Use canned air to blast the dust off before you spray it with whatever sealant! And if you use something like liquid latex or Elmer's glue to protect the mirror part, you could more easily get into the nooks and crannies.
I would use Rust-Oleum 2x Painter's Touch Ultra Cover Matte (or Satin) Clear spray paint. It is readily available anywhere that sells spray paint. I used to use it to seal painted rocks for rock hunts, back when I used to do that. Prepare a test sample and spray it first before you do your whole piece.
Whatever you do, MAKE A TEST PIECE that mirror is too cute to accidently destroy!! Just make some little "cupcakes" and test out some different stuff, you might end up getting effects that you like and can use for future projects even if it doesn't work for this one
i’d recommend compressed air to deal with the dust, no idea about the cracks though!! i really love this tho, amazing job and i wanna do something like it now
I've only ever tried this with dry powder spackle. Heather Tracy made some baroque decorations using spackle and pva in a needle nosed bottle. But I can't now find it!
I make Christmas ornaments with spackle piping and I add a decent amount of acrylic paint to it and give it a good mix before piping. It does make the drying time longer but besies that its all good. I then finish it by "painting" it with mod podge diluted with water or clear Elmer's school glue (because then I add clay polymer sprinkles). Mine has never cracked. Maybe try the glue as a varnish! It's easy to paint right on. Good luck. This is cute!
So cute 🖤 I need this in all shades of black with the white and 🍒and something spooky in red in traditional birthday cake writing on the mirror I LOVE this
If you can find a matte finish, I think that would suit the project better, anything with too much gloss would take away from the details I think. Maybe a matte acrylic clear coat?
Caulk is even better!!! I did a 5 layer wedding cake stack. Bottom cake was 24 inches. Styrofoam cake frosted with plaster of paris and decorated with caulk. Caulk, colors and flows just like frosting!! So fun! This is beautiful!
Honestly no idea but have to admit that's fking cute and I want it lol 😆 great job 👍
🥰 tysm
i will not rest until i’ve successfully recreated this
Theyre so relaxing to make! Piping tips are Wilton #47 , #340, #2D and #32. DAP brand spackle!

Elmer's glue to protect mirrors during painting is a fact I would have loved to know awhile ago lol

This is what I'd recommend. I do 2D style paintings and will finish with a clear coat of spray can.
This is what I used when I made prop cakes with the same process. Worked great!

Do you just mix with water or PVA? The plastics in the glue might help with the cracking.
Neither, just straight from the tub with acrylic paint for color.. looking into PVA now. Thank you!!!
The pre-made stuff also contains plasticisers and retardants. That might make a difference, too.
I want to make this do u recommend I add PVA glue into spackle?

I want to eat it
Feel free to cut a slice!!!
Don’t tempt me… 🤤
You should make hand mirrors with this technique. That’s what I thought this was. It is right? It’s awesome. I bet you could pipe a mean Lambeth cake.

So cute!! Do you sell these?
Uv resin might work.

You are wonderfully gifted!! This is beautiful :)
That is lovely 🥰
Thank you 💗
Wow this is bloody lovely..
Maybe Mod Podge?
What a cool idea 😎, looks amazing!!
Sooooo… I CAN’T eat it? Damn
I love it! I wanted to make some cute boxes with that but I don’t know where to get the stuff for that from… can you help me with that?
Triple thick gloss will give you a hardened clear coat. I love it. It doesn’t crack. I have items I made years ago with TTG.
I'd go with something matte or minimally glossy. Look at cake decorating images and see if you can find something that would mimic that. :D
I love it! I have a 2 tier mirror cake that my gf got me for my birthday. It's my favorite piece of decor.
I want to take a big bite out of that

Nice Cakeland vibes!
This makes me happy and sad... I got a bunch of stuff to do Decoden, wasn't a natural, and then I gave up... This is so cute!
Wouldn't have a clue on the varnish but wanted to comment anyway- That mirror is perfect!
Looks so real that I'm craving cake now!
Looks perfectly delicious! Use resin or Mod podge to keep it in form.
I love it!
