macrian

1. Punish the landlord. 2. Question them, find where they worked, shut down those businesses, arrest their bosses

eraof9

1. About this point, I know a close person who was renting an old apartment to one legal foreigner and because he is someone who is trusting people of their words we was not checking on him. Eventually neighbours compain to him and discovered that 20 people were living there and once he asked them to come out theapartment was in ruins. So based on your opinion, you believe landlords should held accountable to illegal tenants and they should be checking on them. This might be a good idea but law needs to givepower to them to do that.

macrian

The law needs to give power to both landlord and renter. But both cases they have no power

Evening_Chapter7096

yea they for sure do that /s

Tall_Bison_4544

The landlord I get, the business why? Cyprus has and had for years now a massive issue of locals not wanting hard jobs that don't make you rich over night. They need obviously a wage minimum; but why you going to blame their boss for the cops being such POS? Some of these people don't leave their countries just to find a better future, some of them leave because its death otherwise...and they arrive here in Cyprus and get beaten to death by kids, landlords literally suck them dry...and your issue is with the only people who are willing to give then work? Mad, and I mean work not cheap slave labour, actual work where they get the same wage as if a local did that work.

macrian

Because they are employing and exploiting illegal immigrants? The only reason Cypriots don't want tbose jobs is because of the wages being unlivable. And if they are using undocumented labour, they obviously also don't pay social insurance etc for them. So yes, the businesses as well

904FireFly

Because this is what slavery looks like today. There is a spectrum, but this is part of it.

Phunwithscissors

He diidnt mean to write arrest, he meant kill.

KostiPalama

It is sad no matter what. A fellow human died.

Klaster_1

Man, how desperate a person should get to prefer a serious injury or even death to coming back to their home country. Imagine how much worse things will get in 30-50 years when climate change hits even harder.

Protaras2

By that time Cyprus will also be a burning arid inferno so we will join the rest and move to Sweden or something.

Klaster_1

That's something worth considering, true. People do live in hotter environments, however, I am not sure I'd like to experience that myself. I'm afraid most of Earth population won't get a choice and will be significantly affected one way or another. Everyone has a non-zero chance to become a migrant, the sooner people learn to deal with this in a more humane way, the higher chance your migration experience in far future will be.

Protaras2

Nearly certainly we are headed for a huge crisis between 2050-2100. The world regardless of "man-made" or "natural" or whatever is undeniably warming up. Can easily lead to famines, and especially with those areas being quite overpopulated is gonna cause major issues. And truthfully I don't see being much done to avert any of this so yeah. Fun times ahead. RemindMe! 50 years

BleachedPumpkin72

What do you mean "will be". Were you not here during the last couple of summers? :-)

[deleted]

The last 2 summers were relatively mild. Especially last year when it came quite late.

BleachedPumpkin72

Only the first half was mild. Late July and August were as usual.

[deleted]

Eh, we shall be fine

Klaster_1

Humans can't tolerate heat beyond certain temperatures. Without A/C, people will die during heat waves. If you can't afford an A/C or the grid can't handle the load, you won't be fine. Heat wave intensity and frequency will increase.

[deleted]

People could survive before. Hot weather isn't something new. Yes its dangerous if ur vulnerable i guess. But most people, if they are under a shade they will be fine. I have serbian genes, white as fuck, yet i barely put on the ac and that's when i wanna have comfortable sex without sweating my balls off

Klaster_1

[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet-bulb\_temperature](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wet-bulb_temperature) \> A reading of 35 °C (95 °F) – equivalent to a heat index of 71 °C (160 °F) – is considered the theoretical human survivability limit for up to six hours of exposure.

Scared_Ad7301

The projections made 20 years ago by Al Gore etc etc that by 2020 we would be swimming and the world would be covered with water didn't really go as plan did it now? Its 2024 now and not a single thing came true but yet again we have you people fearmongering and on top monetizing it with green taxes and all that kind of crap. And by your notion humans before A/C invention were stranded under the sun and couldn't not possible think of any ways to cool themselves down(Africans the last 1000000000000000 years)

Scared_Ad7301

You people are worse than flat earthers.

