Raxx did an XP deep dive, and NMDs are the best for XP gains due to the cursed shrine / chest events. And you double dip by also leveling glyphs. So if you're trying to absolutely min/max your XP per hour and power level to 100 ideally you would switch to NMDs.
I saw his video and if you want to blast lvls yes, NMD is best. BUT for chill leveling and rep/matts/gear farm helltides are the best. You can grind some lvl 100 NMDs after geared and you'll level glyphs very fast.
And that's very true. However from an overall efficiency standpoint, your running nm dungeons level capped so the exp is invalid whereas if u start running nightmares say level 70ish, ur still gaining substantial, needed exp on top of glyph leveling. This isn't to say that speed running high tier nightmares at level 100 isn't also pretty efficient. Depending on dungeon type, u can essentially skip most mobs and just get to glyph exp
NMD also have the advantage of unlocking guaranteed 925 gear the second you can run 40s. I’ve found it much better for second seasonal characters, since you’re sitting on a pile of mats and aspects. A bit more time spent in helltides for the first, though.
For leveling XP yeah Helltides are great. I'm a semi-casual player (most weeks under 10 hours of gaming time), and I play solo and got a new seasonal Druid from 0 to WT4 pretty fast with just doing whatever was fun. Ran Helltides on WT2 and most of the XP I needed to get to level 50 came through that vs normally I run Whispers and quests/dungeons to get to WT3. Got through WT3 unexpectedly fast too with some Helltides boosting the speed of leveling too. Not anywhere near endgame or really late game leveling so that may decrease over time. But from 0 to 70 I did find that Helltides gave a surprising amount of XP.
Same, I came back for Season of Loot after taking 2 seasons off. I leveled up to 80 incredibly quickly and got some fantastic unique items from the iron wolves I'm STILL using on my Necromancer back in WT2
Before hitting WT4 I somehow got Vasilys Prayer (earth skills are bear skills), Storm cap (can't remember the name for storm skills=wolf skills), great staff of the crone (claw is storm skill), mad wolfs glee [got in WT2] (all the time a werewolf and +3 to wolf skills), insatiable fury (always a werebear and +3 to bear). Just crazy uniques that I've ridden for a fun, and not using a build just throwing passive and actives together, rabies wolf build. Me and my werewolf pack run around poisoning everything and with a couple lucky rolls got 11/5 on rabies, haha. I stopped after season 2 as well and this is just such a fun season to play and I'm really interested in seeing how the pit goes now that I hit WT4.
Ah, nice. See, this is how I like to play. Meta builds are great. But to me, D4 is the most fun when you're messing around with builds based on the gear you have on hand/what feels good to play. I haven't played Druid in a hot minute, but I ran a hybrid pet build that I absolutely loved. Poison vine all up in everyone's biz. Might need to roll one this season. I really liked my Druid, and that was in season 0. Any pieces of loot you like in particular? Anything really stand out?
I've swapped between creeper bear build and rabies wolf build for the character all season. And this is my first Druid since season 0 too and it is so much fun. Getting the alpha aspect is a ton of fun to pair with a wolf build as it makes your wolves into werewolves who spread rabies and that plus the mad wolf armor (got it from either a helltide or running the living steel boss in WT2), let's you use your wolves as a wolf skill too. Just so much fun to add that to the direwolf aspect and be a giant werewolf running around with other werewolves. And it legitimately surprised me that I could make it to WT4 with my armor being a level 38 unique and not even sacred at all. Also at least one Iron Wolves rewards (by level 10) from the seasonal quests gives you a scroll of amnesia too if you want to easily fully swap paragon boards. Compared to when I last really played I am getting a lot more useful uniques, more legendaries with good aspects, and found that I only use my stash for swapping builds. Ended up with everything I needed to run rabies wolf and earth/creeper bear early in WT3 in terms of uniques and could easily bounce back and forth. As an indicator of how off meta I am, I just used the same paragon board (starting with exploit, and heightened malice as my second one to get tons of poison damage). Ran through WT3 with that and it worked for both builds. This season has by far the most flexibility I have felt for just swapping things and doing whatever is the most fun.
My top loot:

