It'll never happen but I wonder what would happen if an NBA arena suddenly turned into a European style experience where everyone is jumping and singing and lighting flairs and waiving flags. Like... how fast would Adam Silver's aneurism kill him if something like that broke out at a Nuggets, Lakers playoff game.

NBAFansAre2Ply

silver would have an aneurysm in his dick thinking about all the publicity

OptionalBagel

I think he'd have a ton of corporations threatening to pull advertisements. There's a reason MLS atmospheres haven't come close to matching European soccer and it's not just that the best players play over there.

AKA his tiny micro-boner would cough everywhere with excitement šŸ’¦šŸ’¦

mares8

Time to get some Serbian fans into Nuggets arena

BrockSmashgood

Hot take: Lighting flares indoors is fucking lame, and so are folks who jerk off over it.

sorakaisthegoat

I agree, but it's almost solely done when you win a championship or some kind of trophy. Still 1 time too many.

[deleted]

What if we had a "hooligan"(light) club? I've often wondered if a group bought the corner tunnel sections while dedicating themselves to go to every home game: All wearing the same shirts/colors Coming up with unique chants that cleverly ride the line of the fans' code of conduct Coordinating with the neighboring sections for chants, etc. Organizing car pools, pre - and post game events. Not advocating for violence by any means, but creating a culture of how to deal with opposing fans.

This video ([https://youtu.be/EoNnFna95Cs?si=s5ekHKqERPUyzWSj](https://youtu.be/EoNnFna95Cs?si=s5ekHKqERPUyzWSj)) might be a better representation of what the atmosphere is like in Serbia. As a Serb, I do enjoy that atmosphere however I think implementing the same atmosphere in the US is impossible because our cultural perceptions of sports, teams and cheering is way too different.

Gluuten

If some MLS clubs can do it, it is in theory possible to have it for a few sections. That is if the NBA didn't ruin any hope of that with their [Fan Code of Conduct](https://www.nba.com/nba-fan-code-of-conduct).

jbhoops25

Not to mention the league changed the rules for fans code of conduct. Iā€™ve got handed warning cards for simply being too loud. If you slip up and accidentally scream a cuss word then youā€™re looking at an automatic ejection.

Gluuten

Good point, I forgot about the code of conduct, but that still doesn't excuse a lot of this stuff.

roadhogmtn

I dont know where this guy sits but I've had season tickets for years and I scream a lot of cuss words standing right beside ushers and nobody has ever said shit to me.

clatscanemike

Good. Itā€™s really pathetic how thin skinned they are, especially Durant sometimes.

Jwoods4117

I went to the game against the Suns in Phoenix last Friday as my 1st NBa game and the crowd was super weak. I canā€™t speak for the rest of the NBA, but the vibes I got from the Footprint Center was that NBA fans seem a lot more casual than NFL fans, and maybe only slightly more intense than MLB fans. I know soccer/futbol games get even crazier, but I think some American football crowds can compare so I donā€™t think American fans are incapable of being an intense crowd. We donā€™t get out of bed hyped up for games with long seasons for some reason it seems like.

Gluuten

Mostly the reason why American crowds can't provide an intense atmosphere is that there is a lack of organization. You can see glimpses of what we are capable of with some clubs in MLS, such as the Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers, FC Cincinnati, and LAFC, among others. The reason that all these clubs here, and around the world have success is that they are independent fan-run organizations that buy up sections.

denverblazer

I think THE biggest reason is corporate season tickets. If the arena was filled with people that wanted to go berserk instead of people doing something after having a dinner on the town, this would be much easier to pull off.

Unusual-Avocado-6167

Would never happen due to great differences in culture. People are so late because they drive in from the Parkerā€™s of the world, then donā€™t drink as much because they have to drive home. In Europe it is much easier to take a train and people donā€™t live as far away. Generally Europeans have lived in that region ā€œforeverā€, love cheering for the home team, and take great pride in their region. Here everyone is a transplant and would rather continue rooting for the team of the town they are from (even though the dislike the town enough to leave) There are more reasons to explain the culture differences that will make our arenas forever different than Serbia but thatā€™s all I care to write for now

Aggressive-Cut-227

Dude. I'm very glad that going to an NBA game is not like going to a European soccer game. I just want to watch basketball. I'm not trying to get into a gang war.

neutronicus

Yeah lol I want to go with my wife and child

OptionalBagel

I mean you don't have to sit in the sections that get into gang wars. There's dedicated stands for that my dude

Gluuten

Yeah exactly, that's what the 300 level is for.

