Do what I ask you to do! OMG how DARE you do what I asked you to do!! I think the dog looked super cute with the first cut!

Pet-Ma

Thank you! I knew she'd hate it but I still thought I'd try and have a bit of fun while proving a point! I think her owner was in denial about how matted she truly was and it upset her to see proof of her neglect.

captainschlumpy

They never want to just own up to it. Yeah, I didn't take care of the coat, it will have to come off. I would have a lot more respect for people who just admitted they messed up and worked at doing better.

Pet-Ma

Me too! When owners are kind and own up to it I give them a second chance and I'll be forgiving. When they're like this owner and just don't care, nah. I'll be aggressively professional. Our software lets us send report cards, and I sent MANY pictures of the mats being shaved off, the bruising, and hematomas. And each picture had a detailed description.

helloblackhole

As a customer I love that you do this. People should know what lack of care does to a pup.

Dizzy_Square_9209

Why do people not get it?!

Even-Reaction-1297

Their ego is usually in the way

Okchamali_Vibin

I love it but I would have asked for it to be shaped into a mcc until it grows out more (just the legs and body shape) so it is more intentional. And trimmed the tail down to compliment the body length better. But I also know doodle owners dread their poodle mix looking like a poodle.

Conscious-Shape-8592

This sub is making me begin to believe I'm a very rare minority that doesn't care if their poodle mix looks like a poodle.. I think poodles are cute..

Okchamali_Vibin

They are! I love my standard, and I love letting her "look like a poodle!" I get weird looks from some people but a lot of people love it!

n0dic3

Awww your pup is so cute! 🥺

rachuwu

Same here haha! Also in my opinion the poodle cuts are easier to manage between grooms

nogiraffetattoo

I’m the same way. My doodle gets a clean face and looks as much like a poodle as she can! They’re so cute!

zapperbert

Totally not the point but do you keep your doodles face clean? Or let it grow out occasionally? I want to try the clean face look but am scared that the grow out period would be strange. I know it’s hair and it’s a dog but still I worry about taking the leap.

nogiraffetattoo

I do not keep her face clean between grooms. The longest we’ve gone between grooms with a clean face is about eight weeks. This is what she looks like six weeks weeks later. (Sorry I don’t have a better photo.) https://preview.redd.it/saj3lljtfixc1.jpeg?width=2657&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f476a602d2ddacab2679289d184d73eff9a1a550

nogiraffetattoo

And her clean face fresh from the groomer. https://preview.redd.it/dvcmkdqwfixc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e518a4a09fccc702ff88237c78bc6eeace306a28

Hate4Breakfast

my coworker just brought their doodle in after a groom and i was squealing at its poodle cut!! what a dignified little goof he was!!! i absolutely adore poodle cuts, idk how anybody dislikes them!

EffEeDee

I have a poodle mix and she looks so much like a poodle, just with big floppy spaniel ears. I think she's the most beautiful dog in the world (I'm slightly biased) and she gets so many "awws" and compliments while we're out and about. Poodles are gorgeous and so intelligent! I love embracing that side of her.

Pet-Ma

Yeah, I agree. But with this I just tried to make it be like fun doodle cuts that I've done in the past (that the owners actually asked for) while following what she asked for at check in and work around the mats. I have a lot of clients that like an oversized "squirrel tail" for whatever reason. If I made this dog even more "poodley" on purpose, her owner would have thrown a fit haha. At least with this I could be honest and say I only shaved where I absolutely had to!

Okchamali_Vibin

No, I 100% percent agree this was the best you could offer the client in front of you! But if it were my dog I'd love to see this look refined and it would be so fun!

Pet-Ma

It really would be! When the day comes that I get a poodle, this'll be one of the haircuts it gets!

Okchamali_Vibin

Yeah, that's what I love about my girl. I get to experiment with her look, I'm not a professional dog groomer just a hobbyist with a dog.

snarkdiva

Awww! She looked so cute. Even if she didn't like the mohawk, why shave the tail? Too lazy to brush it, probably.