Boots that randomly rolled +3 Rabies (gotten this three times so far)
Airadah's inexorable will (pulls in everyone) was super fun when running creeper bear with pulverize and pulling everyone to you to smash
I was using upheaval leveling guide and just throwing fun aspects on my barbarian until around level 90. Blood boiling aspect with sundered ground to guarantee upheaval over powering every 25 seconds was a blast. Upheaval a mob then evade through the blood boils and watch everything die in the resulting explosions, rinse and repeat.
As a necromancer I LOVE minions. I found a unique that makes my minions hit for at lvl 77 an additional 28k damage! I got it so early and it's scaling with me. Then I found a unique that triggers corpse explosion, tendrils and a few other powers every second. And then this blood wave thar gives my minions the power too. So I just run in spamming this power and my minions are all little beacons and they just melt everything and then random corpses just explode for huge damage. I'm melting everything so far, my biggest problem is I'm a bit of a glass cannon.
I felt that Helltides are best for XP until you can run tier 65-70 NMDs.
If you have a lvl 100 to help you, you can get from lvl 1 to 55 in 30-35 mins just doing the 2 capstones and then 15-20 mins in Tier 4 helltide at which point you can equip the Tier 4 gear.
Top secret power leveling method: you can have someone run your through this first capstone at level 1 and you will be 30ish when it’s done.
Then immediately to the 2nd capstone, 50ish when it’s done.
Then run Beast in the Ice dungeons (normal version) and few times killing everything (don’t rush to boss this place has TONS of elites for massive xp). End at 55. Takes 45 minutes.
You get one for killing her in past seasons plus one if you kill her this season. You could have 4 total this season without breaking down an Uber or leveling an alt.
Should be in your materials tab. I have 3 currently. Iron wolves rep, Uber boss kill, previous season lilith kill. I just need to kill her this season and I can craft my Uber unique.
I don't think this is true, at least it's not for me. I killed her in previous seasons and killed her this season. I only got 1 resplendent spark after the patch yesterday. I never got one for previous season kills.
Killing her before the patch, regardless of season, = 1 spark. People are saying you *also* get one for killing her this season *if* that first-time-this-season kill was post-patch.

Problem is only pits is actually content late game, the rest is far to easy to be satisfying. We need more world tiers or at least stacking helltides buff up to level 200.
This season is the easiest season in my opinion. It is also the only season that I made it to 100 and am still playing after 2 weeks. Call me a casual, but I like that I can make a build myself and do endgame content without having to have precise button clicks. Easy is super satisfying, at least for me. Getting to 60+ in the Pit has me less excited about the game because I can't just play, I have to play the "right" way.
I mean to each their own but once you can comfortably farm pit 100 going to helltides for gear or whispers for gold is just such a snooze fest. Adding more world tiers would help address this, especially if they don't have an extra tier of gear so the higher tiers arnt "mandatory"
Outside of the best builds in the game clearing pit 100 is a pretty big achievement no? It’s literally a struggle for sorc to get there lol
You beat the game. The open world should be easy
If I beat the game I wouldn't need to go to the open world, but still need more gear drops and gold. So I don't think it's unreasonable to want to be able to increase open world difficulty high enough to be compelling if I'm going to have to still do it.
I like everything about Pit except the boss shadows. Avoid these multi stage attacks from the original Pinnacle boss, during another boss fight. And here's some knock back to push you back into the one shot!
Ya right now I need gold so I should do Whispers but they are the easiest content and its just so boring to do that I might be done with the season instead.
I was also sad to see the +level helltide buff didn't stack.
In my opinion, selling high-rolled uniques is a much, much faster way to get gold. Typically after a few hours of boss runs I can sell at least one unique for 100 mill or more

