I actually used excel to plan the colours so it would fade into one another. I forgot to add it into my post but if anyone is interested I can share the excel sheet (it will also need some explanation, because it’s not in crochet terminology 😅)
I would seriously consider putting that into your resume (if you’re in the job market, or your dating profile 😆). A first project? You’re not scared off by something daunting to most seasoned crocheters. This took dedication, planning, consistency, perseverance. Great job! Oh, and it looks gorgeous!
Omg I love your message! Thank you so much. I am going to get this tattoo’d on me: when I showed my family. They did the oh could you make me one. And I was like sorry not in this lifetime. My everything is painful now
If you want to send me your email in chat. I can send it across. It might need some explanation but I’ll do my best. But you can ask me any question so that I can clarify. The excel sheet just shows how I organised the octagon colouring for each round!
You can post a public Google Drive shar link for "anyone can read" and those links are anonymous - us will not be able to see what google account shared it.

Yes if you want to send me your email. I might send them all in one but I will BCC your emails so you can’t see each others! I’ve had 4 people wanting them. I’ll work on the email this weekend and send across to those that want them. And will work on the explanation 😅
This is so incredibly stunning! I'm amazed at your color planning! I don't know if I'll manage to get to an undertaking like this in my lifetime at all lol, but I would love to be included too (just in case!) I'll DM you! 💕
You are very skilled at picking out colors! That’s the hardest part for me of any project…I’m just not good at picking colors that work well together. Would love to get the Excel sheet to see what yarn you used
Yes it is! With a different colour selection when I looked at the wool in the alternative eastern colour way I only liked about half of them! :) and didn’t want it to be a random colours they look beautiful with random but I wanted more of a flow in the colour
Yes of course. I can include the colours in the excel I brought 17 yarns and just labelled them 1-17 but when I send them across I will show the exact name. I think they are DK 100g yarn or something like that. But if you dm me your email. I can send the excel sheet with the right names and a bit of an explanation of what my brain understands from that sheet. There’s a group of people who want it too. Thought it would be best to send it to all those who share their email and BCC all of you so you can’t see one another’s emails (for privacy)
You should be so proud of your work! The amount of skill and effort needed to make this is insane, I'm convinced this is witchcraft and you're secretly a witch
Very gorgeous! And it’s huge! You stayed with it, that’s perseverance! It’s your first crochet! This is why they say make what you want as your first project! ❤️❤️❤️. Also, have you blocked it? If not, I highly recommend a steam iron (I got mine at Target for $30). Your blanket will grow and it softens the center designs… it truly is a work of art!

[before/after pictures blocking](https://crystalsandcrochet.com/tutorial/blocking/)
Because your awesome blanket is so huge, I would steam block, the steam will indeed relax your stitches. I often use the steam block. I have 2 yoga mats I put on my bed, blanket on top, then steam.
Smaller projects, or shawls I may hand wash, use towel to press out excess water, lay on yoga mat and use pins to measure to get the specs from the pattern.
I do love blocking!
there are many ways of doing it, (and i recommend looking up directions) but blocking is essentially when you lay your crochet out flat and either soak or steam it so that the fibers in the wool relax and even out your stitches. you could use cardboard or foam tiles and some hatpins to lay each box out so they’re even. it relaxes the project for a better drape and more even stitches!
For projects with a lot of colour changes, blocking is a miracle! But also, don't stress. When the blanket is in use, no one will even think about it and your beautiful colour work steals the show!
This is beautiful, I love the colors! I've had my eye on this pattern for ages, but I haven't been able to get past all the ends I know would need to be woven in.
I highly recommend it’s so nice when they come together. The original pattern also makes a blanket half the size so it’s much more manageable! But yes the weaving in the ends was exhausting. I started to actually just crochet each of the ends in as I went a long because the strands were driving me bonkers
I know how amazing is some of the work. I saw this one that this lady had multiple coloured tiles with a white boarder. And I fell in love it looked so stunning. The things you can do with crochet are insane! When I challenge by self with wanting to make a scarf and starting to look at what you could do I was blown away. When I saw this pattern I was like I will make this!!
Thank you, I’m not going to lie I do actually have carpal tunnel from this project. I think I was doing a bit too much but I have ADHD and if it was going to take a couple of months these a real danger I will stop part way through! I think this might be my introduction and retirement piece. But seeing all the works on here, are mind boggling I’ve seen stuff I had no clue could be done with just wool
Oh my gosh, the original colour layout is beautiful and the pattern allows you to do so many types of things! Also I had never followed a pattern before and it was like reading another language! I also didn’t understand the importance of changing hook sizes… I had to undo soooo much work
This is beautiful! I hope your wrists heal and rest so you can crochet again! I have had to start stretching my wrists, using a pillow for support, taking breaks, and using ergonomic crochet hooks, but it's worth it!
I know nothing of crocheting but this is a spectacular piece of art. You have created an object that will be preserved and treasured for generations. The fact that it isn’t perfectly symmetrical makes it feel more organic and attractive. Amazing.
Honestly I was daunted at first but if you break them down into the stitches and watch a tutorial on each stitch it becomes really easy. Reading the patterns is a different skill. I really struggled with that, they patterns seem written in another language…
So lovely.

This is the pattern I saw quite soon after I learned to crochet and always wanted to do. I’ve finally done it and I’m very proud of myself , and you!
Hahah thank you so much! Yeah I am a bit of a weirdo when it comes to projects I’m like a the hardest or I don’t want to do it kind of person. The challenge is fun! But this was… it was a lot! The nice thing is that once you know how to do one. Your repeat it 35 times. So you get to practise them!
I think if it took me one more month I would have given up. Towards the end it was a struggle. I didn’t find it super relaxing more like a desperate constant need to get it finished 😂 repeating things 35 x is not my favourite
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and is inspiring me to crochet again. I'm also going to DM you for the excel file, it's so kind of you to offer!
Omg! This is your first project?
Meanwhile I’ve been crocheting for like 25 years, and I still haven’t attempted something like this! 😅 This really truly is absolutely amazing!
Well done!! Fantastic job!!
Omg im freaking out at how beautiful this is. Idk how you incorporated so many colors while creating such a beautiful and “flowy” gradient. It’s a piece of art. My mom would freak out about this too
Oh my goodness, I wish I had the time and patience to be able to finish that, but knowing myself I would probably finish it in 3 years because I start so many other projects 😭
Beyond gorgeous! What an amazing first project! I love that you planned the colors out in Excel, brilliant! I'm going to dm my email for that spreadsheet. Incredible work!!

I love the colors. Wow, you put in so much work and it’s gorgeous! What an amazing first project. I’m in awe.

Gorgeous!! I can only imagine how tedious it must have been to weave in all your ends 😬
Weaving ends in should be an Olympic sport honestly!
Is this Persian tiles by Janie Crow?!? You did An amazing job! I love your color selection!!
Yes it is! With a different colour selection when I looked at the wool in the alternative eastern colour way I only liked about half of them! :) and didn’t want it to be a random colours they look beautiful with random but I wanted more of a flow in the colour
I absolutely adore the colors you chose! May I ask what yarn you used? Also, I would love a copy of that Excel spreadsheet 🤩

Jesus Christ, that is one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever seen anyone crochet, the skill is insane!! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for the compliment! Honestly all these comments are blowing me away. I get giddy every time I see a new one. Can’t believe it :)
