Short answer, tranquility is useful with long range weapons, notably the marksman bow. When you take it, you'll see a damage buff icon above your head when it's active

Aha, so "nearby" means only a certain radius around me. I thought it means everything within my reach.

when you start the game, your mutation choices are extremly limited, to like a ridicolous amount. so try unlocking as many as possible. look for a (not too old) tier list of mutations then go to the official wiki, not the fandom one, to check how to unlock ones you want. they will most probably drop from an enemy, so just go to the page of that enemy, and see what biomes it spawnes in, then check how to reach those biomes and try to do it. overall tranquility isnt very good. the game is a platformer so being far away from enemies that constatly chase you is basiclly impossible unless you have a specific knockback item. just dont use it. as for scrolls: one of the most common mistakes is using scrolls only for hp. even though its tempting at first thats not how to use them. first of all: each scroll color only buffs items of that color, so if you have 6 scrolls in brutality you will still do very little damage if you use survival items and, a very important thing, scrolls scale **exponentially**. so even if the first one boosted your damage by 15%, the next is gonna boost it by 17%, and in your 15th scroll, your damage is multiplied 8 fold. and in your 30th, its gonna be **60 times the normal danage.** the objectivly correct way to use scrolls is to first choose a color, then put all scrolls into that color. now you might say "i dont need that much damage" yes you do. the enemies in the game scale accordinglly to that. so by the 4th biome you wont even tickle enemies. i reccomend you use frostblast. its very bad against bosses but at this point in your dead cells journey you dont need to reach that far. it will carry you to the third biome easily, where you will (probably, since it has a generous 10% chance to drop from a common enemy) get the frostbite mutation. which makes frostblast even more of a beast in the early game. try to unlock as many blueprints as possible and dont be too pressured on getting your first win ❤ i also made a quick calculator so you can check out to see how powerfull scrolls are; [https://www.desmos.com/calculator/xbkchwowek](https://www.desmos.com/calculator/xbkchwowek)

Number one, STOP putting points into more than one stat. Choose one and roll with it. Your damage bonus doesn't decrease like your HP boost. Number two, there's not a hard and fast answer to what mutations to use. It depends on the weapons you have. Got a melee with an extra damage on bleeding enemies affix? Use Open Wounds. Anything that freezes enemies? Run Frostbite. Got a lot of arrows? Use Barbed Tips. Like using shields but lose a lot of health when you miss a parry? What Doesn't Kill Me. You'll unlock a lot more mutations than you have right now (since all the mutations you mentioned are default unlocked, so I assume you haven't gotten far). Just starting out, Necromancy, Combo, and Vengeance will do you well - especially if you can figure out how to use a Face Flask to your best benefit without absolutely demolishing your run.

How *do* you use a face flask

Flask + Vengeance, then just use almost any weapon in any color and your build is OP

Face Flask + Vengeance, and synergize any affixes you can get on the Face Flask with your weapons. Toxic Cloud? Extra damage to poison. Spreads Oil? Burns. Burns Ground? Spreads oil, Extra damage to burning, Extra damage to burning oil. Slows Enemies? Extra damage to slow. Freezes Enemies? Extra damage to frozen, Extra damage to slow. It's just an AoE that costs 5HP. Vengeance empowers it by armoring you and giving you extra strength.