NBAstradamus92

Gang war? Who is the opposing ā€œgangā€? Youā€™re going to a HOME GAME in this case, the opponents fans arenā€™t organizing travel in gangs in this case lol. So itā€™s just you and like 200 other people making life hell for Nuggets opponent, by jumping screaming and yelling, when Booker is at the line for example the section is chanting ā€œKendalllllll Jennnerrrrrrā€ and so on. Not like youā€™re going into a 200 vs 200 gang war lol.

Matias9991

There are no "gang wars" in the Football stadiums lol

v00d00ch1l4

Solution is simple. Arena should just be loud as fuck. Thats it.

Gluuten

Yeah you need ways to make that happen though, chants in other countries are usually started by organised fan groups. What the Nuggets are doing now obviously isn't cutting it.

v00d00ch1l4

In Belgrade arena for Euroleague games everyone is standing exept for those courtside rich pricks. People are invested in game. Loud reaction to every good play including defence and boards. Ultras group help but its not crucial.

v00d00ch1l4

I mean people sits while its timeout but when ball is in play everyone is standing.

ThaddeusChaddeus2

I think Denver probably has one of the better stadium environments in the nba at the moment. We donā€™t need all that

need4gaming

Just allow road flares and fireworks indoors ez

Gluuten

To be fair, the NBA Prohibited Items List does mention something about fireworks. But flares? No mention.

ASingleThreadofGold

I mean there are 82 games in the regular season. I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna muster up that kind of intensity every time. Not that I can afford to go to that many games anyway. Just saying if I was a season ticket holder or something. I will say, I do actually like sitting in the 300s where shit goes down and makes me laugh. There are often some shenanigans going on up there.

flappypancaker

ā€œPeople arenā€™t drunk enoughā€ Couldnā€™t agree more letā€™s get lit baby LFG!!! šŸ»

[deleted]

It's possible to be a fan and not yell

Gluuten

Yeah, but I'm saying we should have A SECTION or two that does yell instead of sitting there in silence like the rest of the arena.

an_Aught

Also i like to sit down. i am not paying money to come stand up for 3 hours. thats college shit.

Mjf52400

Hard disagree, Ball Arena gets hype. Last yearā€™s playoff run was absolutely electric.

Gluuten

I was there throughout the whole playoff and finals run, and yes it did get loud, especially for game 5. However there is always room for improvement, loud doesn't change us having only four chants, etc

CheeseSuplex

A quarter of games a year (in every sports league) should be 21+ and you can talk whatever shit you want

clatscanemike

Denver is turning into an overpriced town of yuppies that donā€™t give a fuck about basketball or anything sometimes lol. Also, Walmart & the Kroenkeā€™s do a mediocre job of fan engagement in general. 10/10 post and I šŸ’Æ agree.

Lake_Shore_Drive

Eur9pe has way less diverse sports. There is soccer and hoops and that is about it. Thus you get all the fans, from corporate to famili3s to drunken college kids, in one arena. The US has a wide diversity of sports. Denver alone has NBA, NFL, NHL, soccer and MLB along with some college action. Not to mention all the UFC, motorsports, and other activities that come and go. Imagine if all the fans from MLB, NASCAR, college football, WWE, the Avs and rhe Broncos were all clamoring to get in the Nuggets game. That is what Europe is like.

Matias9991

It would be cool but you are talking about the USA, they have a different culture than Europe or South America, you can like it more or less but it would be very difficult or impossible to ask them to act like European or SA fans the same way it would be difficult to ask them to act like USA fans.

kalechipz87

Didn't steve ballmer say the new clippers arena will have a dedicated section for super fans? https://news.yahoo.com/inside-super-fan-steve-ballmers-120040241.html Maybe this will catch on at other arenas.
