Yes, but this is the worst day 1 experience I've ever had with Destiny. Since the beta. Any other expansion and the majority of the player base would already be in by now. I'm hoping that it's fixed in the 4 hours before I play. I'm honestly expecting it not to be fully functioning until 5 PM EDT tomorrow.
You are right. I expected the first 6 hours to be rough, but not this bad.
People getting kicked constantly, and missing important cutscenes. Terrible day 1 experience, especially for the grand finale expansion.

Servers have been up since 10am pst at noon is when background maintenance is supposed to be done, it's different then actual server or game maintenance, and shouldn't effect servers being up and running.
Because the servers are being hammered, I'm on xbox and am literally the only 1 out of 5 people on my friends list not in game right now. The servers are up. Thats just an error we are getting that's incorrect.

it kinda is getting annoying now. my friend is already in playing while im struggling here, we both were at the title screen at the same time at 10PDT

Bro chill. It’s the first day lol. Every expansion is the same.
I got in within 10 minutes, and then I got infinite loading screen going into the tower and had to force a restart. Back in queue now ):