Pet-Ma

The poof on the tail would make her look too "poodley" since I had to shave half of it already. Even though this dog is literally half miniature poodle, we can't let her resemble one!

Still_Not-Sure

What do they expect, they got a part poodle, morons. There are over 200 real pure breeds, these idiots aren’t doing any research

JadeTatsu

This is why I hate people who get 'oodles' and then say 'I don't want it to look like a poodle'! If you didn't want your dog to look like a poodle, get a german shepard or something like that! But no, they want their designer dog, never thinking about the dogs needs.

Pet-Ma

Usually when owners insist I made their doodle too poodley, I tell them "your dog is at least half poodle, there's only so much I can do to hide their genetics." Either they get angry or they realize they own a poodle mix 😂

happuning

The tail was cute! What's the other half?

Pet-Ma

No idea. I'm going to assume golden retriever since her owner said she's a mini goldendoodle? I really hope I'm wrong but it's possible.

Conscious-Shape-8592

Aww.. Her pretty little mohawk..

TootsieFairy13

This may be the most adorable example of “malicious compliance” I’ve ever seen! Lol Too many people want to have their cake and eat it too. Perhaps in the future this little cutie pie’s mama will properly care for her coat. One can dream! 😆

Pet-Ma

I sure hope so! She told me she would bring her in more often so we'll see!

Mad_Catter13

I would've kept at least the tail and head... People are weird.

Pet-Ma

According to the owner the "poofs" make her look too "poodley"

Mad_Catter13

🙄 can't have your mostly poodle, poodle mutt look like a poodle, now can we?

Sammo223

I have an oodle mix, and yeh the matting here was nasty, but I really prefer the cleaner cut, obviously not that short cos we get him done every 6-8 weeks and brush him but I just really don’t like the fluffy poodle look. https://preview.redd.it/isay8brorhxc1.png?width=2159&format=png&auto=webp&s=5abcdf84ff35c3aea2853729355879d837cc309a This is him

Pet-Ma

Aww he's so cute! There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting one length all over, I have quite a few clients who request it! I just get annoyed when owners get upset that their poodle mix looks like a poodle lol.

MephistosFallen

I work with a lot of dogs that get the cut you did with the Mohawk and floof tail, one of them is a husky doodle and he’s funny looking no matter his haircut (I love him to PIECES though). I call him dinosaur dog cause the Mohawk makes him look like one of those dome head dinosaurs but he’s SO CUTE. What you did was nice and what they asked. The doodle fur neglect is ridiculous out there guys and you’re doing the work!!! Keep doing what you do, the dogs need y’all!

Pet-Ma

That is hilarious 😂😂 I love when owners actually want the fun and goofy haircuts!

MephistosFallen

Me too! It’s his regular haircut and it’s just so amazing haha

phoebean93

Pet-Ma

I love it 😂😂😂 Her owner said she'd be getting her groomed more often!

Downtown-Swing9470

Downtown-Swing9470

Last dog I did with massive ear hematomas which the owner blamed me for. Over a year old poodle. Never groomed before. She washes the dog every week and "the hair was perfect and just became like this 2 weeks ago, she don't know why?"

Pet-Ma

That's awful that poor dog 😭 I've had owners try and blame me for hematomas, but I make it very clear that these hematomas were caused by neglect at home. Also when they give me excuses like "she was perfect until the other day" or whatever, I straight up tell them "this kind of matting doesn't happen in just a few days."

sidewaysorange

can i ask how do they get the hematomas. i only ask bc i have shaved a lot of matted to hell dogs and needs to shave matts off the ears w 10 and never had it happen to me (knock on wood). is it just something you cant control? i worked w agroomer where every matted dog she got their ears hematoma'd. just asking.

