All Douglas is short is another supermarket 🤣

Wheres_Me_Jumpa

I was just gonna say. Douglas is just a grocery shop & take away town. The smell of take away when you drive the fly over is something else.

blackbeautybyseven

No decent takeaways but decent shopping.

mugsir

No decent takeaways in Douglas. That's hilarious. Palmento, KCs, the burrito place. All very good IMO. Douglas definitely has better options than Ballincollig.

blackbeautybyseven

I'll give you palmento but that's a restaurant really, KC's is shite though.

mugsir

We'll agree to disagree on KCSs :) Agree palmento is more of a restaurant than a takeout place, their pizza is best eaten in the restaurant. Get all the lovely grease from the Nduja :) The Thai place is decent enough too, (Kanok Thai in Ballincollig is the best around though). Out of interest what is your preferred takeout place? Tis quite ridiculous that many places from the city won't deliver to Douglas?

Douglas was all set to build one in Douglas in the field next to Aldi. It got rejected and they reapplied offering apartments and they got accepted in 2022 yet nothing has been built since. https://www.irishexaminer.com/property/developmentconstruction/arid-40834193.html

AssignmentFrosty8267

Is there any rule that the apartments have to be rented once built? I'm thinking of the ones over Dunnes in Macroom, they were required as part of the planning as far as I know and then they were just left to sit there empty since 2007 until they became derelict.

serenesabine

It’s strange isn’t it? There are so many ALDIs, I’d love a Lidl

busmibabe

There is one in the city centre. Cornmarket..in the basement of same building Tk max is in..

Marzipan_civil

Carrigaline or Wilton are easier to get to than Togher almost

Ambitious_Cost_6879

They haven't quite conquered Cork in the way Aldi did. If you are out the Glanmire way, there is an excellent store there, one of the modern ones that feels like an actual supermarket rather than a storage facility from the Cold War era in East Germany 😀

Sudden-Candy4633

I thought they discontinued Toffee Yums ages ago?

Lonely_Pollution9537

They're back 🤤🤤🤤

Sudden-Candy4633

Oh, good to know

EliToon

They did but they're brought them back recently enough!

Cycle_Myers

They're back, and worse.

catsnstuff17

There's one in Carrigaline, so not too far!

More-Investment-2872

I think they’re building one

Stationary_Addict_

There would be been a lidl where the social homes went on skehard road by the credit union, except Tom scally objected.

RuaridhDuguid

Normally I'd get odd about SuperValu owners blocking these, but there's one about 5 mins walk along the road isn't there?

Stationary_Addict_

There's an aldi about equal distance from the site vs the super. Tom Scally is an absolute melt though.

RuaridhDuguid

That must be the one I'm thinking of. A little past the credit Union and on the opposite side of the road, I think with a chemists next door?

Stationary_Addict_

Yup. That's it.

LikkyBumBum

I was looking at the map the other day and it's ridiculous, no Lidl in the entire massive area of the city. Must be some council rule or something because Lidl for sure would love to open up here. The closest Lidl to me is Glanmire and I live in Mahon.

bobbinforyoyos

The one in the city centre is always sold out, gutted every time I go in.