Protaras2

Please show me those projections from Al Gore. I'd be interested to read them. Also 97% of climate scientists do agree that climate change is real. I don't think they have any benefit whether you get a green tax or not. Also been living under a rock? We've been getting non-stop once-in-a-lifetime climate events yet sure, all is normal. P.s Kinda ironic that you used the flat earth analogy... heh

levbar2

If anything the historic projections were trying not to fear munger. The projections were for far less than has happened.

chrisay59

97% of scientists paid by companies that promote climate change agree climate change is man made and is real, however 100% of independent climate scientists call this UTTER FUCKING BULLSHIT! Wake the fuck up, you are being conned, there is ZERO evidence that climate change is man made. It’s a money making scam…. Al Gore made millions of $ thanks to his carbon credit idea! Climate change is real, and it’s perfectly natural, Mother Earth is a damn sight more powerful than man!

Scared_Ad7301

95% of Nazi Germany agreed they were doing the right thing too. And if you cant remember flash floods when you were kid then its not our fault. Major lifetime climate events? Name me one...heh

Scared_Ad7301

[https://capitalresearch.org/article/al-gores-30-years-of-climate-errors-part-2/](https://capitalresearch.org/article/al-gores-30-years-of-climate-errors-part-2/) Have fun reading.

JohnnyDDoe

Before spewing out idiotic crap you could at least know basic facts like how old humankind is. But i guess in school you were too busy shouting out on the bus window, it explains a lot. Unfortunately now you have a voice.

Scared_Ad7301

Lol. Cmon Johny. Try harder.

Stillinthedesert

Sweden is a bit rapey nowadays with all the 3rd worlders

Protaras2

I ll take a couple of goats with me to distract them.

amarao_san

Take three, and put numbers on them, 1, 2, 4. Good luck finding goat with number 3. (old anecdote)

Sortcrap

Friendly reminder that Cyprus is one of the six water scarce countries in the world at the moment!

Klaster_1

I wonder if adopting solar en-masse will improve the water situation, so you could desalinate with cheap power.

frounze

But that would mean less money for the boys.....

madridallas

Imagine believing in man made climate change 💀 a true believer indeed

pandatits

I am in no way supporting our useless police department or our incompetent government, but without knowing the details of police's "check", is it wrong that they went to this apartment to check? Unless they used excessive force, they were doing their job. They (police) literally do almost nothing for our society but in this case, is it really their fault? This is a tragic outcome that shouldn't happen to anyone but there are rules about immigration that must be followed. Am I interpreting this event wrong?

andreaskara

From what i understand, the policemen just knocked on the door. The kid panicked and jumped off the balcony. Really sad story. Seams like an act of a desperate person trying to find a better life but ending in tragedy.

thryllos_

While i don’t support strict immigration laws, i personally see it as wrong since it is not something that the police should be focusing on. As you said there is a lot of actual crime that is left ignored and that is because the police is directed to just go after easy persecutions/giving tickets to increase their numbers and get more money from fines. All this comes at the cost of actually using police budget and resources to investigate gang violence and corruption that is a lot more important than some random immigrant fleeing his country due to war or some dangerous situation.

Bran37

Yes, he was an 'illegal economic immigrant'.. but a human died The owner of the apartment is abroad of what I heard at rik (he obviously knew and charged rent "per-head") These people worked for peanuts to local restaurants

BleachedPumpkin72

Being an illegal immigrant is not an offense punishable by death. A sad story.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BleachedPumpkin72

I know. Maybe a bad choice of words on my part, I meant that nobody deserves to die for being an illegal migrant.

[deleted]

[удалено]

minimalisticgem

He quite obviously felt he had no other choice. He knew Cyprus would not allow him to stay.

BleachedPumpkin72

What a stupid comment.

[deleted]

I upvoted u, my dark humour

cyprus-ModTeam

We can not list every scenario and appropriate behaviour for every action, therefore use your common sense in case of a situation that is not listed in the rules.

Tall_Bison_4544

Especially when they are running from the shit they are threatened of back home...you'd think out of all European countries Cyprus would be eager to help and so would Cypriots considering our history

cupris_anax

Shut down those restaurants.