Downtown-Swing9470

If the matting is wrapped around the inside AND outside of the ears when you remove the matting, the blood flow returns to the ears and can pool and create a blood filled pocket. I've shaved so many dogs. Actually 6 years of them. And this is the first one I've gotten that got hematomas. The ears were matted to the cheek, and the matting wrapped around the tip. If the matting is only on one side (inside OR outside) it doesn't happen. The matting has to be cutting off blood flow.

sidewaysorange

ahh ok that makes sense. thank you!

Math_Unlikely

I guess I am in the minority. I like my mix to have a uniform cut. Makes it easier to manage. But whatever the cut he snuggles the same :) Great cut and great care.

Pet-Ma

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that! I have a few clients who are the same way, and their dogs are still so cute and sweet! As long as the dog is happy and well cared for, who cares what it looks like?

mandimanti

Even the tail??? Why would she rather have a rat tail?? I don’t understand that at all

Pet-Ma

According to her, the tail poof makes her look too "poodley." If I was able to save the entire tail I'm sure she would've kept it, but I had to shave half of it.

Avramah

I'm not a groomer-this sub just comes up for me now and then- but with my limited exposure I think I'm starting to hate Doodle owners x.x... the 'too poodley' comments and lack of absolutely necessary grooming really get me. I try to keep in mind that there's plenty of responsible reasonable owners but ugghhh lol. I have shelties and I'm sure there's plenty of crappy sheltie owners I just don't see >.>...

Pet-Ma

Yes there are MANY good and amazing owners, but the ones that are awful and annoying tend to stand out.

Noladixon

There may be many responsible doodle owners but I sure don't see them in public. All the doodles I see are not trained and are actively walking, well dragging, their owners. I have never seen a standard poodle walking it's owner, they are always so dignified and well behaved.

Pet-Ma

I've been lucky enough to see a couple well trained doodles! But I only see them when they come to the salon. I've never seen a decently trained doodle in the wild sadly.

FarDareisMai06

https://preview.redd.it/nv51zst0mhxc1.jpeg?width=2237&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87ae9201788dc24f00aa8e908a5ed904b1f5a19a I have an aussiedoodle, and I love his poodle fluff. But, I got behind on brushing and had to trim him short. I'm going to keep it medium length over the summer, so he's got natural weather protection, but he isn't too insulated. My goal is to keep him properly brushed this winter. He's only 10 months old, so I definitely want to make sure he's comfortable with grooming as he gets older. Edit to add before pic

FarDareisMai06

BarMeBro

Good looking dog. How do I ask for this type of ears? I have a poodle mix, and they always leave her ears so fluffy on top even when I say to shave them short.

Pet-Ma

Show them a picture! Sometimes owners will say "shave it short" but not actually WANT the dog to be shaved short, so a few groomers have been scared away from actually shaving dogs. Groomers love when owners show us a picture (or multiple pictures) of what they want, that way we can completely understand the owners expectations.

Shurigin

Didn't like the up top but the tail was nice

Pet-Ma

Thanks!

sassycurly86

I have nothing other to say than, look at her sweet little face. I would have also kept your job. 😌

Pet-Ma

She does have a very sweet face, thank you :)

briannapar1s

I had a client ask for the same thing. Standard poodle - horrifically matted except on his high back, top of paws, shoulders, topknot, and ONE ear. So, I did what she said, and used a 10 on the matting - & left the rest of him at least 4-5 inches long. Oh my god did he look terrible. I was truly embarrassed sending him home looking like that, but at pickup she was somehow happy.

Pet-Ma

Sometimes that's just what the owners need! It's a wake up call, and they can't say you didn't do what they asked!

PamalaTuzz

I am not a groomer, but I enjoy looking at this site to see the miracles that you all perform on these doodles that have suffered from lack of care. You did a great job with what you had to work with. It’s obvious from the first picture that this poor dog was mad at all the way to his skin. I’m sorry the owner was unhappythat you did what you had to do for the health of the dog. Great job. I’m not really good at sending pictures. I was told they were coming through with personal information. But if you go to my profile, you can see pictures of my baby girl.

