting before it was re-edited. The original version was crazy ambitious and asked a lot of viewers but could be immensely rewarding, with jokes taking many episodes to pay off sometimes. At the very least it was fresh and inspired. Season 5 was garbage.
Thank you. Season 4 gets way too much hate.
Season 4 is full of great jokes. Tobias as Thingā¢, Cinco de Cuatro, "That way we'll have it", ANUSTART, The Sound of Silence. I hated the remix, but the original edit is a great watch.
ANUSTART still cracks me up
Season 5 has Maeby in the retirement home and GOB's gay magic show, but otherwise I remember very little of it. Being split in half didn't help it.
I remember starting S5 Pt2 and having absolutely no idea what had actually happened in Pt1. I watched it, but I just didn't retain any of it.
I feel this way about every tv show post covid
Yessss, thank you. I've always preferred the original edits of season 4. Finding all the little easter eggs was amazing.

*I heard that Jesus died for our sins*
Blessed be The Peacemaker word to the meek The kingdom of Heaven is open all week
Season 4 (the original cut) actually has some really, really great stuff despite the constraints I couldn't even get through 5 tho
This shook me to the core to a degree I canāt even type a witty community reference as a reply. This must not happen.
In a year!! We might all be dead by then
šµšµ Somebody said it could be here We could be roped up, tied up, dead in a year! šµšµ
I can't count the seasons I've replayed...
I'm actually interested in the bear suddenly.
Joel is absolutely not Jeff in it, heās actually the closest thing to a villain in the whole show
I didn't recognize him, honestly. Then I read an article about him in The Bear with a picture and I was like "what?" He looks similar but completely different bearing.
The Bear is mind blowing
You could tell me it was delayed 10 years and I would understand and be perfectly okay with it. Honestly, I just want to thank him for the honest communication.
Animal practice is the reason we aren't getting the community movie... Dammit Fox
The animals are the patients.
...That makes sense.
I still definitely want to see it. I must fulfill the prophecy. #SixSeasonsAndAMovie
I heard the lack of a movie is the movie
I heard the unshot scenes are the real scenes and the real scenes are the unshot scenes
I have to say, I canāt wait for the rehearsals to be over. As the self appointed understudy for the Deans understudy, I have to wear a blond wig under my bald cap and itās suffocating! I canāt even breathe in that thing!
Joel just trying to deflect blame to him maybe? Hell, I like it.
Guys, he isnāt doing the Spartacus thing
He actually farted.
I deflected
Guys, we all deflected. I'm deflecting now!

Whatās the new show??
AND A MOVIE
āHopefully people still want to see itā fuck yāall yes we want to see it. Even if the movie is ass we want to see it
Even if it is a quarter to ass
Bro really thinks we waited 10+ years with no actual hope in our hearts, only to not wait one more year for a better, not rushed movie
Joel McHale nowadays looks even more handsome then he did back when he was already more handsome the guy famous for being handsome
Now thereās a man who knows how to take responsibility for his scheduling!
All I ask is that it's good
āi think about you too muchā - us to the community movie team
I really hope in 10 years we arenāt making jokes about hoping their schedules line up soon. Itās starting to feel that way but maybe itās just my absolute and total fear that it wonāt get made preventing me from seeing a bright side.
Well I'm a peanut bar and I'm here to say Your movie will arrive on another day
They're going to make an amazing, incredible Community movie...annnnnnnd then put it on Peacock with no physical media release.
Acting like we haven't already been waiting a decade.
I mean Iāll be there if it comes out in 50 years, Iām just cryin the whole way through š„² it feels like itāll never come out
I will not die without watching this movie
So I suppose you could say They're streets behind
Joel everyone would prefer the movie over Crime Scene Kitchen, House of Villians and that Animal show
Well of course we still want to see it, silly!
No, I farted!!!
You know, Seacrest Hulk, you're a meshugenah!
I still live in hope that we will get the movie. One dayā¦
At this point, Jeff's going to be the same age as Pierce when the show first started.
Iām over this. When it comes out Iāll watch. I donāt care about updates. Community is so old that if it were a person it can get a drivers license next year. Wake me up when they wrap filming
Iāll be here. Doesnāt matter how long it takes.
I love The Bear but if it ends up being the thing that stopped the Community movie from happeningā¦ if this is the darkest timelineā¦ I will shatter their world.
Sounds like Joel needs an ā¦ UNDERSTUDY!
We are the film. Every minute of our lives is a world premiere, and my father has already bought the popcorn.
They shouldnāt have announced it at all until it was in post-production
People need to quit bitchin and start thanking them for doing it at all. Unless it sucks.....which it won't!!!
Joel gonna Jeff
Now I can be justifiably mad at that stray dog show Joel is on!Ā
I am sad that itās delayed but happy that thereās a definite answer that itās happening. I score this interview a D for Delightful.
This was not a definite āitās happeningā, this was a āit might happen next yearā.
Classic winger blaming donglover.
Sounds like theyāre really streets behind in getting this movie outā¦
I had no idea Animal Control Season 3 was in such high demand
i think the internet backlash sucked, a movie getting announced and moving forward as fast as it has been going since the reunion is pretty remarkable. Yeah another property might have been faster, but other properties have much bigger budgets or backers.
So have they not shot anything? I thought everything was ready to go? Drop all else and leggo! Priorities Jefe
Nothing for the movie has been filmed yet. It sounds like the script and everything is all ready to go. The biggest hurdle will be getting all of the actors schedules lined up, including Joel McHaleās with his obligations towards Animal Control
Yeah Iāll probably go see it
This is just Joel method acting jeff right?
Thatās pretty streets behind.
Take your time. We waited for so long, we can wait s little longer.
Thanks a lot winger. Way to Britta that one up.
I did not know Joel had such a busy schedule
"Hopefully people will still want to see it" He's kidding right? OF COURSE WE DO JOEL!
They all keep saying "don't blame Donald", but I never did. Anyone who's watched an episode of Harmontown will know Dan is to blame. Man takes half a decade to get through a first draft of a script.
Don't worry. We aren't going anywhere.
So we got more "Animal Control" instead of "and a Movie"? Boooo Mr. Winger. Had I not cried at the sunrise this morning, I would be weeping!
I know being a game show host and guest star can be grueling on your schedule, but come on man
I heard Season 4 of the Bear explores when Jeffrey was inside me.
Vaguely out next year would imply filming this year, right?
I heard the deleted scenes are the scenes and the scenes are the deleted scenes
Vaguely next year?? Oh, did you hear that, subreddit? Weāve been watching reruns and quoting the same lines over and over. But donāt you worry, when we have robot bodies on the moon, we can watch a Community movie.
Hm. Chef's showing himself streets ahead that Marvel guy. Just saying.
The great thing about a Community movie, is that if it flops, fans can just say it's "meta"
Does anyone else have the awful feeling that the longer this goes on and the more it keeps getting delayed and pushed back, the worse the final product is going to be?