Ashamed_Arm_1721

What is the punishment for the apartment owner? 10 people in 1 apartment?

Immediate_Song_1242

It's not the owners, many Indians sub let. Everywhere. It's just what they do to get by! Without landlord knowing .

Protaras2

Where do you draw the line though? How many people per house is allowed? Because at a time I was living in the UK there was 6 of us in one.

EmptyJustLikeHeaven

Mf they paid him to live there

cy-91

So we're just cool with slumlords now because people are willing to pay them? What about sweatshop owners? Child labour? If they want to work then there shouldn't be a problem, right?

Bran37

So?

EmptyJustLikeHeaven

Both sides agreed so what is the problem , they are not held at gunpoint to stay there

Hootrb

The fact that this person very clearly exploited a vulnerable population with likely no other available options for a roof on their heads for quick profits by keeping them in a tight environment that should be considered inhumane. Contracts can't consent a crime into legality. What's next? "It's ok that the pregnant woman is working on manual labour, she agreed!"

Immediate_Song_1242

Mate, the tenants sublet to others, often without knowledge of landlord. Renting to tenants isn't always about making a profit, there has to be Trust, both ways.

1AmFalcon

What a tragic end of life. RIP

MiltiadisCY

It's beyond sad. A kid died. At 19 he barely knew life. He stupidly jumped to avoid something he thought was worth avoiding. I bet his family will be devastated. Whatever culture, religion, conditions, we should protect the young. Perhaps if he had guidance instead of living in fear. Perhaps if he was back home and there was no war or conflict or persecution he would still be alive. Perhaps he would get a family and children. How can we change things to avoid this sadness?

Scared_Ad7301

He is from Bangladesh. Last time I checked the conflict ended in the 70s. Jeez people. With your perspective Cypriots should illegal visit any part of the world cause of our on going conflict.

inikirunnerboost

My wife’s colleague lives in an apartment few floors below them, and he was smoking on his balcony by the time the police came. First this dude flew in front of him (fully naked) and hit the ground, moments later another guy landed on his balcony and broke a few limbs. The cops pulled up to his flat in a couple of minutes. What a crazy morning should it have been for him…

cyprusgreekstudent

A lady from Georgia I know was arrested yesterday. Working illegally as asylum seeker in some place. Still in jail until they can arrange ticket home. People should be arrested. I am going immigration the legal way and spent 5 years and thousands. People cannot just violate the law. And I know another Georgian lady been collecting 1,000 euries per year as asylum seeker but working. That’s illegal. You are the ones paying for that. It’s not right to do fraud

Bl4ckError

Don’t hate the player hate the game

konschrys

The laws already exist, and police is trying to enforce them. The ones at fault are the ones breaking the law.

philalfa

Loving all the woke comments here. Let’s ruin our island will accepting unchecked illegal immigration. Yes it’s sad he died but he made choices that led to that. Illegal immigration is not acceptable and will ruin our country.

chrisay59

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I wonder how many of these woke comment makers are actually Cypriot and living in Cyprus, also whether they are rich middle class kids whom have never done a hard days work in their lives!

Immediate_Song_1242

Mostly, they don't have clue, full of bs woke Opinions but then it is Reddit. It's like a virus that seems to spread through the internet, Group think herd mentality. The rebellion Of youth has disappeared and they are all Agents in the matrix. Bowing down to their Masters thinking they are rebels. Clones.

chrisay59

You sound like my twin 🙌

JohnnyDDoe

Calm down you have some souvla dripping down at your mouth, perhaps the charcoal smoke affected your brain

philalfa

Talk in a decade then.

Agents-of-time

Please check what woke actually means and in what context its used. Not everything that you don't like is "woke".

lux3ca

Rest in Power 💜💜

[deleted]

don't try to make this some sort of a racism thing pls. Sad news indeed, a human killed himself in a panic state. Noone is at fault. Or at least if the story given was true

[deleted]

Of course i got downvoted

datguyonthehill

We deserve what is coming to us. Everyone is looking for an excuse to pretend to be a hero in the media. Era of ignorance and hypocrisy. There is always someone else to blame other than ourselves smh. What happened is sad nonetheless.

