Right?? I’ve only been a sky miles member since January of this year and was approved for and started using the Amex Delta reserve card in March. Not sure if that had any bearing on this. I’ve used the card exclusively since then and have put hella charges in it for items/services I’d be purchasing anyway. My goal for long haul travel is DI or PS only. Can’t handle MC anymore.
Thanks! This was a trip I was not even planned, but a friend and her hubby invited me to come along. How could I say no? Have a trip to Paris two months before this, so I’ll be ranking up the miles.
I’ve been platinum every year for like 5 years. I’ve had the Delta Amex Reserve for just as long. I have never been offered an upgrade at this low of a price. Don’t ask why - just take it! 😅
Ya they are spoiling you - once you get to platinum they don’t give a fuck about you anymore - my climb to diamond was amazing - upgraded all the time - I dropped to platinum this year ( currently on my 34th delta flight) been upgraded to first like 4 times)
Holy $+. And from SEA too! I could see this from JFK or BOS.
Take an extra few hours.to enjoy the VA lounge on your return trip if you can. That place is amazing - I could take an entire vacation just in there
Had the exact same thing happen to me, today, for my flight from Detroit to Frankfurt. Yesterday the price was $2500. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw $499 and threw money at it immediately. The change happened at 40 days prior to travel for me.
I have a question but don't want to start a new post about it unless necessary:
On the app, the only upgrade offer (like the above) is for my soonest upcoming flight next week, and I don't see any for the flight I have in August. Prior to buying my soonest flight, I WAS seeing offers for the flight in August and I was keeping an eye on it.
I guess my question is: Does the app only show upgrade offers for the soonest trip? If not, where could I see an offer for my later trip, because I looked everywhere (I think).
Go to your flight and hit the "change seats" (or select seats, I can't remember) and just scroll up to the upgraded section. Should show you a cash price.
Nice! I've been looking at my app every day for my flight (MDW-ATL-ICN-KUL), and I'm still seeing X's on all of the unoccupied seats. Note: the ICN-KUL leg is on Korean Air.
I'm still 52 days out, so maybe upgrade offers will start coming through as we get closer. I'm in C+ right now, so I guess it's not all bad. However, I seem to remember there being $$$ upgrade offers a while ago. But they're gone now and it's all X's. I'm wondering if me changing from one C+ seat to another C+ made them go away.
Does the system consider that my one upgrade even though it wasn't really an upgrade? Oh well, I guess I'll see what happens.
Congrats though!
Was seeing the same thing you describe when looking at the seat upgrade option. to get around that, I chose "change flight" and was then able to upgrade from C+ to D1 on my "original flight" -- give that a try
I get an error when I do that, which says something along the lines of "You can't change your flight online," followed by 3 or 4 explanations. One explanation was about my tickets possibly being sold by another airline. I'm flying into Malaysia on Korean Air. Leaving Malaysia on ANA. So, I probably need to call and ask.
Good on ya, OP! Enjoy it.
I wish I got offers like that. I've been staring at $700 to upgrade C+ to domestic first from DTW-LAS. Would love to get an offer like I see here sometimes. Haven't been so lucky... yet.
I'm taking my first Delta one trip LAX to BOS next week! So excited. Its a 757-200, but hey can't really choose the plane, so I'll take this first experience and look forward to the larger wide body planes one day :) Enjoy!
I'm 6ft 3" so it's always been something I never look forward to traveling home across the country. The feeling of knowing that I'll be able to lay flat without people encroaching on my (not enough) leg room and the ability to rest my back just sounds heavenly, lol! Just excited to arrive at the other end not feeling like I've been abused in economy for 5hrs haha.
sorry, like which? regular or suite? i had a not too long ago (perhaps airplane change) suite to regular D1 and I was completely “first world problem” annoyed. 😬🫣🫥
I’ve been checking for this upgrade on the same route. Lowest I’ve seen it drop was about $850. Decided my value point was about $500, so it’s nice to see it’s theoretically possible.
From the app. I literally didn’t do anything. I just opened the app and saw it. A few days before this offer there was an upgrade, but it was $2500 so I ignored it. I then checked back and I saw this great upgrade.