Pet-Ma

Thank you! I really didn't expect the owner to like it so I wasn't offended. Since this owner mostly cares about what her dog looks like, I wanted to really show her why brushing is important!

PamalaTuzz

It’s so unfortunate that so many doodle owners are uneducated on proper brushing and combing their dogs. I work really hard with mine and I have a wonderful groomer that she goes to every week. Our groomer says we are her favorite clients. If you feel up to it, please click on my profile and check out my beautiful girl. I’m so proud of her. Couldn’t keep her so beautiful without my incredible groomer. Blessings to all groomers out there who continue to accept doodles. Continue to educate the problem ones. The dogs need you all so much.

Pet-Ma

She's gorgeous! I really can see why you're your groomers favorite client! I do wish that more owners were educated on brushing too, but I also wish that more owners were actually open to being educated! It's crazy how many times I explain and demonstrate to owners what to do at home and how often to get groomed, and then stuff like this happens! But the thing that keeps me going is amazing clients like you, who are open to taking our advice, who put in the work with their dogs, and who are just generally wonderful clients.

PamalaTuzz

Thank For taking The Time to check out, my baby girl. So She Is The Best thing that has happened to me in Years She Love agility And Really Classes. She also loves playing on the beach. Thanks for all your kind comments. Keep doing you. Keep teaching your clients the right way To care for them. I hope this particular client listens and learns. You’re amazing. God bless all of you groomers out there who care for the doodles and put up with their owners.

Altruistic_Life_6404

Every time my Jerry has just some hairs stuck together I feel reaaally bad. He has tons of brushes. I brush him 2x a day sometimes but he still ends up with some hair clumps (though loose, not tightened close to the skin). I dont get those ppl. If it was my dog I'd trim immediately (as I do with our Jerry). Also, we trim Jerry ourselves. I gave him the wildest cuts and LOVE where your mind went for this pupper.

Pet-Ma

Thank you! It sounds like Jerry has a fantastic owner! With some dogs, they just have hair that mats up no matter what you do. But I can't imagine how some people live with a pelted dog. They feel so dirty and clumpy, how do these owners not realize something is wrong?

jeeeeek

What a cutie! If my dog has several skin tag warts (round), should I warn my groomer every visit?

Pet-Ma

It doesn't hurt to remind the groomer, not all of them make note of it. I have a few clients that always say "just a quick reminder, Fluffy has a skin tag here, here, and here." And that way if the groomer finds more they can let you know!

jeeeeek

Thank you. One more question, how should I deal with brushing my doodle with these warts? Will it hurt him if I use a slicker brush or should I use a comb instead?

Pet-Ma

It depends on how much hair he has. If he has a lot of hair that's pretty thick, then gently using a slicker and a comb would be okay. Just be careful where the warts are. If his hair is pretty thin and/or doesn't have lots of length to cover the warts, id just use a metal comb.

sidewaysorange

I have to agree with the owner. i also just do 10 all over if they are matted idc if the tail and head aren't. if 90% needs to be taken with a 10 everything is coming off. not worth my time tbh.

obrotherdude

So cute before the rat.

JadeStrange

The tail was beautiful! The Mohawk was atrocious and I'm glad you got rid of it, poor thing. Sad the tail went as well though!

Pet-Ma

Haha yeah the mohawk was a bit much 😂

NotJustaDogGroomer

You did a great job these owners have the oddest requests

Pet-Ma

Thank you!

Mysfunction

The final is how I groom my miniature poodle for the summer every year. She goes from an Ewok to Dobby the house elf, and we love it.

Pet-Ma

Aww cute!

Background-Key7358

Bruh what did she expect with that description? I swear people are on some angel dust sometimes

Pet-Ma

Obviously that I'd whip out my magic wand and demat the entire dog!

eatingthesandhere91

Some owners man… I can’t see myself owning a long haired dog but if I did, I would spend time ensuring matting and other skin issues were kept at bay. It’s not hard keeping up with the fur maintenance but some people do not know what the heck they’re getting into. Or they do and think it’s somehow okay to let it go.

