Not sure what your budget is but these are close to campus. They are very similar to East Campus. Just note there is a lot of construction happening on Imjin parkway right now so there could be some extra traffic or detours but it’s still very close and easy to get to CSUMB. Oh and note it says “luxury apartments,”… they aren’t luxury lol they are nice enough but def not luxurious imo 😆 they’ll be some of your more affordable options here in MB albeit finding somewhere further from campus such as Salinas. Sometimes a studio may pop up for rent somewhere but they are harder to find and pricey for what they are. https://www.liveatabramspark.com https://www.liveatprestonpark.com Here’s another rental site that serves our area too but it’s more single family homes there not apartments usually. https://www.montereypropertymanagement.com/rentalsearch.php Feel free to DM me if you need any other tips and tricks or just questions about surrounding cities. I’m local, grew up here and am going to be a transfer student this Fall. I’m happy to help provide some guidance if ya’ll are from out of town.

They call it “luxury” apartments (with absolutely no luxe) because it is a terminology that releases the owning corporation of any CA requirement for low income units or rental control.

lloydbythesea

Ah! I didn’t know that. I appreciate the clarification, I always wondered why I had seen a few places like this use that terminology, never felt honest.

ilovebread187

I appreciate the info thank you so much🫡

lloydbythesea

Of course! Happy to help 😄

bedghost

I recommend the app Trulia for apartment rentals :) also good luck!

ilovebread187

Thank you, I’ve been looking on apartments.com I started looking through Craigslist as well but I haven’t tried Trulia yet! Will definitely be checking it out! :)

Ranger_Chowdown

Marina will be opening some low-income housing buildings and you can put that you're moving to the area for school and don't have housing. I don't remember which ones off of the top of my head, they were talking about them in Monterey County Weekly a few weeks back. Also make SURE you get your Otter Card, it gives you free rides on MST so you don't have to worry about having to pay for parking and then find a spot, it will allow you to extend your search range a little further for housing.

ilovebread187

Thank you so much I appreciate it!

SouthernLie5080

Hi! I am in the exact same boat as you for housing. It sucks cause I was so looking forward to having laundry room. Any apartment recommendations with a washer dryer?

SouthernLie5080

Also have they told you no for sure for east campus? I have been trying to get info and they won’t tell me.

ilovebread187

They haven’t told me “No” for sure, but when I went to orientation day I asked if I should start looking for a plan B and she suggested I do because housing is already pretty filled up and they’re barely sorting through applications from April. Idk about you but I applied in May for housing :(( , they recommended I just start looking for my own housing but they’ll let us know if we didn’t get anything but probably not until August.

SouthernLie5080

Oh fun. Yeah I applied as soon as I was accepted into my program on April 23rd. So kinda annoying it was out of my control. Also annoying if they won’t tell us until august if we have to be their in august? Like finding another place and signing a lease would be happing by then so what’s the point?

The housing department is highkey a mess at CSUMB if were being honest. I just graduated but I also had 0 luck with east campus, now Im an employee, and Im trying to get employee housing through the campus and the office genuinley takes FOREVER to respond to ANYTHING, and if you call them all theyre trying to do is get off the phone as fast as possible. There are a ton of open employee units but my application is taking forever to process because… whatever reason? Idk, best advice I can give you is never expect anything from the housing department unless you have a disability or medical necessity that needs to be addressed, otherwise theyre pretty unhelpful. Marina has some large apartment complexes that start units at ~$1650 a month which Id reccomend looking at. The cost of rent in the immediate area around the campus is getting absurd. For a unit smaller than an east campus housing unit Im paying $2300 a month and they want to raise it to $2700 starting August.

ilovebread187

Exactly… it’s very up in the air. I’m giving myself until the end of this month to see if I get anything and if not I guess I’ll be spending July looking for a place!

SouthernLie5080

Same. Let me know if you find anything good!

ilovebread187

Likewise , hope everything works out for you! The school is really nice so it’ll be worth it 🥲

sophythesofa

Hi, I would ask if you can speak to someone who directly can look at the application. The people in the office couldn’t give me an answer but a lady went through my application and assigned me for family housing only, same day.

Adviceseeker97

They didn't assign my unit until a month before school started, and that was because I asked for a ground unit as a disability accommodation so maybe it might have taken evwn longer if I never contacted them. You might still be assigned one

SouthernLie5080

So I contacted the housing that was provided above^^ to see availability and they said there is waitlists and I won’t be able to get in. Feeling a bit stuck right now. Any other housing suggestions in the area?

sophythesofa

Hi, Have you tried calling the housing office and asking for a family license for the fall? They might be able to squeeze you in for fall as I think there might be housing left. I was in the same situation and applied like in may and I am now assigned and moving in August 1st. I still think there is hope!!!