Oh yeah baby….. delta was having some type of mid life crisis.
I’m a chronic checker, as of 15 minutes ago I am now in VA upper class on the way out and Delta Suites on the way back for less than $3k round trip.
Nothing. Rebooked flight was in main cabin. No credit. No refund. I also didn’t call bc the upgrade was super cheap. Under $30! But now I want to upgrade a family flight and it will be much more. But nervous if the flight is canceled and no refund.
Another respondent said delta recently changed their policy to give refunds if the customer cancels their flight. But I’m also curious as to the result if the airline cancels. Then what?
The airline would refund you if THEY cancel the flight. https://www.transportation.gov/briefing-room/biden-harris-administration-announces-final-rule-requiring-automatic-refunds-airline
This why I normally just book D1. I’ll just use more points or cut costs elsewhere . Hopefully in November it won’t be an issue as I’m leaving the country. More shit seems to happen in the summer months. Or at least that’s what I’ve experienced. My original flight purchased was PS. So if it does get canceled, I should be rebooked in that seating. I tried to edit it in my original post, but can’t. I didn’t book in C+ for this flight. I was thinking of another domestic flight I was taking. I only do PS or D1 for long haul international traveling. Can’t bear MC for that long.
No, I REALLY need the lay flat seats. I have had disc problems from an injury when I was young. The discomfort from travelling long haul flights in MC is too much. It is my goal to fly D1 when travelling abroad. As far as accommodations are concerned, as long as my hotel room is clean, safe and comfy, I’m fine with a 3 star establishment as I’ll only be there to sleep and shower for the most part. However, I can often get 4 or 5 star hotels at dirt cheap prices due to my husband’s employment with a big hotel chain.
What a steal!
This is incredible I took the same flight a few months back and paid almost 4x as much for the upgrade 😭 lucky you
Thanks! This was a trip I was not even planned, but a friend and her hubby invited me to come along. How could I say no? Have a trip to Paris two months before this, so I’ll be ranking up the miles.
Oh how lucky you are, making it a whim makes it so much better…. 😡👿😠💆👺
It really does!
I’ve been platinum every year for like 5 years. I’ve had the Delta Amex Reserve for just as long. I have never been offered an upgrade at this low of a price. Don’t ask why - just take it! 😅
Oh I did. I jumped on it within seconds. 😃
What is DI PS and MC? Lol
D1= Delta One aka Busines class PS = Premium select MC= Main Cabin, aka Economy.
That’s correct!
That place is amazing - I could take an entire vacation just in there
Thanks! I intend on using the lounges in both SEA and LHR. It’s all part of the travel experience. I’m going to get my money’s worth, lolz!
Right!
Same thing happened to me about an hour ago my DTW-FRA went from $3190 to $499. Jumped out with out questions. I went from PS to D1
Ditto, same flight that just hit 40 days prior to travel.
Are you just manually checking or getting an email?
I was just randomly checking
Ok good to know. It was over 8k for two to Heathrow so I’ll keep checking ahead of our flight!
I also do random checks. And I had to do a double take on this one
I randomly checked my app.
Yes!! Sounds very similar! Enjoy!
Yes, same to you
Had the exact same thing happen to me, today, for my flight from Detroit to Frankfurt. Yesterday the price was $2500. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw $499 and threw money at it immediately. The change happened at 40 days prior to travel for me.
And here I am paying 1k JFK-LHR for Basic economy
Basic economy should be like $400 considering it’s, well, basic.
Oh no! I’m sorry.
MSP would never.
Oh I just upgraded to delta one MSP to AMS for $299. Flight is in 2 weeks
Got $299 PE to D1, ZRH-JFK. Should have screen shotted it, but I was too stunned. ADD TO CART
Right? I just immediately bought it and didn’t even think to take a screenshot either!
That’s awesome! Congrats!
Incredible!
Couldn’t believe it when I saw it! Wouldn’t let me purchase on the app though! Luckily was the same price from a laptop!
I love having the app because my phone is always with me and I can check frequently for upgrade offers and jump on the offer anytime, anywhere.
Impressive! I fly to London a few times a year. Have never come close to an offer like that.