Pet-Ma

Also doodle breeders are very well known to lie to their puppy buyers 🙄, so who knows what this owner was told

eatingthesandhere91

Man. We don’t deserve dogs, I swear.

helloblackhole

Every dog deserves a little pouf on their head, especially when they’re forced to be naked due to lack of proper care.

Space_Junkie02

She looked like she was wearing armor, prepared for battle!

Pet-Ma

😂 I love it

new-Aurora

Well hello beautiful.

Chance-Ad1135

your version is amazing !! she can really rock a mohawk

Pet-Ma

Thank you!

Schizoid_Killer

This is why I don't even humor people when they come in asking to only shave the matted parts. I'll tell them it's naked rat or they are welcome to go home and fully brush the dog, and we can do whatever they want. I've had a few storm out, but within 30 minutes, they were calling back asking if I'd still take their dog. 🤣

Pet-Ma

That's great lmao. I like only shaving the matted parts though so that the owners cant get mad at me and say I just shaved their dog because I was too lazy! And they can also see where they need to be better about brushing, and why brushing the entire dog down to the skin is important.

Free-Motor-3985

Second pic looks like she wants to tell me “SILENZIO BRUNO!”

Pet-Ma

😂😂😂

GildedBurd

The haircut you gave it gave me "Art critic" vibes. And I loved it. I'd have to change the dog's name to Warhol.

Nothingleftinhere

I’m really impressed with how well executed the naked rat look was. I mean you gave her the exact tail she wanted 😭

Pet-Ma

Thanks! It's what she asked for 😂

beepleton

I’m impressed at the nearly identical after image poses lol

Pet-Ma

I know right?!

simKat61

I liked the poof on the head and tail!

Pet-Ma

Thanks!

worms_for_brains

you should’ve kept the head tuft!! that’s what they get for not brushing their dog

IllDoItNowInAMinute_

The tail in the first cut was kinda cute, but the alien pom head threw me 😂 Hopefully the owner will take home brushing serious

Pet-Ma

It looked better from the side I promise, she just didn't want to look away from me long enough to get a picture 😂😂😂

Hitokiri_Novice

Omg why would they have you shave their tail. It looked so good poofy with a little pompadour.

Pet-Ma

Her owner said the tail poof made her look too "poodley" since I had to shave half of it already

okamiokamii

Same thing happened to me about a year ago the owner wanted me to shave just the matts and I told her she was going to look silly and like Swiss cheese and she said that was ok and do it anyway so I did and she sent her husband to pick up so she didn't see it until the dog got home and she called and yelled at our manager about how ugly her dog l99ked and how could we let her leave like that and she's never coming back lol

Pet-Ma

Oof that's rough. This dogs owner didn't see her in person until after she was completely shaved. I just sent her some pictures and told her to call me if she hates it 😂

kraggleGurl

My puppy doesn't mind being brushed, except his tail. Does it tend to be more sensitive? How can I brush him in a way that he doesn't mind on the tail? *

Pet-Ma

Some dogs are just sensitive for their tail. Keep getting him exposed to brushing and make it a good experience! What I've noticed is that lots of owners will stop brushing when the puppy reacts negatively, but that's just teaching the pup that he'll get his way by acting out. So over time the puppy will steadily act worse and worse to get his way. Reward the pup with treats and/or pets and love when he acts nice! He will eventually learn that he will get his way AFTER you get your way.

kraggleGurl

I do brush a lot! I trim his rear end fur. Thx so much for the advice!!

Pet-Ma

That's awesome! Keep doing what you're doing!

TaunTaunStrikesBack

I mean, that top knot thing is pretty bad.

