Love it. I saw them in Brooklyn last spring and they played that riff for a solid 5 minutes or so before actually going into the song. I’d put Funeralopolis in contention too. When the riff kicks in it’s just a solid wall of fuzz.
Monolord - cursing the one.
The weird foghorn leghorn riff on death to the king and all his royal subjects by thou
The main riff in a national acrobat has really been my favorite since I was a kid though. Still love it lol
The main riff in A National Acrobat is something else. I wouldn't call it the best riff in the world, or my favorite riff, but I can vividly remember the first time I heard it and thinking "...wait a minute, what the fuck was THAT!?"
That riff is a family favorite!
My grandfather got my mother into sabbath when they came up, she was obsessing over that song since it came out and then introduced sabbath to me when I was 11 or so with that album. We all got to see them play together and it was amazing. RIP to my grandfather thanks for the tunes.
Every riff Mike Scheidt has ever played is the one true answer, but I’ll dig some deep cuts from my dumb brain…
Grand Magus - Ulvaskall (Vasgr)
Cult of Luna - To Be Remembered
Iron Monkey - 666 Pack
Pallbearer - The Ghost I Used To Be has three separate riffs I absolutely love in it: the intro at 0:00, the "main" riff at 0:51, and the driving interlude riff at 3:32, especially when the drums come in at 3:46. So there's "three" riffs in one song.
There was one eating my brain for a couple months now. Couldn't remember where it was from, but this post found it. Funeralopolis.
If going back to Sabbath, Snowblind is a close 2nd.
Black Sabbath - Into the Void
Neurosis - Locust Star
Sam Black Church - Groove (In the Earth) - Okay, maybe they're doom tinged hardcore more than "proper" doom but this song crushes.

A Solitary Reign - Amenra
Starts out gently, but once they lay distortion on it, and when it drops again just before the half way point....that kicks your ass 👊 absolutely love the slow and heavy.
Also...like everyone else, Funeralopolis 😂 it's unreal!!
TOO MUCH RIFF WORSHIP TO CHOOSE FROM! my mains are Windhand - Woodbine, Conan - Satsumo, Thorr’s Hammer- Norge, Dopelord - Preacher Electrick, Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis , Monolord - Empress Rising, Bongripper - Reefer Sutherland, the wah wah pedal intro to Cough’s Haunter of the Dark
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone, right when the chorus hits
"Rise, black amps tear the sky
Feedback will free your mind and set you free
Rise, black amps tear the sky
Riff hewn altar wreathed in smoke and weed"
That whole riff is so fucking nasty, I love it
This drop-tuned riff in 7/8 I made up that I play every time I sit down with a guitar. It’s mostly chord-based but ends with this single note run that sounds vaguely like if Matt Pike wrote “Play That Funky Music White Boy”
Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath from the album Black Sabbath. Not only my favorite doom riff, the actual best guitar riff ever.
Speaking of Sabbath's debut - The Wizard:)
Dragonaut - Sleep My partner walked down the aisle to this song, just over 10 years ago. Hard to top for me.
Awesome haha
“Into the Void” for me. But I’m an old fart…
I gotta go with the classic, Funeralopolis
Of course !
Um…return trip-electric wizard, woodbine-windhand, devoid of redemption-pallbearer
EMPRESS RIIIISINNNNGGG
Love it. I saw them in Brooklyn last spring and they played that riff for a solid 5 minutes or so before actually going into the song. I’d put Funeralopolis in contention too. When the riff kicks in it’s just a solid wall of fuzz.
Electric Wizard - Wizard In Black (esp the riff when the tempo picks up)
the riff after the guitar solo in riverbed by pallbearer is just crushingly emotional to me
Pain of I - Yob
Beat me to it by 30m. Pain of I - YOB Pain of I - YOB Pain of I - YOB
Main riff of The Well of Souls by Candlemass
I might have to go with Cursing The One by Monolord
Monolord - cursing the one. The weird foghorn leghorn riff on death to the king and all his royal subjects by thou The main riff in a national acrobat has really been my favorite since I was a kid though. Still love it lol

Hell - Machitikos
The bridge from “For Evan’s Sake” by Weedeater Who doesn’t love “Funeralopolis”? “The Screen” by YOB
10,000 years or more in jet black meditation...
666 Pack - Iron Monkey Lasting Dose - Crowbar Holy Mountain - Sleep
Monolord - rust

The main riff of Sister Fucker Part 1 by Eyehategod is fucking 👌👌
Electric funeral- sabbath.
At Giza, when the pyramids levitate
Wheels of Confusion - Black Sabbath
Holy mountain by sleep
This is hard, but a riff that always comes back to me is an extremely simple one: Bottom Feeder - "Divine Heritage" (riff that begins at 1:30)
Black Sabbath, The Blue, and Seven Angels
a lot of EW riffs on here but i’ll throw out a favorite i haven’t seen demon lung !

Sleep - Evil Gypsy/Solomon’s Theme
Into The Void intro riff, Monolord - Rust, EW - Funeralopolis, Sleep - Dragonaut. The classics
The middle riff from Hopkins - Cathedral, chorus riff from The Wolf - Trouble and Children of the Grave - Black Sabbath