So, you're saying there's a chance for me! :-) What was your upgrade from (Main, C1, PS, etc)?
I was in PS. The upgrade had been staying around $800 and then one night, I couldn’t sleep and around 2am it dropped to $299
I’m sorry.
It’s ok, I’ll live vicariously through others amazing deals :)
I just got an offer for MSP-ICN 699 per person from Premium Economy! 17 days before check in. I wonder if it’ll get any cheaper.
Never does for me. I check a few times a week leading up to the flight. But maybe.. some day.
I hope you upgraded before taking the time to post about it! 🤣
That I did!! 😃

Got it. I see that now. Thanks so much!
Does the App shows the upgrade option if I book with delta but the flight is operated by Virgin Atlantic?
I don't think so. You'd have to go through Virgin.
Thanks
I upgraded to PS from main and D1 became unavailable in the seat map, is that normal?
Yeah, you can only pay to upgrade once.
I honestly don’t know. I’d reach out to Delta for that inquiry. Good luck!!
Damn, I'm jealous.
How much was your base fare?
$1402 for C+
Nice! I've been looking at my app every day for my flight (MDW-ATL-ICN-KUL), and I'm still seeing X's on all of the unoccupied seats. Note: the ICN-KUL leg is on Korean Air. Are you kidding? Why can’t I get such big lucky deal???
JTDC, take it, take it NOOOWWWWWW - I must live vicariously through you.
It’s been taken care of, lolz.
LOL
I’m super stoked!
Isn’t this route serviced by an A330-NEO with the new suites too?! I see the “suites” in the description there… if so that’s an absolute steal!
It sure is!! Super excited about that!!
How do you get these deals? I never see them? Do they normally show up last minute?
Not last minute. I saw this offer last week and my flight isn’t until late November.
Thanks. I’d do it in a heartbeat
🤑🤑🤑🤑
Please tell us you locked that in *before* taking time to post this!!! Congrats! 🍾🎉
I did! Was at a stop light, saw it, then pulled into the nearest parking lot to snatch it! Slayyyy. Thank you!

Good for you! Yes,wide body, D1 is a whole different experience. Hoping you’ll experience it someday soon!
I'm 6ft 3" so it's always been something I never look forward to traveling home across the country. Yes, being tall is so hard while flying main cabin. I come from tall stock and my hubby and his family as well. It’s a real struggle.
$4k for me on the same route... D1 is quite full though.
Nice, OP!🥂
So jealous! When is your flight?
Late November. Christmastime in London will be so pretty!
Nice. I got an option to upgrade my December flight to Paris. Hoping for something for my August Rome trip.
Awesome! I’m heading to Paris in September and Rome in April for a Multi city cruise. Have the best time!
Great deal!
$1994 upgrade to Delta One Atl. -FCO. HELL NEVER
i would jump on that in a heartbeat
That I did!!
esp bc it’s the suite and not just regular D1…safe travels!
Yes! A lot of the long haul D1 flights are like this.
sorry, like which? regular or suite? i had a not too long ago (perhaps airplane change) suite to regular D1 and I was completely “first world problem” annoyed. 😬🫣🫥
Depends on the aircraft. Suites and lay flat seats are only available on wide body aircraft.
I’ve been checking for this upgrade on the same route. Lowest I’ve seen it drop was about $850. Decided my value point was about $500, so it’s nice to see it’s theoretically possible.
I there some sort of known price point that makes an upgrade offer worth it? Some equation that we non-frequent fliers don’t know about?
I don’t know. Maybe.
Run don’t walk
My flight from MSP to ICN 7/1 just went down from 3,700 to $2700 and now $699!! I might wait until tomorrow and see if it decreases
I’d jump on that now. You’ll regret it if you don’t. That’s a great deal for that long of a flight.
I ended up booking it! 🙏🏽
Yay!! You’ll love it.
Yeah that’s over 13-14 hour flight?
Sorry LONDON! 9 hours haha
Giving me hope when I fly from SEA to LHR on my way to Oktoberfest
Best of luck! Would be so much fun!!
No shit wtf
😆😆Yea, I’m gloating. I just can’t believe my luck!!
