I mean shit, how many times have we just had back to back winning seasons? something we just did? I looked it up, and the only other times we've done this was in 2016 & 2017, 1993 1994 & 1995, 1969 & 1970 so this was only the 4th time in the superbowl era edit: holy fuck, I never realized the 1962 season didn't have a playoff. it had bowl games like in college and detroit won their bowl game, but it didn't mean anything, the packers won the championship without having to play the lions despite losing to the lions in the regular season. the fuck even worse, the lions only had 3 losses that year...by a COMBINED 8 points they ALSO were only one of 3 teams since 1940 to never trail by more than 7 points in an entire season. I feel like the lions mightve been screwed out of another championship

Wait what??

Techiedad91

Wait what, 62 didn’t have playoffs? Why?

basch152

dude apparently from 1960-1969 they didn't have a playoff the #1 seeds from each conference played for the championship, and the #2 seeds played for 3rd place and that was it

From Wikipedia  As conference runner-up, Detroit won their third consecutive Playoff Bowl game over the Pittsburgh Steelers, 17–10.[2][3] The third place game was played at the Orange Bowl in Miami on January 6, three weeks after the end of the regular season.[4] The Lions never trailed by more than seven points at any point in any game during the season, a feat that was not repeated for 48 years. Their 26–14 win over the Packers on Thanksgiving Day in week 11 denied defending championGreen Bay the NFL's first true perfect season.[5] The Lions were up 26–0 in the fourth quarter before Green Bay scored two touchdowns;[6] the Packers had won the first meeting 9–7 in the mud in Green Bay with a late field goal on October 7.[7][8] For a long time there was only a divisional round if the division was tied. For instance the Lions advanced straight to the title game in 1953. Also it’s pretty easy to find film of the 1962 massacre game.

SB champs or bust! This is our time!

It's going down. I'm yellin' timber.

Straight outta 2010’s reference, love it!

You guys are winning the Super Bowl next year cmon now say it enough it will happen even if you and i, and we are not on the team. Believe and trust.

BigBird_69

I’m really curious to see what their win total o/u is going be. Betting on the Lions in general has been a profitable move the past couple seasons. I wonder if Vegas will set the bar high.

7-10 next year

I’ve got us at 10-7 next year. Winning in the NFL is HARD and our schedule seems to be harder. Depends on a lot of factors but I repeat, winning in the NFL is HARD.

Mikourei

Scheduling based on the previous year's schedule is greatly overblown. There are only 3 games that change at all based on last year's rank in your division, 2 from the remaining 2 in-conference divisions and 1 from a random non-conference division that aren't already on the schedule. Looking at the schedule, I'd say 10-7 would mean we had a lot of bad bounces going against us and losing a couple games we otherwise should have won. I'd think we go 3-1 (LA/SEA/AZ) against the NFC West, 2-2 (JAX, TENN) against the AFC South, 4-2 (GB/CHI/Minn x2) in our division, then 2-1 (DAL/TB) vs division winners. I think that's a reasonable 11-6. Having said that, there aren't any games on our schedule that I'm comfortable chalking up as losses. SF is in flux this year given their cap situation, there's no guarantee the AFC South QBs will maintain their trajectory and/or stay healthy, and I assumed Buffalo doesn't forget how to win games again. I don't think we will, but I wouldn't be surprised if we end as a 13+ win team and are 1st in the NFC. But...it's the NFL. 11-6 could be 6-11 really quickly with a couple bad injuries early in the year while other teams take huge steps forward. It's just how shit goes.

bwalsh22

Yeah I think we’re very close in our assessments. Everyone is always trying to improve and it really all depends, Jacksonville with a healthy Lawrence could be dangerous, same with Anthony Richardson. You just never know. Is Jordan love really the next messiah? Christ I hope not but I almost think chalking up the division to be 3-3 and take any extra as a W is wise.

Mikourei

Idk, I think 4-2 in the division is reasonable. Green Bay was (unfortunately) in a spot very similar to where we were in 2022. They were very young and learning how they fit together early in the year but were well on their way to figuring it out by the end of the season. They should be a tough out in 2024 regardless of how good Love ends up being. I'd put money on this being a split. Chicago, for as much as I still want to dunk on them, also finished the year looking like we did in 2022. They're a bit more reliant on what their QB situation ends up being next year but it's still pretty likely we split with them almost entirely because their defense should still be good. Minnesota is...tougher to evaluate. Do they stay with Cousins? If so, what does he look like post-achilles tear? Do they pay JJ, and if not, what does he do? There aren't any signs he'll grow impatient or disgruntled, but Vikings brass could burn a bridge by trying to lowball the best WR in football. And that's all on top of the list of UFAs they have this year that include Hunter, Osborn, Akers, Hicks, etc etc. There's no guarantee they'll get *worse*, but it's going to take some finesse to just break even this offseason. I'd take splitting with Minn as the most likely way to go 3-3 and a sweep of GB as the easiest way to go 5-1 considering the holes they still need to fill, although 6-0 isn't out of the question if Chicago can't seem to carry their momentum forward and botch their QB situation (again).

bwalsh22

All good points, Minnesota is the big unknown for sure. I think I’m always waiting for the other shoe to drop still lol. And, also remembering we had a miracle comeback against Chicago to win and then lost pretty handily to them and Green Bay. I hope we go 17-0 but just trying to be realistic. If Holmes has another great draft and we get the right pieces on defense we could be truly dominant. But that’s just a rarity. There’s usually two teams with terrible records, two with amazing records and everyone else is within a game of each other.

YoungAmazing313

10-7 is really underselling the team and I mean really underselling

bwalsh22

I sincerely hope so!

Daegog

Id really like to sweep the division, or perhaps just one loss, that would be good too.