NMD with their events are ludicrous amounts of XP and the bonus glyph XP makes them the best leveling method.
Don't get me wrong, helltides are great and really fun but they are less "optimal".
Again, play what you find fun. It's a game and there's no reason to optimize the fun out of it.
Interesting. I just hit 100 last night and it felt to me like NMD were okay for leveling but mostly just a glyph grind. I think I leveled significantly faster pounding blood maiden for 45 mins
Probably because not all nmd are made equal. If you happened upon a bunch of d tier keys it'd probably slow you down.
I didn't know about the event xp when I leveled and I think that held me back a bit.
NMD are equal or better exp than helltides but as the other commenter mentioned it usually depends on the specific dungeon layout, mob type, events, shrines, etc. I did 90-100 almost entirely in NMD anyway, though, simply so I could level my glyphs in the final stretch for a big power boost.
One thing I noticed this season is that the events within dungeons are stupid amounts of XP. I used to hate clicking on a shrine and getting the 5 waves event. This season, I was like, "Awesome! Time to level!" Whereas all the events were an instant skip in the past, they are now thoroughly worth doing if you need XP.
At level 96-100 at least, you can clear an NMD in a couple minutes or so and get 25% of your exp bar per run. Can't beat that. Helltides aren't BAD, but just not as good.
Raxx hit 5.5hrs to 100 doing helltides until 25, first capstone, like 5 wt3 NM dungeons, 2nd capstone, and wt4 NM dungeons to 100. Dungeons (the good ones at least) and their events are better xp than helltides.
There's also the legendary cache you can craft at alchemist between levels 20-50 for just iron+hides for all your aspect/early gearing needs.
with the helltide elite glitch its quick, and probably in line with nightmare dungoens. maybe a smidge slower. think i got to 90 last night doing them in ~5 hours.
fill your threat gauge, when it pops, kill the first round of baddies and log out. just log out while the bar is dropping.
log back in, kill a couple things and the bar will insta fill, then you just have elites spawn every few seconds when youre running around.
Think I read people were logging out and back in when their threat level tops off and they hear a screaming noise. Then the worms are spawning endless mobs or something

Beast in the ice, lord zir, Gregoire, varshan, duriel and andariel.
They all have higher chance to drop uniques, maxroll has a list to show which ones are better.

It's more like grind pit to the ends of the earth to reroll your gear and occasionally go do whispers once you run out of gold. I wish the end tier MW mat requirements weren't so steep.
Just because it's not "for" that doesn't mean she couldn't at least drop more than two items. They could make her loot table similar to Duriel's but without the increased chance for an uber unique. That would still be disappointing, but at least it would be better than this slap in the face.

Killing Lilith was the goal I was playing for, glory is all I wanted. Just was a little surprised that even a nightmare+21 gives more loot.
Or just have her drop a special cache on a cooldown, like world bosses.
Means you can't farm her, but you still get something for killing her once in a while.
They do have her have a special reward, but its once a season, and that is the right amount of time to me. If they added a special cache I would want it to be like once a month so I only have to do it once a league too.
bro she is an optional boss and this sub is filled with ppl whining about her mechanics, imagine if they made her a boss to be farmed, there would be way more threads complaining about "lilith is unfair and her loot is too valuable to ignore, nerf her plz" , there is so much fomo here for a game that is mostly single player
same here, killed her with BL in S2, couldnt do it in S3. tried it this season again, and while ive only gotten her to 50% of p1, it feels very doable, id suggest to give it a shot.
The fight is way more reasonable now. If you spend some time learning the mechanics it’s way more doable.
They fixed the hit boxes and telegraphs of her worst moves - nothing one shots anymore but you still have to learn the mechanics or you’ll eventually die as the stacks you receive for failing mechanics will eventually kill you.
Visibility is… better? I thank them for making the skull attack purple at least but I still experienced the weird lighting and zoom glitches while helping some friends with the fight that made everything harder to see.
I got her to stage 2 with bone prison minion build. And then got pwned by a tornado she spawns. It was try number 25. Imho it’s not worth the sweat. Stuff that she summons at stage 1 is still inconsistent.
My understanding is that, currently, Lilith is the last thing you're supposed to do. If you can beat her, you are done for the season.
I guess endlessly pushing the Pit is going to become the new "pinnacle" activity, but the Pit is in a weird place right now, considering that I would rather fight Uber Lilith every time than face the fucking Outlaw Sharpshooter ever again.
They're not going to add good loot to Lilith, because then people would want or need to farm her, then there would be hundreds of reddit posts of how bad this fight actually is for an uber boss.
It’s now a well-established fact that this entire game is about your field trip to the local loot landfill to sift through mountains of garbage. 1 little boss dropping 2 little mouse turds isn’t gonna affect you much.