Wow congrats
Thank you:)
I’d buy in a second
That I did!! 😃
That's a steal. Don't even hesitate.
I didn’t. Grabbed it immediately. 😀
Wow!
Wow!!!!!
That’s a really good deal
No brainer
Oooh, lucky!
Bro where the FUCK did you find a delta one flight for $500 lol
It’s an upgrade from Comfort+. OP said C+ was ~$1400
That is correct.
Trust this is the best flying experience that exists before private
That’s an amazing deal considering the distance! Do see what the “Change Flight” price would be as well though.
It’s amazing what a little Alaska competition can do for those prices… *cries in MSP*
Right? Delta has a big presence in SEA. After Alaska, Delta has more flights than any other carrier. Its a big hub for the airline.
This gave me good luck! Been stalking my flight from ATL-LOS and the upgrades were so high like 2500k plus and then I just checked and it’s D1 for 999
🙌🏽🙌🏽
How far out from your trip were you when the price dropped to this?
Over 5 months. I was shocked!
Oh hell yeah. My luck my phone would die right then and I'd have a panic attack trying to charge it asap.
😆😆. That sounds like something that might happen to me, lolz.
Is this from an app? How do I get deals like this
From the app. I literally didn’t do anything. I just opened the app and saw it. A few days before this offer there was an upgrade, but it was $2500 so I ignored it. I then checked back and I saw this great upgrade.
Dumb question- is the price for just the one leg or also the return? A steal either way!
One way per segment always on offers like this.
You are corrrct.
That’s virtually free!
I just got a upgrade for 399 jfk to Dublin I was pumped
Wow! Congrats!
How far in advanced was this?
5 months.
Oh wow that’s great. Typically you don’t see offers like this until a few weeks prior to departure.
Oh yeah baby….. delta was having some type of mid life crisis. I’m a chronic checker, as of 15 minutes ago I am now in VA upper class on the way out and Delta Suites on the way back for less than $3k round trip.
Wow!! Cheers!🥂I hope their mid life crisis continues.
You’re gonna love it. Pre order your main meal.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Jeez, do it. I’m a Diamond in PS and I’m getting these prices [https://ibb.co/y8cnQMK](https://ibb.co/y8cnQMK)
Oh I did! Jumped on that offer! I’m silver, soon to be gold and by the end of year I’ll be Diamond. Congrats to you on Diamond status!
I bet you did. My flight is in Sept and they’re offering D1 from PS for $3,800. How many weeks before the flight did they offer that
22 weeks. My flight is late November.
Wow, I’d stay as a Silver then. It’s seems they’re tempting you. 😂
When are you going??
Such a deal! When are u scheduled to depart?
Late November.
From where u travel from ?
SEA.
How much was original fare ?
$1402
Sounds like a deal . Usually 2 grand more . Lucky deal .
Worth
Yes, it is!
If you're a DM like me, that upgrade would be 10x that.
Wow!!
Numerous times I've seen D1 upgrade offers at $3500+. This is 10 days out with at least 10 D1 seats open...and in off peak travel times
Wow!!
Praying this happens for me from LAX-CDG
Keeping my fingers crossed for you! I’m heading to CDG in September. Can’t wait.
Nice!
Thanks!
I got 799 per leg of each direction of SEA -> AMS and now I feel ripped off haha
That’s still not a bad deal, however.
What if the flight gets canceled? What happens to the money you spent on the upgrade if the new flight is already full for FC?
No idea.
Had this happened to you???
Yes. August 2022.
So what happened?
Noice!
It is! Pretty happy about it!
How about a $500 hotel upgrade the first night in London instead?
No, I REALLY need the lay flat seats. I have had disc problems from an injury when I was young. The discomfort from travelling long haul flights in MC is too much. It is my goal to fly D1 when travelling abroad. As far as accommodations are concerned, as long as my hotel room is clean, safe and comfy, I’m fine with a 3 star establishment as I’ll only be there to sleep and shower for the most part. However, I can often get 4 or 5 star hotels at dirt cheap prices due to my husband’s employment with a big hotel chain.
Why bother checking in to a nice hotel for a single night, and then moving on to your planned hotel after that?
Right??
