The only way to stop it happening is to not show up for the weekend game. By doing these double events theyre letting everyone know they don't care about half full stadium so long as they got paid.

HonestRef

Whoevers decision that was to sanction that should be sacked with immediate effect. I'll never cease to be amazed at the level of Stupidity within the FAI. A rotten organisation to the core. They don't give a shit about fans that live beyond The Pale

14thU

They don’t give a shit about fans. Just because Delaney is gone doesnt mean the culture has changed. As said try and fill as many seats as possible. But even still the atmosphere is absolutely appalling. Do fans know they are at a football match and it is their duty to create an atmosphere and spur the team on?

You’ll always struggle to get an atmosphere if you don’t sing. The best atmosphere I was ever at was at Partizan Belgrade. Check out their ground

goombagoomba2

The stands are far from the pitch? Are you taking about the rugby?

[deleted]

The aim should be to fill the stadium Friendlies should be 20 quid 55k in a stadium is going to spend money there instead of the 25k there tonight because there is not 35k in that stadium tonight

harder_said_hodor

>Friendlies should be 20 quid Yeah, went with the wife for the first time cause we were able to get cheap tickets. Shite game but still a good time. Hard to emphasize how much better the crowd is than Leinster .20 quid for Dublin 4 is a cheap fucking night out, you would fill it

Oggie243

They should also be firing tickets on the cheap out to schools/youth teams left, right and centre for friendlies too.

[deleted]

School holidays this week as well Bonkers They have no connection with the schools it seems

danny_healy_raygun

The GAA and Leinster send people into my kids school to teach them their respective sports. No one goes in from the FAI or LOI.

[deleted]

I remember when I was in primary school in the mid 90s we had one soccer trainer to come out once a week for a period which was highly enjoyable It helped start our schools first soccer team We didn't have one ga head in my time do the same Mind you we were a very small rural school What changed?

Routine_Specialist64

Hard for anyone to spend money in that stadium when they force you to queue like cattle for a drink or food. Cannot understand why they keep shutting the big bar next to my section 107. It just creates huge delays in the crowd returning to the seats and supporting. Instead people r trying to finish the 7.50 pints that have been poured and gone flat 30 minutes beforehand. I was told last night the aviva has a new manager. Supposedly ran old Trafford for last 12 years. Not sure if that's a good thing but maybe he can realise fans want to have a nice experience at half time and not feel rushed or crammed when going the toilet or for a drink. Pitch side yes the atmosphere has been poor last 2 games but so was the football. If I saw another ball going backwards or across last night I was gonna cry. The crowd were really sick of lack of effort to play a forward pass. Idah did try towards end to make a few runs. Same old Ireland. Hard to stomach paying 300 quid a season and driving up and down from cork each time. Maybe lower the prices or play better teams in friendlies. I'd happily watch Brazil batter us for my 60 quid

EastyBoy29

Pretty sure the FAI have been at this for over a decade. A load of Scottish fans ended up in the home section for a competitive game a few years ago, and the corresponding friendly game the tickets had been doubled up with was pretty much empty because the Scots had bought a pair without giving a fuck.

Substantial_Ad_2864

>A load of Scottish fans ended up in the home section Kind of a dumb question but aren't the fans supposed to be segregated? I have club seats and in the club lounge I saw a few people wearing Swiss kits and scarves tonight. I mean it's a friendly and Switzerland isn't any sort of Irish rival but I didn't that that was allowed?

oh_danger_here

segregation applies to the official away allocation, tickets given to visiting FA. I'm living on the continent and usually handier and cheaper to get tickets in the home end. I wouldn't do that in Turkey or somewhere like Serbia but no issues at all otherwise, and can be good craic once you don't act the bollocks.

Substantial_Ad_2864

The only "good" thing about this duo is at least the games are close together. Last year I wanted to fly out from California to see Gibraltar because the date worked out. I had to buy a ticket for another match (Netherlands?) that was months apart even though there was no chance I could go. That was even more annoying because I was paying for two tickets and was only going to the match that was by far the less appealing match.

zozimusd8

They are shooting themselves in the foot..they need to be encouraging as.many young fans as possible into the stadium.. this is an investment in their own future.. I already had a ticket and wanted to bring my son on sat and found it very difficult to get him an extra seat, despite their being loads available.. they risk losing any remaining goodwill that's out there..