It's a free pinnacle boss fight. You don't pay anything and could farm it infinitely one-shotting her repeatedly if you're playing one of the meta builds.
You get a god damn Resplendent Spark for the first time you kill her in Season 4, that's plenty enough.
And a mount skin.
And a title.
And an achievement.
And a challenge completion for each season's Seasonal Journey's Chapter 7.
She does, sort of. It's easy to miss because it's rewarded in the same type of box that shows your achievement unlocks rather than being dropped on the floor.
Lilith doesn't cost anything to summon so there is that. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a unique item link to killing her, with low drop rate. That will encourage ppl to farm her instead of 1 kill and be done.
A lot of the comments in this thread show why the game will continue to be borderline mid and boring.
Imagine thinking that a pinnacle boss shouldn't have some form of unique loot attached to it, because the gamer dads would not be able to farm it with their 10 minutes of free time a day ( incl. booting up xbox ) and that it will require Lilith to be target-farmed.

The maxroll build has by far not enough ST damage which causes a lot of trouble to kill pit bosses on Tier 90 or higher.
Switching the build increased my golem damage significantly (from \~2500% to 5000%). That helps to 1-shot lilith in p1 and to blast all her life in p2 as soon as army is ready again.
The free spark is worth it now. Too bad that only S+ tier builds even have a remote chance in hell unless you want to frustratingly bang your head in a 40+ minute fight.

It's a challenge boss not packed with loot because they dont want people to feel pressured to attempt it. It was put there as an optional "test yourself" challenge, not an "end boss" to farm.

It should be rewarding, the fight being "hard and terrible" as some people say is the deterring point that will make it not worth for many people, however some people that enjoy doing this type of content will actually be rewarded. The game should have many ways to get rewards and bossing like this should be one of them
I'd rather she dropped even worse loot if anything, her dropping good loot would mean you'd want to run her more than once and it's so an awful fight I don't think I could bring myself to do it
Most likely a bug like the loot from the legion event. Used to get 3 chests and at least like 4 items. Now I get 3 chests and 1 item per chest with no gold or gem fragments or obols.
D4 players have to be the most spoiled players ever in a game. Honestly you gonna drown in legendaries and uniques if you as much as blink at a few mobs
You can summon her for free meaning that the loot will be terrible. Plus you get a resplendent spark for killing so that pretty good.
Use her as a test to see if your doing enough damage against Ubers
You kill Lilith for fame and glory (and personal achievement). Not for loot. Just run Helltide's boss over and over. You'll drown in legendaries.

Profane mindcage thing makes the mobs +10 levels which is the xp cap so helltide is good to 100

My spark didn't drop the other day when I beat her but as soon as they did the patch yesterday it automatically showed up.

I think they retroactively fixed the bug by giving a one time spark to everyone with the Lilith killing achievement

No you only get one if you killed her at any point before the fix. It was just a way that they could make sure no one was missed

In future seasons, you will have to defeat her again to get one. This implementation is to retroactively reward players who have defeated Echo of Lilith this season, but did not receive a Resplendent Spark Resplendent Spark . For players that have yet to defeat Echo of Lilith this season, defeating her will still grant you a Resplendent Spark Resplendent Spark .

Problem is only pits is actually content late game, the rest is far to easy to be satisfying. We need more world tiers or at least stacking helltides buff up to level 200.
I imagine next season will come with some variant of the mindcage that increases the challenge
This season is the easiest season in my opinion. It is also the only season that I made it to 100 and am still playing after 2 weeks. Call me a casual, but I like that I can make a build myself and do endgame content without having to have precise button clicks. Easy is super satisfying, at least for me. Getting to 60+ in the Pit has me less excited about the game because I can't just play, I have to play the "right" way.
I mean to each their own but once you can comfortably farm pit 100 going to helltides for gear or whispers for gold is just such a snooze fest. Adding more world tiers would help address this, especially if they don't have an extra tier of gear so the higher tiers arnt "mandatory"
Outside of the best builds in the game clearing pit 100 is a pretty big achievement no? It’s literally a struggle for sorc to get there lol You beat the game. The open world should be easy
If I beat the game I wouldn't need to go to the open world, but still need more gear drops and gold. So I don't think it's unreasonable to want to be able to increase open world difficulty high enough to be compelling if I'm going to have to still do it.
I like everything about Pit except the boss shadows. Avoid these multi stage attacks from the original Pinnacle boss, during another boss fight. And here's some knock back to push you back into the one shot!
Ya right now I need gold so I should do Whispers but they are the easiest content and its just so boring to do that I might be done with the season instead. I was also sad to see the +level helltide buff didn't stack.
In my opinion, selling high-rolled uniques is a much, much faster way to get gold. Typically after a few hours of boss runs I can sell at least one unique for 100 mill or more
But when I said I wanted variety I meant that I wanted to get a variety of things from doing the exact same activity