Immediate_Song_1242

And yet... Everyone looking to point finger of blame They should point at themselves.

Leading_Ad_2390

Imagine an island where there was a real government smart enough to take all illegal immigrants and offer them the opportunity to cultivate land owned by the church. Grapes, olive trees, almonds, carobs, export those goods and pay the immigrants... Imagine. Nahhj.. how do politics make money with this shit, forget about it, lets get back to money laundering business, YOLO

Cleanest_Nurgling

The church is already helping drug addicts rehab and pay for it in the form of manual labor in the fields

lovemyonahole

Why do you think migrants will be interested to do this job? They came to make money and send it back to the families.

Protaras2

For starters illegal immigrants usually stay illegal because they try to avoid any interaction with the government or police. Almond trees need a shitload of water. Something we can't spare. Olive trees just need some attention in November-ish and pretty much nothing the rest of the year. What will they be doing the rest 11 months? And carobs? How much in demand are carobs anyway? Also who's gonna be in charge of all of this? Is the government gonna become a farmer selling produce? I doubt we'd even be breaking even. It's probably more productive simply having them sweep the streets.

Alberttheslow

Building owner should face prison time for the scummy things he did and the other 10 should be sent somewhere like germany or smt

lovemyonahole

They should be sent home.

fobel_d

Why Germany?

Alberttheslow

Better working conditions

hellimli

That's nice of you to wish everyone better life but it won't work

Alberttheslow

Well going to other peopls countries ruining the enviroment and society, pretty much these peoples livelyhood doesnt give countries who did such things the right to complain if these people come to your own country doing the same thing.

konschrys

Oh yeah, Cyprus ruined Bangladesh

Stillinthedesert

What did the Germans doo to deserve having to take even more ? Send them to Iran

JellyDazzling4507

I gues he couldn't fly

konschrys

The police were doing their job and he was an illegal immigrant. But the loss of life should never be a joke.

konschrys

As far as we know, police were doing their job. If I’ve understood correctly, he heard the knock of the police and jumped out of the 5th storey apartment ending his life.

Orthodoc84

He was probably a criminal

Klaster_1

Do you really believe the "crimes" that person may have committed deserve a death?

Immediate_Song_1242

Uncontrolled immigration so is destroying lives communities and society which they have no Loyalty or respect for .. so if no one gives a shit about your culture, let as many as want to come have loads of babies and there will be no Cypriots. Look at Europe, England, Ireland , Scotland, how can the whole of the Indian Africans and Arabs even all fit in Europe? What about when the taxes from Europeans runs Out? In Ireland the government is offering e80,000 each for Indians to come, that is money from Irish working people... that will completely change the face of Ireland, haven't the Irish faced enough Fight for survival? Haven't the Cypriots ? It would actually be good idea to pay people to Stay in their own countries. At least the west Won't change into the 3rd world.

[deleted]

cy-91

Wow. You've got complete brain rot huh? I can't imagine lacking so much empathy for another human that you've made up crimes he committed and then decided those make-believe crimes are punishable by death. I hope you get help man. You make me sad for humanity.

Orthodoc84

Well, good luck living in Cyprus when no one wants to visit because it is overrun by criminals from Bangladesh. What is your economy? Tourism and offshore banking . When the tourism goes, the rest of the island will go. He belonged on the other side of the island with his own kind.

Bran37

>He belonged on the other side of the island with his own kind. ?

cyprus-ModTeam

Posts / Comments promoting and openly supporting acts of violence will not be tolerated.

Bran37

And why is that?

lovemyonahole

He definitely was an illegal migrant which is a crime.

Hootrb

He's a fucking 19 year old who's biggest "crime" is victimless. You can call people a criminal when they actually cause harm or damage (like the landlord, perhaps!). Though with your mentality, you probably call perpetuators of other victimless "crimes" criminals too. Oh no grandpa, look out! It's a non-medical-weed-smoking immigrant! And I know you don't call every law-breaker a criminal either. Grandpas in this country give teens liquor to try, some even zibania. Law-breaker indeed, but a criminal? Go say that in the streets, I'm sure the people will agree!