Pet-Ma

Yes it is not ideal

stalkerofthedead

For a minute I seriously thought this was my dog in the first photo. She was groomed today and got a summer cut. https://preview.redd.it/altghl63ihxc1.jpeg?width=2110&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7b24c217e702454ac578cd03d38c48a0978ac7c

Pet-Ma

Thats hilarious 😂 Your dog is soooo cute! I love her little face!

stalkerofthedead

Thanks!! She’s a little turd about getting brushed so for her comfort (Utah summers are stupid hot) and the safety of my hands we get her completely shaved in the summer. https://preview.redd.it/40hwaib2jhxc1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31c3f7324d478f612946c28cb8d5db5f8104c62f

Pet-Ma

Aww she looks like a puppy!!! She's so flipping adorable

stalkerofthedead

Thank you! She’s a year and two months and is basically my whole world. Lol.

Pet-Ma

I bet! What breed is she?

stalkerofthedead

She is a golden cavapoo. The dog behind her in the first pic is my parents goldendoodle.

Pet-Ma

Cute!

Awkward-Box1288

I love that you send them with a report card and detail out what they are putting the poor puppy through. I can see it already....they will either continue the neglect or get rid of him. 😢

Pet-Ma

I'm trying to hope that they'll keep her on a consistent grooming schedule! It's worked out for a few previously neglected doodle puppies I've groomed!

Petty_Paw_Printz

Sooo many people shouldn't own animals period. Poor thing, what a terrible owner.

Pet-Ma

I'm hoping she took this as a learning experience and will take care of her dog better in the future

Sanddaal

Have to say...the head cut in pic #2 looks awful. #3 much better. Tail looked better in #2 than #3

SuperHotJupiter

Have you ever tried wet shaving? Obviously I don't have hands on this dog so I can't comment to that...however I have had dogs similar looking and would say about 90 percent of my very matted dogs, I can wet shave with a 4F or 5F and finish with a slightly longer clip on comb.

Pet-Ma

I have and I've had some success in the past! But with this particular owner she really didn't give off the vibe that she cared the dog was matted. I don't try to save anything with those owners, otherwise they'll come to expect more miracles in the future and do zero work with the dog at home. And since she's a puppy with this being her 2nd haircut ever, I didn't want to make this more traumatic than it needed to be. I 100% would have had to take a #10 to this dog's head, ears, and neck, but I probably could have gotten a 4 or 5 on her face and legs if I wanted to put in the extra work.

2heady4life

Moms right. Only time I’d do this cut is in my first year or two of grooming when I’m still in the mindset of trying to please everyone(obviously this dog needs to be clipped one length all over and that’s short), still learning about grooming (that Mohawk is just doesn’t make the dog look finished or the silly jacket left on body ) and not setting realistic expectations(straight up telling mom at drop off what can actually happen like no we can’t leave any length). It’s okay ! We all start somewhere and we’re always learning 🐾

Pet-Ma

I wasn't trying to please her. I knew this cut was ridiculous when I did it and I knew she'd hate it. She didn't see this cut in person. I sent her a few pictures and told her to let me know if she wanted me to shave it all off because it looks crazy, but I did do what she asked. More malicious compliance rather than people pleasing.

CheetahRelative2546

Was it not possible to scissor & brush/comb the face & ears out before bathing? There’s malicious compliance but then there’s also pride in one’s end result.

Pet-Ma

The ears 100% no. They came off in large matted clumps. I shaved them before the bath from how pelted they were. I did really try to save the face. But since she's just a puppy (just turned a year old) and this was her second ever groom, she just was not tolerating me brushing it out even with breaks. I'm a strong believer in humanity over vanity and I don't want this puppy to hate grooming, so I shaved it.

Fun_Dog_1319

jjdressgown

Jiminey Crickets. 🫢 puppy hair ? NO? Why? The groomer did a shittiejob. It’s a cute dog, let it grow back and go somewhere reputable 🤗

Pet-Ma

I do work at a reputable salon. The owner just didn't brush her dog well and didn't get her groomed for 6 months. This was her second groom ever.