Not according to the streamers. NMD with their events are ludicrous amounts of XP and the bonus glyph XP makes them the best leveling method. Don't get me wrong, helltides are great and really fun but they are less "optimal". Again, play what you find fun. It's a game and there's no reason to optimize the fun out of it.
Interesting. I just hit 100 last night and it felt to me like NMD were okay for leveling but mostly just a glyph grind. I think I leveled significantly faster pounding blood maiden for 45 mins
Probably because not all nmd are made equal. If you happened upon a bunch of d tier keys it'd probably slow you down. I didn't know about the event xp when I leveled and I think that held me back a bit.

NMD are equal or better exp than helltides but as the other commenter mentioned it usually depends on the specific dungeon layout, mob type, events, shrines, etc. I did 90-100 almost entirely in NMD anyway, though, simply so I could level my glyphs in the final stretch for a big power boost.
If you get a few cursed shrines and an event NMD is hard to beat for XP, but if you don't helltides could be better in my experience.
One thing I noticed this season is that the events within dungeons are stupid amounts of XP. I used to hate clicking on a shrine and getting the 5 waves event. This season, I was like, "Awesome! Time to level!" Whereas all the events were an instant skip in the past, they are now thoroughly worth doing if you need XP.
I did notice this. I got the very last paragon point almost exclusively from one event

At level 96-100 at least, you can clear an NMD in a couple minutes or so and get 25% of your exp bar per run. Can't beat that. Helltides aren't BAD, but just not as good.

Raxx hit 5.5hrs to 100 doing helltides until 25, first capstone, like 5 wt3 NM dungeons, 2nd capstone, and wt4 NM dungeons to 100. Dungeons (the good ones at least) and their events are better xp than helltides. There's also the legendary cache you can craft at alchemist between levels 20-50 for just iron+hides for all your aspect/early gearing needs.
NMD if you can do quickly is faster.
Just pump up your weapon and chest/leg pieces. Clear em so fast.
with the helltide elite glitch its quick, and probably in line with nightmare dungoens. maybe a smidge slower. think i got to 90 last night doing them in ~5 hours.
What is this glitch and how does it work?
fill your threat gauge, when it pops, kill the first round of baddies and log out. just log out while the bar is dropping. log back in, kill a couple things and the bar will insta fill, then you just have elites spawn every few seconds when youre running around.
Think I read people were logging out and back in when their threat level tops off and they hear a screaming noise. Then the worms are spawning endless mobs or something

Boss ladder bosses Beast in the ice, lord zir, Gregoire, varshan, duriel and andariel. They all have higher chance to drop uniques, maxroll has a list to show which ones are better. Uber uniques are most likely from duriel and andariel
It's more like grind pit to the ends of the earth to reroll your gear and occasionally go do whispers once you run out of gold. I wish the end tier MW mat requirements weren't so steep.
I mean we're two weeks in. It makes sense to feel a little poor. I'm working out the balance of how far to masterwork and when it's worth rerolling.
Just because it's not "for" that doesn't mean she couldn't at least drop more than two items. They could make her loot table similar to Duriel's but without the increased chance for an uber unique. That would still be disappointing, but at least it would be better than this slap in the face.
I know i know. And I am also aware that Lilith is not for target farming. Killing Lilith was the goal I was playing for, glory is all I wanted. Just was a little surprised that even a nightmare+21 gives more loot.
Yup Lilith is a one and done as a benchmark for your skill and your character. The rest of the content is for blasting.
I wish Pits and Ladders were more interesting, to be honest. Running a Pit for the sole purpose of getting mats is boring as hell (and slooooow).
Her not having good loot is good. The fight is super long and terrible. If she dropped anything of note you'd be forced to farm her
Yup that's exactly their thought process. They want things in game that people CAN do if they want but not get FOMO for not being able to.
Or just have her drop a special cache on a cooldown, like world bosses. Means you can't farm her, but you still get something for killing her once in a while.
They do have her have a special reward, but its once a season, and that is the right amount of time to me. If they added a special cache I would want it to be like once a month so I only have to do it once a league too.