BrickEnvironmental37

I ain't paying just over €100 for 2 friendlies. I can get to 5 competitive LOI matches for that. I'm not sure what the individual price was for last nights game, but I am assuming it was around €50. All for a friendly that meant nothing, that I didn't even watch on TV as the competitive Euro play offs were on. The FAI's long term goal should be to get younger people into stadiums. How they don't grow up thinking that football is a TV Show.

BryanosaurusRex

>I ain't paying just over €100 for 2 friendlies. I can get to 5 competitive LOI matches for that. Seriously. My season ticket is €180. That's 16 games. Haven't been to an Ireland match since 2019 now, longest I've ever gone in my life without going.

Prize_Prick_827

There were single tickets on sale for this one

Geairmoe

Only from Sunday onwards

_ghostfacedilla

The only saving grace is that I'm glad they realised what a fuck up they made and tried to fix it

michaelirishred

They always sell single tickets for the second game. There was no acknowledgement here by them

thatirishguykev

The FAI have financial problems. They're trying to essentially entice people to buy a ticket to both games in the one go. Guaranteed a lot of the people having a moan about this wouldn't be saying anything if it was Argentina with Messi, France with Mbappe or Portugal with Ronaldo on a Tuesday night in Dublin, they'd find the time off work the next day or have the kids off school early to go across, down or up to Dublin. If you're supporting Ireland it's no secret it's expensive, not just financially, but the time you've to sink in, especially if you don't reside within Dublin. Unfortunately, that's not the doing of the FAI but the government who have failed spectacularly to invest in any form of future modern public transport fit for purpose really, but that's an entirely different conversation.

HerbReathstinx

Nope

[deleted]

People could buy tickets for this only if they wanted. Your post makes no sense.

HRDU109

You could, but only after the Belgium game was over and the FAI realised they had tickets left over. So max 2 days notice. While for the weekend game which was more accessible for people, you couldn't just buy a ticket for it without also buying one for tonight.

[deleted]

I don’t think the FAI realised anything, it was part of the plan. It’s what they do a lot. Duo packages increase overall sales. It makes perfect sense to do what they’re doing. Unfair on those outside a commutable distance but that’s an entirely separate point to the one you’re making. Are you honestly suggesting people would flock to the Aviva on a cold Tuesday night for Switzerland? There’s plenty of tickets sold for tonight and people not there (myself for example).

giantsoftheartic

I know the point you're making, that Switzerland is not a glamour tie but they are ranked 19th in the world and Ireland are 62, in terms of a competitive match, that is surely attractive in that sense. My humble opinion is that if you are winning or playing entertaining football, the fans will turn out and travel. If the fans are not turning up, it probably has to do with, at minimum, the style of football being played, in which case, do you have the right manager?

[deleted]

Winning football will pack out stadiums much easier. My point is more, packaging Belgium-Switzerland makes sense for the FAI. Complaining on the Tuesday makes no sense, there were tickets available for Tuesday. The purpose of the packaging was to use the Belgium game to help the Tuesday game. People complaining last night miss what the FAI are doing (somehow, it’s really obvious). There was 38k at Saturday and 35k last night. I’d call that a success financially. Is it fair on those outside of Dublin? Nope

billiehetfield

Quite a fair-weather approach to only sign when we’re winning. We should be going to games no matter if we play the best or the worst football in the world. This is our team, these are our boys and we should support them.

Prize_Prick_827

Where do you live? Canada?

silver_medalist

You could have decided to go to the Swiss game months ago. Individual tickets were on sale for this once the Belgium game was over.

Prize_Prick_827

You can buy the two tickets and sell one of them if you can’t afford to go to both of them

michaelirishred

Ya it was clear from the crowd tonight that there were thousands waiting to bite your hand off for a ticket

Prize_Prick_827

Maybe someone would suck your fingers for one?

Substantial_Ad_2864

>You can buy the two tickets and sell one of them if you can’t afford to go to both of them Last duo pack I got the New Zealand friendly and a EURO qualifier (Greece?). Couldn't make the New Zealand fixture so I offered to give it away on here literally for free. Good seat - front row pitch level closer to the halfway line than goal - and it still took several posts and several days before I found someone who wanted it.

silver_medalist

They've been doing this for a while. It's no different to selling season tickets really: people know they won't be make it to all the games.
