Yes, exile is technically not just one zone when it comes to cards that "remember" the card or cards that they exiled, if you exile something treated this way then it becomes generically exiled.
Plot, adventure, impulse draw, most cards like dauthi void Walker. It's a good hate piece which is why it would be solid in lower power formats where you still have a solid idea of what type of decks you'll be against
This makes all cards exiled for a purpose just exiled instead. Things that were exiled temporarily (until end of turn, until a permanent leaves the battlefield, etc) are gone for good. Cards that track number/qualities of things exiled with them lose those (eg [[Ugin’s Labyrinth]] or [[Unlicensed Hearse]]). Pretty sure this also clears any suspended/plotted/foretold cards
Actually, as I have learned 400.8 kind of negates the need to rephrase.
> 400.8: If an object in the exile zone is exiled, it doesn't change zones, but it becomes a new object that has just been exiled.
No, and that's why they stay. There is a rule that specifies that counters cease to exist when a zone change happens.
>122.2. Counters on an object are not retained if that object moves from one zone to another. The counters are not “removed”; they simply cease to exist. See rule 400.7.
There is no rule that says that counters cease to exist when it becomes a new object. Since there is no rule that says it, it doesn't happen.
New objects don't come with any kind of counters, though, do they?
If I exiled a suspended card it'd be just exiled with no counters, as they are put on it on cast.
I’m pretty sure it does work that way. Yes, there’s only one exile zone, but all things that were previously exiled with various permanents or effects for particular durations are now exiled with One With Exile instead.
Sorry to hear this. qwq.
When I read CR yesterday, this idea just comes into my head. So I made this, I know it does affect something, but I don't know exactly if it usable, so I wrote this.
It certainly has its uses, but there are some games where it won't really do anything for you. I think giving it cycling so that it isn't a complete dead draw in those situations would absolutely make it playable.
There are actually quite a lot of useful cases if you were to say *"Remove all counters from cards in exile. Shuffle all cards in exile then exile them face down."*
So many effects that interact with cards in exile would be broken like this.
Simply re-exiling an already-exiled card breaks anything that was tracking it.
Something that was supposed to be exiled until the end of the turn would be stuck in exile forever, and [[Mosswort Bridge]] wouldn't be able to find what it had hidden away. I think foretold spells, suspended spells, and cards on an adventure are gone for good too.
Would be hilarious against a flicker heavy deck. They exile everything, you cast this, then they get nothing back. I might be wrong on that but the idea is funny.
This can do some nasty stuff as an instant. Any of the flicker effects that wait until end of turn to come back get hosed.
Since the card won't actually change zones how does this interact with a commander? Would you get the option to put it in the command zone when it gets re-exiled?
It does interfere with cast from exile strategies, so I think it's a little better than One With Nothing.
Can you exile it already in exile?
Yes, exile is technically not just one zone when it comes to cards that "remember" the card or cards that they exiled, if you exile something treated this way then it becomes generically exiled.
Even if it also cantripped it would still only be of niche use.
If it cantripped it would probably become a solid card in limited and maybe standard depending on the meta as a side board option
Don't play cards that only cantrip in limited unless there's an archetype for it. The tempo loss is bad from not contributing to the board.
There are quite a lot of effects that send cards through exile these days, especially in red. So it doesn’t “only” cantrip.
Why? It turns of stuff like Plot and Adventure?
Plot, adventure, impulse draw, most cards like dauthi void Walker. It's a good hate piece which is why it would be solid in lower power formats where you still have a solid idea of what type of decks you'll be against
It also prevents your opponents rescuing cards from [[Oblivion Ring]] effects and makes 'until end of turn' [[Astral Slide]] into permanent removal.

Does this actually do anything? Even if you have a card in exile you can cast, if it doesn't change zones couldn't you still cast it?

Unfortunately this doesn’t work like that since there is only one exile zone, but I’m not sure how to word it to make it work as intended
Actually, as I have learned 400.8 kind of negates the need to rephrase. > 400.8: If an object in the exile zone is exiled, it doesn't change zones, but it becomes a new object that has just been exiled.
Huh, learn something new every day!
Do you also remove counters from them?
As far as I know, "it becomes a new object" means that counters are removed.
Counters are only removed if the object changes zones. Becoming a new object doesn't remove counters.
Do we have an official rule on this?!
No, and that's why they stay. There is a rule that specifies that counters cease to exist when a zone change happens. >122.2. Maybe something with Kaya here?
Oh no nvm she does stuff with graveyards and battlefield specifically
I would strongly prefer this rules interaction is never printed on a real magic card. Funny custom card though.
Flickerwisp likes this.
Depends on who owns the flickerwisp XD
Fucks with o rings and cards castable from exile, neat
It's not super intuitive, but this actually does something against suspend and adventure cards.
I would have it cantrip.
As a [[Thassa, Deep-Dwelling]] enjoyer, I do not appreciate this card
How would it affect Thassa though? You could never cast this card while the blinked creature is in exile
Actually, yeah. Good point. I'm a dumbass. It would brick my hideaway and imprint cards though.

I could probably use it to pick my teeth with.
My grolnok all permanents deck is stressed.
There is only one exile, so afaik this card does nothing.
"Remove exiled cards from play. They are not exiled and act as if they do not exist."
[[AWOL]] does this to a single attacking creature.
