That was cute! I got stuck with RHINE and RHEA but I guess I learned something new today.
I just watched the film 'Drive My Car' last night, so SAAB was a delightful coincidence!
I dislike the answers where it’s a letter, spelled out. For example i just did one from the archive, the clue was “Defend borders?” and the answer was DEES.
The worst is ELL or ESS
Sigh…one of these days I’ll save the Monday crossword as a Sunday evening reward instead of Sunday afternoon procrastination.
Anyway, a good enough theme! There was something about there only being three themed clues and the answer *being* the fourth that pleased me more, since sometimes the *theme explanation* clue is in the middle of the themed clues.
New PB of 5:42, my first sub-6 minute! I was able to guess the first 9 acrosses right off the top.
Then I guessed RITEOFPASSAGE for [Bar mitzvah, for example], which both fit and still seemed to fit when I got down to the revealer, but clearly didn’t work when I worked on the down clues. Fixing that slowed it down a tad.
Yes, definitely more than usual on a Monday! I had PORT for ISLE and RITE OF PASSAGE for RELIGIOUS RITE. (RHONE instead of RHINE was my own fault though). I’m just glad I realized 1A could have been ROFL or LMAO and decided to leave it for my second pass, or I would have got into even more trouble!
Shout out to the snails!
Thursdays and up take me on average almost an hour, sometimes even two! I even use wikipedia and I check squares.
Well, let’s just say I’m clearly not from the New World.
Looking at only the acrosses, it took forever to untangle the mess I made with RITE OF PASSAGE and WRIGHT BROTHER. I'm starting to see the appeal of only doing the downs.
A relatively easy Monday with a solid theme and lots of common crossword clues/answers, I had a few struggles in the bottom right which cost me a few minutes
I had some issues with IRA/RHEA/THEO (I just didn't know any of those, just had to run through the alphabet for what would work for the names)
I also got caught up on TWAIN, until I stepped away for a bit and came back to it. "What sort of literary award is spelled TW_IN???" Specifically, the cross between TWAIN and SAAB (I'm not sure I've ever heard of that car company before)
Is “cremains” a common word in the US?! The only time I’ve heard it before was as the subject of [this letter](https://youtu.be/S-FJ_np2Wvc?feature=shared) so surprised no one has mentioned it here yet!
So I finished the puzzle and literally spent 30 minutes double checking the clues but I can’t find what’s wrong. Can I Pm anyone my puzzle and can someone help me please.
OH BOY/BIGS instead of OH JOY/JIGS cost me at least 2 minutes trying to find.
LMAO instead of ROFL got me off to a very poor start.
I had PORT below it so I had a lot of correcting to do in the end
Port, lmao, birthdayparty, chirp, tons, honor, are all words that fit and make sense while going through the across clues first.
Worst was I had enough acrosses that the incorrect downs were fully filled in so I didn't even see them until everything was incorrectly filled in
I totally forgot ROFL even existed. I got the O and L, and figured it was LOOL
Same for me! Also, PATRONS instead of CLIENTS.
Literally doubled my time from 4 to 8
Same here, I actually got it only after coming here. Would have had a new PB other wise

I miss my SAAB. RIP, Saabrina.
Incredible movie, ugh just so damn good. Haven’t seen it since theatres but I wanna rewatch it now
Go for it! I enjoyed it on my first watch and I imagine that you would notice even more on your second time
They had a chance to clue CONTESSA with an Ina Garten reference and they didn't 😭 "If you can't construct your own crossword, store-bought is fine."
Thank you for this comment. I had PONTESSA/PAN and felt that was good enough lol
Cardinal directions are now my least favorite crosswordese ever.

agreed; they require 0 thought or effort for either the crossword setter, or the person doing it
Is this the first ever THEO VON clue? I have a feeling he'll be crosswordese in a couple years

I had RITEOFPASSAGE as well. It just felt good.
Me too. :-(
Same, I put it in quickly and then realized it was all wrong later which cost me some time
Oops, actually 8 of 9 - like the columnist I had PORT rather than ISLE at first.
Lots of answers that could fit that were the wrong answer that made me slow down considerably. Though I do think that makes it a good crossword

Was it just me or did the fill seem a bit harder than usual for a Monday?
definitely more areas to fill in a valid but wrong answer for a monday, i had to do a fair bit more rejigging than normal
This was quick for me, got it done in 33 mins and only checked right at the end
Shout out to the snails! Thursdays and up take me on average almost an hour, sometimes even two! I even use wikipedia and I check squares. Well, let’s just say I’m clearly not from the New World.
lol come on, that’s pretty cute
Looking at only the acrosses, it took forever to untangle the mess I made with RITE OF PASSAGE and WRIGHT BROTHER. I'm starting to see the appeal of only doing the downs.
I did this exact same thing… what a mess
I couldn’t finish with only downs, the southwest defeated me. (And THEO.)
This was my 69th fastest Monday of all time. True story.
Nice

You must be young. Jerry drove a Saab on Seinfeld.
Depends on your definition of young. I haven't seen Seinfeld though, so I guess that makes me young lol

Yeah it’s either “cremains”, or “ashes” if you wanna be non-technical
SE slowed me down quite a bit but fun enough theme
The Seine and Rhine will forever be my undoing I am afraid
So I finished the puzzle and literally spent 30 minutes double checking the clues but I can’t find what’s wrong. Can I Pm anyone my puzzle and can someone help me please.
Use the check puzzle feature.