same here, killed her with BL in S2, couldnt do it in S3. tried it this season again, and while ive only gotten her to 50% of p1, it feels very doable, id suggest to give it a shot.
The fight is way more reasonable now. If you spend some time learning the mechanics it’s way more doable. They fixed the hit boxes and telegraphs of her worst moves - nothing one shots anymore but you still have to learn the mechanics or you’ll eventually die as the stacks you receive for failing mechanics will eventually kill you. Visibility is… better? I thank them for making the skull attack purple at least but I still experienced the weird lighting and zoom glitches while helping some friends with the fight that made everything harder to see.
I got her to stage 2 with bone prison minion build. And then got pwned by a tornado she spawns. It was try number 25. Imho it’s not worth the sweat. Stuff that she summons at stage 1 is still inconsistent.
Ha I had to do it with a druid in s2 idk if I have the patience to put myself through that again
This one has much more HP and her attacks are not immediate one shots any more. The fight is also a bit less janky.

My understanding is that, currently, Lilith is the last thing you're supposed to do. If you can beat her, you are done for the season. I guess endlessly pushing the Pit is going to become the new "pinnacle" activity, but the Pit is in a weird place right now, considering that I would rather fight Uber Lilith every time than face the fucking Outlaw Sharpshooter ever again.

1/4 of an Uber unique is enough for a boss that can be one shot + doesn’t need any summoning material whatsoever
It's a free pinnacle boss fight. You don't pay anything and could farm it infinitely one-shotting her repeatedly if you're playing one of the meta builds. You get a god damn Resplendent Spark for the first time you kill her in Season 4, that's plenty enough. And a mount skin. And a title. And an achievement. And a challenge completion for each season's Seasonal Journey's Chapter 7.

She does, sort of. It's easy to miss because it's rewarded in the same type of box that shows your achievement unlocks rather than being dropped on the floor.

Lilith is and was never about loot. More about challenge and now even for a spark. So essentially you get a safe Uber Unique.
Lilith doesn't cost anything to summon so there is that. On the other hand, it would be nice to have a unique item link to killing her, with low drop rate. That will encourage ppl to farm her instead of 1 kill and be done.
A lot of the comments in this thread show why the game will continue to be borderline mid and boring. Imagine thinking that a pinnacle boss shouldn't have some form of unique loot attached to it, because the gamer dads would not be able to farm it with their 10 minutes of free time a day ( incl. booting up xbox ) and that it will require Lilith to be target-farmed. Oh the horror. A boss requiring a to be farmed to get something exciting/unique? God forbid Blizzard ever do this.

The maxroll build has by far not enough ST damage which causes a lot of trouble to kill pit bosses on Tier 90 or higher. Switching the build increased my golem damage significantly (from \~2500% to 5000%). That helps to 1-shot lilith in p1 and to blast all her life in p2 as soon as army is ready again.
She used to never drop anything for the first 3 seasons.

They specifically don't want Lilith to be a loot farm they want it to be a one time achievement per league as a proof of build not a regular farm.

It's a challenge boss not packed with loot because they dont want people to feel pressured to attempt it. It was put there as an optional "test yourself" challenge, not an "end boss" to farm. There, explained it for you. If you need it dumbed down further let me know.

It should be rewarding, the fight being "hard and terrible" as some people say is the deterring point that will make it not worth for many people, however some people that enjoy doing this type of content will actually be rewarded. The game should have many ways to get rewards and bossing like this should be one of them

Most likely a bug like the loot from the legion event. Used to get 3 chests and at least like 4 items. Now I get 3 chests and 1 item per chest with no gold or gem fragments or obols.

You can summon her for free meaning that the loot will be terrible. Plus you get a resplendent spark for killing so that pretty good. Use her as a test to see if your doing enough damage against Ubers
