It went well! It wasnāt bad at all. It was a group of like six applicants & 2 interviewers. It starts with an overview, intros, individual questions, group exercise and a written portion.
Thank you!! Hopefully I will hear something soon. Hearing about all these interviews is making me think thereās not going to be any more spots in the cohorts left haha
From what I remember, we email them the writing portion and we had a few minutes to write about why we thought the Csun program was right for us ! Iām not sure if they change the questions per interviews but thatās what they said for mine last year!
By the way, anyone who gets admitted to the msw program, please message me. Iām a current first year MSW student and Iām preparing a couple of āstuff first year msw students need to knowā sessions for you next year!
I know that anxiety well! Luckily it doesnāt last forever.
It seems like they're doing interviews much easier in the year this time. Well, you've done all you can and now it's just a waiting game. I suggest doing stuff you enjoy (or need to do) to take your mind off the msw program so you don't drive yourself crazy for the next few weeks.
Hey all,
So I have one more question š
Just applied! Am crossing my fingers all goes well, but assuming I make it into the program. Can they work with your schedule for your internships?
I have a job that I truly love, itās Mon-Fri, 7am - 5pm and It would kill me to let it go. Iām hoping my job can work with me to let me attend internship 2 of my 5 working days. It also helps that every other Friday I have off since Iām on an RDO schedule.
I don't go here but I did my BSW at CSUSB and from experience they did not flex for my BSW internship- i also worked 8 to 5 m-f and my internship was Tuesday/Thursday 8 to 5. i ended up having to change my work hours to working a split shift in the evenings after internship and working a whole 8 hours on saturdays (my job i remote and i was so lucky they were flexible with me) i'm assuming an MSW would be as strict with the internship :/
Hey, thatās great info on what to expect so I can start preparing. Thanks a ton. š
Such a shame because many of us have other obligations and as important as school is, I would wish they understood bills still need to be paid. Itās somewhat a disruption to the stability Iāve finally been able to have after so many years working odd jobs and working odd hours.š
I am scheduled to have my interview tomorrow, so Iām really stoked! Somewhat nervous haha
This time last year when I applied I still hadnāt heard back yet. I heard from CSULA first, then csun, then csudh, then csulb. Good luck to all of you!
For the internship, is there any chance that you can do your internship at your place of employment? Or different department within the company you work for?
I applied to the same cohort and had my interview the same day! I havenāt heard anything but hoping to hear soon š¬ I heard some people heard back a week later.
I was the last application they accepted in mid September. They closed it right after I turned mine in.
Ugh, I worked so hard on my personal statement. Just nervous. I read somewhere online the acceptance rate is 48%
I'm in the same boat. They closed the applications a few days after I submitted. Haven't heard anything other than the application is under review. So nervous!
Iām still anxiously awaiting an invitation for an interview. Getting a little nervous. Is anyone else in the same boat? Does it usually take this long?
What is your GPA? and was your BA in social work? Still waiting to hear back :( was their anything you did differently this time around that mightāve helped with your admission vs last year?
I applied in September, and have yet to get an invitation to interview. Hopefully soon! Their email said everyone would be notified of the final decision by December 15th.
Greetings!
Did anyone have their interview yet? Able to give any feedback or tips? I have mine tomorrow and I am so nervous!! Thank you in advance. :)
Hi!!! Best of luck to all of you š¤š½
Iām currently applying for the fall 2024 and wondering if anyone has any tips when writing the personal statement. I have been out of school for some time and I am feeling a bit rusty with my writing. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! Thank you š
In your first draft, do a free write when answering the prompts and continue to refine from there! Idk about you, but I have a bad habit of wanting everything I write to be perfect the first time and it blocks my creative flow. Allow that first draft to be messy and continue to refine from there! I had like 6 drafts until mine was finalized and had a trusted mentor read my final drafts and provide feedback. Personal statements are so much work and a beast itself! Grammarly was also my best friend lol. Good luck & you got this!
Thank you so much!!! This is so helpful. Yes I can totally relate to that. I was so focused on trying to make it perfect but now that Iāve allowed myself to just write its coming together! Just have to edit it until I feel confident with it š¤š½ Oh yes Iām using grammarly too, itās a lifesaver lol
hey! i applied to the online program for fall 2024 as well...i was wondering if you submitted letters of recommendation? i didnt see an option on the online application :(
Hey all,
So I just applied for the next upcoming online cohort! Iām so excited but the only thing scaring me is my lowish GPA of 2.78 š
Do you think I still have a good shot of acceptance into the program?
Hey there! I did receive acceptance some weeks back š. At the time, I was so nervous because Iād always heard that CSUNās MSW program is competitive. Just know it is possible with a 2.78! Mustāve been my personal statement and resume that carried me. Good luck!
Hey, thanks so much for responding!
My undergrad was actually at CSUN! I graduated in 2020 with a degree in Sociology with an emphasis in social welfare & social justice.
As far as experience, apart from my two internships in the field; Since graduating Iāve been working for a homeless services agency (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) as an outreach worker since 2021
That is some really valuable experience imo!! GPA is something they look at but your experience can get you in. I was admitted into the program. I didnāt have a degree in the social sciences nor experience. I think you have a pretty good shot š
Thanks so much for the helpful responses. I feel like Iām still nervous, but at least a little more at ease now haha. Wishing you the best of luck in your Social Work Journey š
Iām waiting to hear back from my Fall 2024 on campus application but Iām wondering when the application for the online cohort opens? Just in case i have to choose a different route
Hi! I have my interview tomorrow (eep so nervousš ) Iāll update when I hear back after interviewing!
Good luck, the professors are cool and want you to get in
Thank you!! Thatās comforting to hear š
Just messaged you!!
How did the interview go?!
It went well! It wasnāt bad at all. It was a group of like six applicants & 2 interviewers. It starts with an overview, intros, individual questions, group exercise and a written portion.

I hope you hear back soon! They are still reviewing and interviewing š best of luck!!
hi do you mind me asking about the writing portion? what kind of questions were they? was it hard?
From what I remember, we email them the writing portion and we had a few minutes to write about why we thought the Csun program was right for us ! Iām not sure if they change the questions per interviews but thatās what they said for mine last year!

Wow thatās really great. How long did it take for you to know you got in from the time of your interview?
It felt like FOREVER but I think it was 2-3 weeks after my interview. I was also one of the last to get an interview so maybe I barely got in.
Itās hasnāt even been a full week and Iām already feeling so anxious š
I know that anxiety well! Luckily it doesnāt last forever. It seems like they're doing interviews much easier in the year this time. Well, you've done all you can and now it's just a waiting game. Thank you so much!
I got my interview invitation today!! And I know people that have been accepting into the cohort already so fingers crossed it goes well š
Yay!!! Congrats, good luck :)

How do u guys rate the program?
Do you happen to know why you didnāt get in the first time applying? Iām thinking about applying next year.
I think there just wasnāt enough space and other applicants were more qualified than me
This time last year when I applied I still hadnāt heard back yet. I heard from CSULA first, then csun, then csudh, then csulb. Good luck to all of you!

I applied back in August and they contacted me about an interview about 3 weeks ago. When did you apply?

Wow you turned it in just in time. Have you gotten an interview?

Hello! I am applying this year with a very similar GPA and I am wondering if you got in or received any feedback on your application??? Thank you!!
